2. Purpose and Genre
• My magazine will focus on a new Sci-Fi Action independent movie.
• I have chosen to make my magazine genre based as I feel Sci-Fi Action provides something
for everyone.
• It provides entertainment and escapism which allows the audience to immerse themselves
into that world.
• Both genders are positively represented which attracts a mass audience.
3. Form
• Hard Copy
• My hard copy will be around 94 pages within
the magazine and including the covers will be
a total of 98 pages.
• The paper will be uncoated in order to be
environmentally friendly as it can be recycled
which results in the copy also being matte.
• Advertisements will consist of collaborations
with Barnet Everyman and Sci-Fi London film
festival.
• Monthly subscription for the latest magazines
will cost £3.50 and annually £38.00 which
means subscribers would be saving £4.00 a
year
• Online copy
• On the company website after a new
magazine release the online copy will include
an interview with one of the main actors.
• This will be via an online video which will
discuss working on the project and additional
information such as upcoming projects.
• There will be a subscription available in
which subscribers will be able to watch
exclusive behind the scenes footage only
available to them.
• Monthly subscription will cost £2.50 and
annually will be around £27.00 which will
result in subscribers saving £3.00 a year
4. Content
• The double page spread will include an interview with the main actress in which the audience will
build a relationship with the person outside of them portraying a character in a fantasy world.
• It will also include additional information such as how scenes are created.
• It will be promoting Barnet Everyman in terms of what it offers and why Sci-Fi London film festival
is a good platform for promotion for upcoming Sci-Fi films.
• My own streaming service will be called NL Entertainment and the film can also be accessed on
Netflix as it’s a well- known platform which will provide the film with mass exposure.
5. USP’s
• One of my USP’s is the cheaper pricing than most magazines which makes it affordable to a mass
audience and would allow more people to purchase it.
• Another USP is my partnership with Sci-Fi London film festival - they are the only Science Fiction
film festival in North London which allows a good platform for promotion and makes it accessible to
a mass and local audience.
• Another is special offers- if you purchase a ticket online through a discount code in the magazine,
you can bring someone such as a friend to watch the film and you can get discounts on food and
drinks.
6. Target Audience
• I’m aiming for the primary target audience to be 15-25 white males and have a C1-A social class as
I feel this genre would appeal to them most as they have always been widely represented.
• I feel when they see the magazine they would resonate and relate as they have always been
dominant within this genre.
• Other social groups are also represented which is why I aim for the secondary target audience to
be females aged 16-25 and have a C1-A social class as they are also represented either as the
main character or alongside them.
• This would empower young females and make them feel appreciated within this genre.
7. Resources and Personnel
• Resources:
• - Professional camera in order to provide the
best quality photos for the magazine.
• A computer that has access to photoshop in
order to edit the photos.
• - Lighting that improves quality and helps
convey the environment that the movie is
based around such as a dark background and
light only on the actor.
• Personnel:
• Main actress when shooting for the front cover.
• Photographer to take the pictures.
- Costume designer to design an outfit that the
actress will be wearing in the movie, therefore
one that reflects the Sci-Fi Action genre.
- Makeup artist to do the actresses make up for
the front cover.
8. Distribution and Marketing
• Distribution
• I would sell the magazine at Barnet Everyman and the Odeon and make it available to
customers as these venues show mainstream films and independent movies which gives the
magazine exposure.
• Marketing
• The magazine will be advertised on Barnet Everyman’s Instagram page.
• It will also be advertised on a short Snapchat video as you have to wait 5 seconds before you
can click off so people will be forced to engage.
• These methods are effective as I’m targeting the younger generation and this is their main
form of communication and entertainment in contrast to a something like a newspaper.
9. Competition
- Empire is direct competition as they promote mass movies within the Sci-Fi Action genre which
becomes a threat to independent movies as they are not well-known like Empire which makes it
difficult for them to gain recognition.
12. Article Ideas
• An interview with the main actress
• Give some insight into how scenes are created/behind the scenes
• Promoting Barnet Everyman and Sci-Fi London film festival
13. • I will be using black to connote the the mystery of Sci-Fi
• I will be using a bright red to connote the danger and risks of Action
• I will be using neon green as it is eye catching to the audience
