2. Process
I used Piskel to practice different
character designs and experiment with
colour palettes. I looked at various
examples to help me think of ideas
and create outfts for them. This also
helps me to think of characters I can
include in the final product and give
me a better idea of what it will look
like. I love to mix colours and see what
works best for each character, along
with their costume. Although, working
with pixels doesn’t let me be too
detailed with the characters and I had
to practice and figure out the best way
I could draw them.
3. Process
These are more
experiments I tried with
different characters,
styles and colour
palettes.
I attempted making a character
that wasn't human, trying
softer colours instead of dark
colours so they appear more
friendly.
I tried to add shadows
and use the same
colour in lighter and
darker shades to make
the character stand
out and look more
detailed.
4. Process
I used piskel again to try and
practice drawing out a
pixel background. I looked at
several examples to help me
think of ideas and decide a
colour palette for it. I
enjoyed the process and
thought I should do a set of
3 or 4 colours with different
shades rather than one bold
colour. I went for a more
natural setting because it
was easier to make and
looked a lot better with
some of the colours I chose.

5. Process
I tried a small and simple
animation to get the hang of the
software and practice movement
for the character. I only used a very
simplistic design because I didn’t
want to spend more time on
drawing it out rather than the
actual animation. I used Piskel
again to animate this due to it
being easy to use and accessable
on different devices. I enjoyed
making this and trying out a short
walking cycle of the character
going uphill. This will help me with
the final product because I will be
able to refer to it if I need to.
6. Process
To help me decide on colours for each
character, I researched different characters
and colour palettes to help me create my
own. I love to mix and match things to see
what works best. Using the right set of
colours can really bring a character to life and
tell you a lot about them.
7. Reflection
• What elements of your experiments will you
include in your final product?
– Some of the characters’ designs I made could be used
in my game, along with a similar background like the
one I practiced with. The colour palettes I created can
be helpful If I design any more characters and need
inspiration, although the characters I experimented
with helped me to visualise how the end product
could turn out. Trying out different styles, colours,
animations and backgrounds really helped me to feel
more confident with my ideas and plan ahead. It’s also
extremely useful to look back on this if I need to.
