- As teachers we want students to learn. We also must measure how much students have learned, and many of us are accountable to state standards or standardized tests that claim to do just that.
- The online classroom is a very different place from a traditional classroom, especially in the K-12 environment. We will maintain physical control over a traditional classroom, while also cultivating the social environment of the online classroom. Since students and instructors interact differently in the online classroom, it makes sense that traditional assessment tools would be different as well. This PowerPoint is to inform you of the difference so this transition will run smoothly.
- The first level: In the first level, the online assessments are offline paper tests. This is the way the some of our tests will be taken. This new method will save time, and give an accurate view of student needs. The second level: C an not only perform the role of testing, but also the role of teaching. This means, we will use assessment tools, such as Quiz Creators, to insert instructional contents (e.g. a story with pictures, a funny joke or simply a video) before giving the test. This allows you the student to get familiar with the content first, and then take the test. In this level, students may not feel so bored and you have the assessment tools as your teaching assistant. The third level: Assessment tools for teachers are as sharing tools - This level will allow me to make you more active in your learning. For example: you will get a chance to make and create your own test and assignments. This gives us both an idea of what you have succeeded in. This is a good way for you to accomplish much more in your subject area. This will allow you to learn much faster.

- By using online assessment tools it allows me to consider the learning styles of students. I can measure what you are learning and communicate with you in ways that you understand. This will make the learning and testing process much more productive and enjoyable for you.
- A picture is worth a 1,000 words, right? Put the power of pictures to work in your online class and include them in your online assessment. For example, any diagrams that I will use in the classroom setting I will also apply them here. I can and may remove numbers, words, or captions, upload it to your testing program and ask questions about it. This strategy automatically puts the question you are asking in context for the student and allows him/her the comfort of seeing a familiar object.
- A similar type of online assessment can be done with videos. Science demonstrations are common in my science and math classrooms. When it comes to test time play a video of a demonstration (or an alternative from YouTube) and follow it with multiple choice or true/false questions. This type of assessment helps visual and aural learners connect with the material. I can and will easily incorporate video assessment into almost any subject matter if you play a clip from a film and then ask follow-up questions. You will have a variety of ways to network with one another, so you will have to make use of cell phones, chat rooms, instant messaging, email, and discussion boards and turn them into online assessments. Provide structure to your discussions, answers and findings so that I know you understand and completed the necessary homework for that day. I may also require these posts to be replies to other students, commentary on reading or video, or general thoughts about a subject.
- Online Discussions and group projects are another way this online classroom setting will be used. One benefit of the online world is that I can keep tabs on how much work each student is doing.
- Drag and drop games, race against the clock games, and others are engaging. Students enjoy them and they are less intimidating than regular tests. I will incorporate and use games in the online portion of this class as an informal mode of online assessment. One site that I will be using is, quia .com, which is a great resource for designing games and learning activities.
