2. Purpose
● The purpose of my magazine is to promote new films from British independent companies and showcase
the actors that appear in them.
● This will be done by having interviews with the stars of these films, and the magazine will also contain
other articles, e.g. their experiences during production and fact files.
● The reason I have chosen this purpose is because this will attract readers to check the films out as a result
of reading about the actors.
● This will also entertain readers as they will enjoy reading about them, which will mean they will want to
buy/subscribe to my magazine.
● Another purpose of my magazine is to inform readers about the actors, which will be achieved by these
articles. This is so when they see the actors in the films they will know more about their actual lives
offscreen, therefore being more invested in the characters they play and their performance in the film.
3. Form
● The magazine will have 160 pages, a large number of which will be dedicated exclusively to adverts in order to
generate income.
● In the printed edition, the cover will be glossy paper to make it feel more professional and "luxurious", while the
inside pages will be matte paper, which has less glare than glossy paper, because the majority of those pages will
contain lots of text.
● The magazine website will have videos of the interviews, plus previews of what the magazine looks like from the
inside to attract readers' interest. There will be an electronic version of the magazine on the website as well.
● A single issue of the magazine, whether in print or on the web, will cost £5. Readers will be able to get 3 issues
free before having the option to subscribe for a year, which will cost £45.
● They can either subscribe to the print/web version of the magazine only or have the option to view both versions.
● If readers choose to subscribe to both versions, they will pay £60 instead of £90, saving £30.
● A new issue of the magazine will come out every month.
4. Content
● My magazine will feature actors from a new independent film made by a British production company. Each month
there will be a different film featured.
● There will be EXCLUSIVE interviews with the stars of these films where they will reveal never-before-heard secrets,
such as how they felt when they first heard they were going to be in the film, and their experiences during
production.
● There will also be fact files about the actors, which will have little-known facts about each of them.
● The sample issue will promote the current streaming service NOW TV, on which the film will be released, and a
new streaming service called Halo.
● My USP will be that for every fifth issue there will be a FREE ticket to a local cinema of the readers' choice, which
they will have to pick when they subscribe.
5. Target audience
● The primary target audience will be mostly white British and American young people of all genders aged
15-25, who are in social grades BC1C2.
● I have chosen this audience because I think they will enjoy reading about celebrities, especially about
actors, and also because people of these social grades would be most likely to read this type of magazine.
● The actors who will be in my magazine in particular will appeal to this audience because there will be
young actors making their screen debut.
● The reason I have chosen white British and American people as my primary target audience is because the
majority of actors in Hollywood and Britain are white; however, my secondary target audience will be
black people because a number of the films featured in the magazine will have black actors.
6. Resources and personnel
● Resources: I will need a camera to produce my magazine. This is because I will be using it to take photos of
the actors who will be on the cover of the magazine and the feature article. I will also need a tripod to put
the camera onto and a computer to edit the photos.
● Personnel: I will need a photographer to take photos of the actors in the cover and the feature article. I
will also need journalists to write the articles and an editor to oversee them.
7. Distribution
● I am going to distribute my magazine at a London film festival, where it will be given out to people for free.
● I have chosen this method because it will spread the word about my magazine, letting people know about
it, especially from North London.
● I will also distribute the magazine at local cinemas such as Vue to attract people who prefer going to
cinemas instead of film festivals.
8. Marketing
● I will market my magazine in a few different ways.
● I will use social media apps, specifically TikTok and Snapchat as my target audience is younger people.
● Another thing I will do is make a YouTube channel and do a promotional video advertising my magazine. These
would be the best marketing methods for me because they are free and easy.
● In the future, if my magazine is successful, I can use more expensive methods such as placing adverts in other
magazines.
9. Sample materials - fonts
After looking at the fonts I was thinking of choosing,
I decided to pick the font Mind The Caps for the
magazine title because it is memorable, easy to see
and jumps out from the page.
12. Article ideas
● The feature article will be an interview with the two main actors.
● They will be asked questions such as "How did you feel when you first found out you would be in the
film?"
● They will also reveal behind-the-scenes secrets such as the director using remote controls to make the
robot props chase them!
● There will also be other articles, such as fact files about the actors, which will have little-known facts about
each of them.
15. Competitors
● Empire: Covers film news, previews and reviews. Reviews both mainstream and art films (independent
films aimed at a niche market). My magazine will be different from Empire because it focuses on the
actors rather than the film itself, and people might want to know more about the actors in a film.
● Starburst: The world's longest running magazine of cult entertainment. Contains movie news and reviews.
My magazine will be different from Starburst because it doesn't focus so much on news and reviews as on
the actors in the new films, for example their experiences during production.
● MovieMaker magazine: The nation's leading resource on the art and business of making movies and the
world's most widely read independent film magazine. The world's best-selling independent movie
magazine. Empowering moviemakers, engaging film lovers, informing and entertaining both - online and in
print. My magazine will be different because every month there will be a new independent film featured
and the main actors will be interviewed about their experiences.
