1. The Dollhouse proposal
Genre; Horror
Theme; possessed and trapped souls in dolls. This theme is also depicted in other
successful films such as chucky.
Narrative; A family move into the neighbourhood and upon exploring it, the girls discover a
mysterious house. The couple who live in the house are unable to have children of their own
so they find children and put them into dolls to keep as their own. The girls are in danger as
they are sired to the house and drawn to enter. They must find a way to escape.
Character profile:
Ella is a 10 year old girl, she is a social butterfly, and a very independent little girl. She lives
in her own little world that she has made in her head, she is very creative. The name of Ella
means an Abbreviation of Eleanor and Ellen which means a beautiful fairy, this makes her
seem like the innocent angel of the film. Ella foreshadows to the audience that her
innocence her ‘angelic’ name/figure is going to be manipulated.
Grace is Ella’s sister, she is 11 years old. Grace’s character is the opposite of Ella’s. Grace
is very mature and would not be described as outgoing or adventurous. She likes to be the
sensible one out of the two siblings. Grace means smoothness and elegance of movement
and this goes with Grace’s character and foreshadows to the audience that she will also be a
victim of bad events, however she will be the hero.
film classification:
Our film would be rated 12A. This is
because it would have scenes that will
scare those below the age of 12, it would
contain imitable behaviour that younger
children might be influenced by, for
example a scene where the children
enters a stranger's house. Also there are
scenes that might be classified as
violent/dangerous, therefore our film classification is 12A according to BBFC film
classification guideline.
target audience:

2. We have chosen teenagers/young adults between the age 15-24 as our target
audience. We have chosen this age group as our target audience as the storyline
would be appealing to them.
During research we looked through reports of the British Film Institute, in order to
find out the percentage of males and females that enjoy watching horror films.
Looking at the statistics males aged 15-24 were into horror movies more than those
above their late 20s to 30s. Also, this report also shows that girls aged 15-25 were
also into the horror genre more than the older female age groups. Based on this
research we were confident in our genre choice.
Audience theories: There are theories that suggest audiences enjoy horror films.
One theory suggests that audiences enjoy putting themselves in the place of the
victims or the villains in the film. This means they imagine putting themselves in the
shoes of the killer for example, which gives them the experience and imagination of
doing something they would not do. Horror films give the viewer the feeling of
involvement as they experience and go through everything that the villains and
heroes go through.
Another theory highlights the fact that the audience enjoy decoding the narrative,
and they also enjoy the sudden jump scares and the building up of scary scenes
which gives them pleasure.
