This document outlines a pitch for a new film magazine called "Lust Magazine" that focuses on romantic comedy films. The key points are:
- The magazine will entertain readers and promote independent filmmakers. It will be distributed physically and digitally.
- The genre is romantic comedy films to appeal to its target audience of teenage girls and women.
- Content will include interviews, reviews, and articles about indie and mainstream romantic comedies. Visuals like photos and movie stills will also be featured.
- The target audience is primarily women ages teen to adult living in North London. The budget, personnel, and marketing strategies are outlined to distribute the magazine every two months.
2. The Purpose
Of the
magazine
■ The purpose of the magazine Is to entertain and
entice the customers- I hope that the magazine
will allow the readers to escape from reality and
fully immerse themselves in the magazine.
■ As said above, one of the purposes of the
magazine will be for entertainment- this will be
achieved through interesting articles and
interviews with directors and actors which acts as
the USP of the magazine.
■ One of the main purposes of the magazine is to
promote independent actors and films/film
creators to hopefully elevate their work and films.
3. Form And
Genre
■ The genre of the magazine is a film magazine,
specifically romantic comedy based- I have chosen
this genre to appeal to mt primary audience being
teenage girls and women as I am aware of the
popularity within this target audience.
■ The form of the magazine will be in both a digital and
physical versions with 30-50 pages.
■ The physical copies can be bought in supermarkets
and newsagents at the price of £2.50 to make it
attainable for all types of incomes and readers, the
digital versions will have a choice of two
subscriptions: 6-month plan being £35 for the full
plan or a 12 month plan being £50 for the annual
price- I have made this cheaper than buying each
digital edition every time it’s out(£8.50) therefore
gain more following.
■ Offer a 10% student discount
■ Direct debit 6months- £5.80 PM, 12months- £4.20
PM
4. Content…
■ The magazine will cover a wide range of content, there will be a featured
rom-com film on the front cover consisting of vibrant and enticing colours
to mirror the film, indie or blockbuster, which will be the primary focus
throughout the magazine.
■ There will be articles and interviews with the actors and directors from
rom-com films including the featured film, both primary and secondary
resources, this will be followed by columns to explain storylines of the rom-
com film similar to a book blurb to provide an overview- the movies
promoted will be a mix between indie and venue films to support small
creators as well as established creators and actors.
■ There will also be reviews of the films to provide readers with different
perspectives and opinions.
■ There will be a double page spread of with either an indie or blockbuster
rom-com film to catch the eye of the readers- visual representation is
more engaging for the younger target audience with articles and reviews
about the film attached.
■ Colours to match the romcom genre: pink, white, red- immerse the reader
■ There will also be promotions of new indie releases to support
independent film creators and up and coming actors- also references to
streaming platforms- popular(Netflix) and new (FilmRus)
5. Target
Audience
■ My target audience will mainly women from the
teenage years onwards as i have realised more
women than men are interested in the rom-com
genre, this will be my primary audience.
■ My secondary audience will be men and everyone
else interested as i would like to gain as many
audience members i can and not limit my options.
■ There will also be a geo-demographic of North
London as there are many films out in this area in
cinemas and production houses therefore giving
me content for the magazine for my audience's
entertainments.
■ There is also no set ethnicity, race or class , the
magazine is targeted and welcome to everyone.
■
6. Resources
And
Personnel
■ For the resources I will need a digital camera for
photos of of locations such as popular cinema venues
and productions houses that promote rom-com films-
also to photograph actors- mainly indie as they would
be more attainable and lower budget for front covers
or features in the magazine.
■ I will also require camera equipment such as a tripod
and a variety of camera lenses to obtain a range of
shot types, possible props for visual additions and
sufficient lighting to achieve the best quality photos.
■ For personnel I will need a photographer to achieve
professional photos, an editor to edit pictures and
videos/adobe license as an alternative if an editor is
too expensive.
■ A researcher to identify any legal or ethical issues,
web designer to create the online magazine website,
journalists for the articles and interviews and models
such as actors for the content of the magazine.
7. Budget…
■ Camera- £200-300
■ Camera tripod- £20-40
■ Camera lenses- £1000
■ Lighting equipment- £80
■ props- £20
■ photographer- £200 for 2 hours
■ video editor for online videos- £90 for 3 hours
■ adobe licence- £238.42 yearly
■ models- £80 for 2 hours
■ researcher- £35.90 for 2 hours
■ web designer- £200 for a day
■ journalist- £45 for 3 hours
■ magazine printing- £50 per magazine: 6 editions in a
year- £300 for printing
Total budget: £3,700 per edition
8. Distribution
And
Marketing
■ I will advertise via social media due to the influx in
users- Facebook groups, Tik Tok (all ages), Instagram
advertisements- good for the digital editions as a link
can be attached to obtain readers.
■ The magazine will also appear as pop-up ads on
streaming platforms such as Amazon Prime and
Netflix as well as FilmRus, a new streaming platform
to catch the eye.
■ Also advertised at film festivals across London to
reach the target audience and film enthusiasts
■ The magazine will be distributed across North Lodon
for the first two editions then the rest of London every
two months – this is so the content does not become
out of date and maintains its relevance within the
rom-com scene both indie and blockbuster
■ Distributing every two months will also allow the
readers to become familiar with the magazine this
will help gain recurring readers and subscribers.
9. Article Ideas ■ Interviews with actors and directors to allow
readers to receive an insight into the film world
and themselves personal- gives the readers a
sense of connection.
■ There will be primary and secondary sources for
the interviews – the primary source ones will most
likely be with indie actors or directors as they are
more attainable and helps promote them.
Whereas the secondary interviews will be with
established directors and actors with speech
bubbles from the conversations paired with a QR
code to view the video online
■ There will be reviews incorporated to expand the
readers knowledge on different opinions and
perspectives of the rom-com films or featured film
for that edition- followed by articles and quotes
from film critics as secondary resources to grasp a
professional and passionate perspective.
10. Mood Board
And Font
Styles
This mood boards
conveys a visual
concept of the
aesthetic and vibe of
the magazine and the
possible films that
could be incorporated.
I have chosen
these fonts for
the magazine
as I would like
the entire
magazine to
have a classy
appeal and I
believe these
font emulate
that idea.
11. Possible
Competition
These magazines are
possible competitions
due to the mere fact
they are also film
magazines however
they are not strictly
one genre which is
was sets my
magazine from the
rest and makes it
different acting as a
USP.
