How effective is the combination of your main
product and ancillary text?
The dollhouse is a film about two young
girls who are drawn to a house in their new
neighbourhood. Unfortunately for them, the
owner of the house possesses children into
dolls and keeps them as her children.
The doll plays the antagonist character,
which is why it is featured on the poster for
the film.
Chucky and Annabelle have supported this
idea as they too have featured the dolls
which play the antagonist character in their
films on their posters.
The doll is dressed in pink
which suggest her innocence
however this picture is shot
from a slightly lower angle
which creates the assumption
that the doll has some power.
This poster seems to be looking
down on the audience from a
high pedestal. This creates a
relationship with the audience
which encourages them to
watch the film. It seems as if the
doll is staring at the audience,
persuading them to see the film
in cinema. This translates to the
film of The dollhouse as in the
film is that the dolls persuade
the girls to play with them.
The background has been darkened
and a spotlight placed on the doll. This
suggests the significance of the doll. It
also suggest that the film is a horror as
the doll is in a dark place, there is also
has a slight red tint over the doll which
could suggest that the doll plays the
antagonist.
The title is written in a chalk font as the
film has a theme of dolls and children.
Chalk has connotations to children
playing. It is written in red to indicate
that the film is a horror. A red title has
also been used in other films which
share the same genre of horror and
themes of dolls.

How effective is the combination of your main
product and ancillary text?
The magazine will feature
spreads on Chucky which
was an inspiration for The
Dollhouse. Chucky and
The Dollhouse share the
same theme of evil dolls.
The magazine would
feature articles on villians
which tells the audience
that this is a horror
magazine. This means this
magazine would be suitable
to present The Dollhouse.
Furthermore, the title of
the magazine is in bright
red which has connotations
to evil, blood and horror.
This links to the film as it is
in the horror genre.
There is text on the cover
which gives the reader a
sneak peak of what is
inside the the magazine.
They tell the audience that
The dollhouse is a horror
and share the same themes
as Chucky. This will
encourage the readers to
watch the film if they
enjoyed Chucky.
Magazines for horror films usually feature
the antagonist. For example films such as
maleficent, chucky, carrie and It.
Our poster features two dolls. This
challenges other magazine covers however it
fits our film trailer as there is two main
characters. The doll is the antagonist of the
film as once Ella gets possessed into the doll,
she terrorises her sister, Grace.
One doll is wearing a white bonnet and the
other is wearing a brown hat. This suggests
that something malicious will happen to one
of the dolls. In the trailer, only Ella gets
possessed.
The language used on the cover is informal.
This is suitable for the covr and the film as
the film is focused around children. It is
suitable for the magazine cover as informal
language is more engaging to our audience.
It will created a better relationship between
the magazine and reader.
