2. TARGET AUDIENCE
• My media product is a mainstream urban magazine targeted at young adults
around the ages of 16-24 years old, both females and males are part of my target
audience there is no gender bias. I have also targeted my media product more
towards working/middle class as my magazine is mainstream and urban and these
are the classes associated with that style of music stereotypically. I chose this
demographic of people as my target audience for convenience also because I know
I would have struggled getting an older model that older people could associate
with.
4. USE OF EDITING TO APPEAL TO MY
TARGET AUDIENCE
• I enlarged images to draw attention to the models so that they can easily associate
themselves with them. I didn't edit photos too much in the sense of changing
contrasts and saturations I only edited them a little bit to make the image pop
because I wanted the photo to feel life-like and raw so that the audience can really
identify with the model. In both my front cover and my double page I edited the
colouring to make her clothing stand out.
5. LANGUAGE
• I used language to
appeal to my audience I
did this by using phrases
that people that fall into
my target audience can
associate themselves
with like “off the rails”
this is a youthful term
that young people can
associate it
6. LAYOUT
• My layout was a simple design making easy to navigate through, this should appeal
to my audience because the age range (16-24) is that associated with teenagers and
they are stereotypically lazy, this therefore fulfills the individuals wants and needs.
My double page spread is a fairly normal layout with pull quotes that do however
overlap columns and are different sizes
7. MISE EN SCNE
• The model in my pictures is wearing a pair of ‘ray ban’ sunglasses that is a very well
known popular brand amongst young adults and teenagers and a brand they can
associate themselves with. My model is also wearing an Adidas t shirt, something
perhaps not associated with females however it will appeal to the male audience but
this is to show that teens don’t follow hegemonic norms, Adidas is also a very urban
brand that many people in my target audience would wear. The shirt colour also fits
in with the house colours red and white. In one of the photos on the contents there
is also graffiti on the wall behind him which is associated with being an urban art
and part of the urban culture.
8. IMAGE
• The images I’ve used are very clear photos with positive expressions which are
aimed to draw the reader to the magazine, there is not very much direct mode of
address but that sort of drawers the reader in and on the front cover the model is
looking at the camera however the glasses are covering her eyes adding a bit of
mystery to the image. This is quite abnormal but it reinforces the point that teens
are rebellious and do not follow hegemonic norms.
