Assure Method Factoring Polynomials
I. Analyze learners: My class consists of 25 9th
graders - 11 girls and14 boys. Of the students,
12 are white, 8 are African American, and 5 are Latin American. Additionally, 3 students
have been diagnosed with ADHD. The majority of my students have visual and auditory
learning styles. This will require instruction that incorporates plenty of verbal instruction,
auditory resources, opportunities for students to visualize, and visual aids.
II. State objectives: My students will factor and solve for the variable x by practicing problems
given in class and comparing their answers to the graphed representation of the function on
a calculator with 85 percent accuracy.
III. Select methods, media, and materials: To incorporate different learning styles I will use the
following methods, media, and materials:
 Voki: The students will view the Voki as an introduction activity.
 Podcast: Students will listen to the podcast “Factoring polynomials” to gain
understanding of the relevance of factoring.
 Smartboard: I will lecture and use the Smartboard to write notes that will be posted on
the class Facebook page as a resource for students.
 Factoring Bingo: Students will play Bingo by having to factor the equations to know what
square to cover.
 Photoshop: Students will view a picture of the launch of a rocket and a graphed
equation of its trajectory. This will show how factoring can be used to determine where
the rocket was at a height of zero feet.
 QR codes: Students will have access to QR codes that provide resources where they can
find extra practice problems or video instruction.
IV. Utilize media and materials: I will preview the voki and podcast used in class. All
technology will be tested before class to make sure it works properly (this includes the
Smartboard and computers). Also, I will prepare the materials needed for Bingo such as the
cards and chips to cover the squares.
V. Require learner participation: As an introduction, I will play the Voki, and students will then
listen to the “Factoring polynomials” podcast. I will then ask the class what they already
knew or have just learned about factoring polynomials. I will then lecture and take
questions as needed to ensure student understanding. When I do examples, I will ask
students up to the board to work through the problem themselves and will give them
guidance when necessary. Students will then be released to practice a few problems on
Khan Academy or Purple Math. To finish class, students will be given Factoring Bingo cards.
They will be given about 15 minutes to work on factoring the equations before we begin
playing. As I call out the factored answers, students will use a Bingo chip to cover the
equation made up of the factors.
VI. Evaluate and revise: To evaluate my students I will observe them as they practice examples
at the board, on the computers, and as they work to factor their Bingo cards. I will assess
their knowledge base and comprehension of material by the questions and comments
presented in discussion and will gear my teaching and responses accordingly. I will also
check for achievement by walking around the room during class to ask the students
questions about the equations they are solving to see if they understand how they are
arriving at the solutions.

Select methods, media, and materials: To incorporate different learning styles I will use the following methods, media, and materials:  Voki: The students will view the Voki as an introduction activity.  Podcast: Students will listen to the podcast “Factoring polynomials” to gain understanding of the relevance of factoring.  Smartboard: I will lecture and use the Smartboard to write notes that will be posted on the class Facebook page as a resource for students.  Factoring Bingo: Students will play Bingo by having to factor the equations to know what square to cover.  Photoshop: Students will view a picture of the launch of a rocket and a graphed equation of its trajectory. This will show how factoring can be used to determine where the rocket was at a height of zero feet.  QR codes: Students will have access to QR codes that provide resources where they can find extra practice problems or video instruction.
  • 2. IV. Utilize media and materials: I will preview the voki and podcast used in class. All technology will be tested before class to make sure it works properly (this includes the Smartboard and computers). Also, I will prepare the materials needed for Bingo such as the cards and chips to cover the squares. V. Require learner participation: As an introduction, I will play the Voki, and students will then listen to the “Factoring polynomials” podcast. I will then ask the class what they already knew or have just learned about factoring polynomials. I will then lecture and take questions as needed to ensure student understanding. When I do examples, I will ask students up to the board to work through the problem themselves and will give them guidance when necessary. Students will then be released to practice a few problems on Khan Academy or Purple Math. To finish class, students will be given Factoring Bingo cards. They will be given about 15 minutes to work on factoring the equations before we begin playing. As I call out the factored answers, students will use a Bingo chip to cover the equation made up of the factors. VI. Evaluate and revise: To evaluate my students I will observe them as they practice examples at the board, on the computers, and as they work to factor their Bingo cards. I will assess their knowledge base and comprehension of material by the questions and comments presented in discussion and will gear my teaching and responses accordingly. I will also check for achievement by walking around the room during class to ask the students questions about the equations they are solving to see if they understand how they are arriving at the solutions.
