4. Mood
Board
My game is going to be set in a jungle so I
chose pictures of jungle scenes and different
plants to gain inspiration for my designs as I
feel I may struggle to draw a jungle scene. I
feel that it may be difficult to draw the plants
in pixels so I chose different leaf styles so
that I can try different images as templates.
I chose colours that were natural but also
bright and appealing.
5. Mood Board
My game’s concept is going to be a
monkey running through a jungle scene
collecting stars. I’ve collected pictures of
monkeys(left) and of some potential
animal and reptiles enemies(right) to
gain inspiration.
My game will be aimed primarily at
children so I’ve chosen cute fun images
as these would appeal the most to that
age range and would be age appropriate.
6. Mood Board Analysis
Is there any repetition in the images you have collected? Repeated
colours/images styles/fonts/tone/mood
• The images I’ve chosen are in the style of pixelated or cartoon designs. I feel that this style will help me
the most when it comes to drawing my designs. The images in this style are also more age appropriate for
my primary age range of children aged 5-14 years, as they are fun and happy, opposed to mean looking or
scary.
• I’ve purposefully chosen greens and browns as these are colours that are most associated with jungles.
These colours are also widely associated with snakes and monkeys which I’ve chosen as my enemies. I also
want to create some brightly coloured plants in between the trees to break up the natural colours, so that
there’s more variety. I feel it may look too plain if there are just green and browns in my background
design.
• When I create enemy monkeys I’ll make sure that they are a different colour to my main character;
probably darker colours to show they are the enemies, so that they are clearly definable as the enemy.
How will your mood board influence your final product?
• I feel that my mood board will really help me when it comes to drawing my designs as I can use the images
as templates for parts that are difficult to draw by hand. By placing the images in Photoshop it will help me
to see what images I can draw free hand and which ones I may need to use as a template to trace. It will
also help me visualise what kind of scene I want to draw.
• By placing the images in Photoshop, it will give me an idea of what size scale to draw my background and
characters, so that they are proportionate to each other.
• It will also help me with my colour scheme for my game, so that it is true to a jungle theme and so that I
keep it looking fun and bright and appealing to my target audience.
