Assure Method Solving Systems by Elimination
I. Analyze learners: My class consists of 25 9th
graders - 11 girls and14 boys. Of the students,
12 are white, 8 are African American, and 5 are Latin American. Additionally, 3 students
have been diagnosed with ADHD. The majority of my students have visual and auditory
learning styles. This will require instruction that incorporates plenty of verbal instruction,
auditory resources, opportunities for students to visualize, and visual aids.
II. State objectives: Students will solve systems of equations by elimination by describing the
process in a blog with 85 percent accuracy by the end of the unit.
III. Select methods, media, and materials: To incorporate different learning styles I will use the
following methods, media, and materials:
 Glogster: Students will visit the Glog “Solving Systems of Equations by Elimination” and
explore its features.
 Blog: students will demonstrate their comprehension by posting to the class blog.
 QR codes: Students will have access to QR codes that provide resources where they can
find extra practice problems or video instruction.
IV. Utilize media and materials: I will preview the Glog used in class and ensure that all of its
links function properly. All technology will be tested before class to make sure it works
properly (this includes the Smartboard and computers). I will post on the class blog the
assignment to which students will respond.
V. Require learner participation: As an introduction, I will review the two ways we have
learned to solve systems of equations: graphing and substitution. I will provide the class
with the web address to the Glog “Solving Systems of Equations by Elimination.” The
students will follow the links in the Glog and practice problems using the resources from the
Glog. Finally, students will provide their discussion of how to solve systems of equations by
elimination in a comment on the class blog and include an example problem with its
solution.
VI. Evaluate and revise: To evaluate my students I will ask them questions after they have
watched the video on the Glog. I will also check for achievement by walking around the
room while the students are practicing solving by elimination to see if they understand or
need further clarification. Lastly, I will have students post a description of how to solve
systems by elimination in the class blog to see if they understand the process.

  • 1. Assure Method Solving Systems by Elimination I. Analyze learners: My class consists of 25 9th graders - 11 girls and14 boys. Of the students, 12 are white, 8 are African American, and 5 are Latin American. Additionally, 3 students have been diagnosed with ADHD. The majority of my students have visual and auditory learning styles. This will require instruction that incorporates plenty of verbal instruction, auditory resources, opportunities for students to visualize, and visual aids. II. State objectives: Students will solve systems of equations by elimination by describing the process in a blog with 85 percent accuracy by the end of the unit. III. Select methods, media, and materials: To incorporate different learning styles I will use the following methods, media, and materials:  Glogster: Students will visit the Glog “Solving Systems of Equations by Elimination” and explore its features.  Blog: students will demonstrate their comprehension by posting to the class blog.  QR codes: Students will have access to QR codes that provide resources where they can find extra practice problems or video instruction. IV. Utilize media and materials: I will preview the Glog used in class and ensure that all of its links function properly. All technology will be tested before class to make sure it works properly (this includes the Smartboard and computers). I will post on the class blog the assignment to which students will respond. V. Require learner participation: As an introduction, I will review the two ways we have learned to solve systems of equations: graphing and substitution. I will provide the class with the web address to the Glog “Solving Systems of Equations by Elimination.” The students will follow the links in the Glog and practice problems using the resources from the Glog. Finally, students will provide their discussion of how to solve systems of equations by
  • 2. elimination in a comment on the class blog and include an example problem with its solution. VI. Evaluate and revise: To evaluate my students I will ask them questions after they have watched the video on the Glog. I will also check for achievement by walking around the room while the students are practicing solving by elimination to see if they understand or need further clarification. Lastly, I will have students post a description of how to solve systems by elimination in the class blog to see if they understand the process.
