1. What kind of media
institution might distribute
your media product and
why?
Dilara, Julious,Tana,Tate.
2. What is an institution?
A institution company is one that distributes a
media product for audience use.
Where would institutions distrubute a film
product?
A film would be delivered to the cinema either
nationally or internationally. Once its been at the
cinema for a while, it would be then be sold in
shops as a DVD or it would be put up onto online
film watching sites such as Netflix.
What else does a institution do?
Before the film is made, directors and/or
producers can go to an institution to deliver their
pitch for the film. Also they ask if the institution
would fund the project.
3. Institutions we are likely to choose..
• The UK Film Council
• Vertigo Films
• Film four
4. Different types of institutions invest on and make different types of films. For
example 20th Century Fox produce comedy/fantasy and family films, whereas
institutions such as Warner Bros produce a variety of different films such as;
comedy, romance, fantasy, Adventure, action and Horror films. Pixar usually
create Disney films for young children; such as UP, The Toy Story and so on.
5. It is effective to research into institutions before creating your film opening
sequence because you get to explore the different techniques that the films
funded by different institutions use to attract audiences and you can adapt to
them/they help you to attract similar audience.. Moreover, film institutions
have a habit of only producing certain films, this means they have a particular
group of audience that they want to attract every time, Like Pixar,
their audience are kids so they would want to realise films during certain times
of the year such as School holidays for example Christmas
Holiday/Easter/Half Terms etc.
6. The Institution I would use to release my thriller opening sequence would be Vertigo
Films. Vertigo Films was founded in 2002 to create and distribute
commercially driver independent cinema. Vertigo Films produces Thriller,
Romance, Mystery, physiological thriller, and drama films. Vertigo Films are interesting as they
present a vision of England. Vertigo has used innovative new technology, meticulous attention
to budget and great care of its audience to produce and distribute thirty films with commercial
success. They are becoming more successful both critically and economically. They realised
films such as Street Dance which was a good hit, they produced Horrid Henry, Walking on
Sunshine etc. I believe this institution would destitute our film as their a small company
without huge investors and they can afford, or perhaps have to take risks with
filmmaking Funding: they are innovative and raising funding through public involvement.
7. My thriller opening would work well being distributed with Vertigo films. As
Vertigo films produced a thriller film; Pusher which had good reviews.
8. Young audiences like my target audience (16-30) may not find the film
production of different institutions attractive, for example Pixar produces films
for younger children, and it would not be an institution that I would use
because of their target audience range. Their target audience ranged from the
ages of 1-10, as they use specific language for this age group
which certificates are usually either 'U' or 'PG'.
