1. TASK 03
WHAT KIND OF MEDIA INSTITUTION MIGHT
DISTRIBUTE YOUR MEDIA PRODUCT AND
WHY?
2. WHAT IS
DISTRIBUTION?
Distribution of films is the process of making a movie available for viewing
for an audience which is usually done by a professional film distributor who
determines a marketing strategy to market the film. For example, how the
film would be distributed: cinema, television, DVD etc.
Some UK film distributors include: Dazzle and Shorts International
Internationally renowned film distributors include: Warner Bros, Sony
Pictures, Paramount Pictures and Universal Films.
3. DISTRIBUTION OF
‘SPLIT’
A distributor I think would be suitable for our film ‘Split’ is Buena Vista
International UK as it releases low budget titles and distributes in the UK.
Hammer Film Production may also be interested in the film as they specialise in
British horror films and are behind ‘The Woman In Black’.
The film may appeal to audiences outside the UK as it’s a horror film and they
attract people from all overt the globe despite the actors being English. However,
because it is a low/no budget film, it would be fairly difficult to get it distributed
through a distributor that is large enough to make it successful worldwide.
A good way to market the film would be through the possibility of having it shown
at a film festival such as The Edinburgh Film Festival which has a very large
international audience.
However, if I were to choose self distribution it could be possible to do it through
a company such as Quad Cinema which shows screenings, releases DVDs and
organises press releases. I could also release it online so that the audience is
unlimited.
