3. Research
• The strengths of my research is that I
researched in depth into each one of my
existing products and focused on what would
influence my Final Major Project. My research
helped my FMP by the way it influenced
everything I created.
• The weaknesses of my research was that I
didn’t research in detail what my target
audience was completely interested in . Next
time I won’t limit myself to only researching the
basic detail of my target audience.
4. Planning
• The strength of my planning would be that I put a lot of
information into my mind maps and explored the basics of
every idea I thought of, this enabled me to really think
about what I needed to do when creating my FMP. A
strength of my planning would be to properly figure out
what looks id be creating to ensure that I was certain
about what I post on my website and professional
Instagram. Another strength of my planning is that my
product experiment was very well thought out and interesting
to look at, which was important because it influenced my
official posters in my FMP.
• A weakness of my planning would be that I didn’t plan my
entire schedule which in turn made it more difficult to figure
out what I am doing on each day. I would change this by
finishing my schedule and to keep to it by doing some
work in my own time and not getting distracted in class. It
took me a while to find a suitable remix to include in the
tutorial because the majority of them weren’t exciting
5. Time Management
• I didn’t managed to keep on schedule through
out my FMP which has made me . I think
that my FMP would be slightly better with more
time to complete difficult tasks so that I could
focus on my website more.
• Next time I will try and complete more work at
home and try to be less distracted when it
comes to working. I will also spend an equal
amount of time on my website as my videos
and posters. Next time I will book personal
appointments around my college hours to spend
more of my time on my work.
6. Technical Qualities
My video tutorial compared to
the existing tutorials is
considerable different
considering that my tutorial is
that the speed and duration is
quite fast with no verbal or visual
instructions because its slow
enough to be followed how ever
the existing video is much more
appealing because of its close up
frame and upbeat voice over
instructions, also the existing
video was a video tutorial of a
face and mine was of an arm.
This will attract the target
audience because they will like
to see if my video tutorial will be
good although it is only a short
tutorial.
My poster compared to
other media makeup posters
I quite similar referring too
the arrangement of the
cover, having the same sort
of interesting text which is
readable and eye-catching
and by using the image of a
very famous celebrity it then
attracts all of their fans so
that they will read it.
My magazine cover also has
some differences, the
colourful shapes behind the
text and some of the text is
bright and colourful to make
it stand out and eye-
catching.
The products I used in
my makeup tutorials
are more affordable
therefore I will have a
wider range of people
in my audience unlike
the existing tutorial
where she uses
expensive products
only letting a certain
social group follow her
tutorials.
7. Aesthetic Qualities
I used this font for my poster title to make
sure that it would be interesting for my
target audience and anyone interested in
the alternative spooky look and feel of the
logo, and I used black so that it would
stand out against a light blue background
also the font reflects the genre of the
makeup tutorial.
I found the colour scheme of the poster quite
effective however I should have added more
of a variety of dark sparkly mermaid colours
to make it more effective. This would be
attractive to the my target audience because
through my research it was identified that
they're interested in bold and intricate
designs with colours which reflect the tone
and mood of the make up genre.
I like the way the shape and size of the scales on the
face look detailed and realistic. Its effective because my
target audience are trying to achieve a more realistic
and professional look.
I found the tutorial visually interesting
because you could see specifically what
is going on although it could have been
a bit more informative so that the
audience could follow it a lot more, this
would help inexperienced artists so I
could have had a voice over or slower
more informative subtitles.
I found the camera was out of focus on
the postproduction stage there for I
couldn’t do anything about it although
next time I will make sure to check the
focus twice.
8. Audience Appeal
Age range: I recognized that people in this age range(16-34) may not have the
money to spend on the expensive equipment and products that are available
because I am a member of that age range.
Gender: My product will appeal to this audience because the majority of my
audience (at 55.56%) are females although I will still consider the interests of my
male audience (at 33.33%). Although I used female models it doesn’t mean you
have to have a feminine looking face to pull it off because the looks aren’t
gender specific.
Social status: my product would appeal to ABC1 C2DE because the products I
have used are affordable also because I have put my tutorials on a globally
accessible site with out any expensive subscriptions. Some of the products I
have used for my tutorials are more expensive than others but the products are
generally affordable such as PVA glue(£2.42), pritt-stick(£3.00) and translucent
powder(£7.56).
Psychographic: Belongers are more likely to watch a continuing series of
tutorials to keep up with all the new and interesting trends of media makeup.
They will feel attracted to my product because it will include them and involve
them in a larger collective group all interested in the same thing.
10. Feedback 1
• What did you like about the product?
– I enjoyed the video as it was very informative through the visual images sequenced
together. The camerawork was well conducted and the focus and shots worked nicely.
The time lapse element helped keep the audience interested and engaged.
– The poster works really well to show the SFX look and the focus of the image displays
the detail well. The editing done to the image and the eye ties the look together nicely
and the font suits the genre of the piece whilst also being informative.
• What improvements could have been made to the product?
– The video could have had some audio narrative over the soundtrack as this would
ensure that the audience fully understood the process of the look. It could have also had
still shots of the key stages montaged at the end to reinforce the steps in a quick
summative form.
– The poster could have benefitted from some industry logos such as the artists branding
or contact details such as a blog address so the audience would know who the artist is
and how to access their work.
11. Feedback 2
• What did you like about the product?
– I liked the music in it, this fit in well with the age range of the product. The editing style
was very raw which worked well with the video and the graphics. They all
complemented each other. The picture of the finished product at the end of the product
also illustrates to the audience what they are aiming for.
– The poster for the product is framed correctly and creates audience interest for the
product. It shows the make up off well and the scaly theme.
• What improvements could have been made to the product?
– Another product could have been added to the product to help with the video. This
would have shown a wider range of the make up that could be created within the
theme.
– The black and white theme on the logo could be structured towards the social media
platform or YouTube for illustration of the channel content.
12. Feedback 3
• What did you like about the product?
– I liked the music choice in the product it really made the content flow.
– Half way though the video the shot became batter with a full view in what you
where doing.
– The choice in content was unique and new to me especially therefore was
interesting content
• What improvements could have been made to the product?
– 1st half you could of angled the camera better so we could see what you
where actually putting on the arm.
– Should of edited out the waiting parts in-between getting the makeup.
13. Peer Feedback Summary
• What do you agree with from your peer feedback?
– I agree that the editing on the poster was effective because it helped bring the
entire poster together although I could have added a little bit more
information to make sure that the audience knew who that artist was and who
they needed to contact for any extra information.
– I also agree with the fact that the music fits in with the age range of the
product because I am the same age as most of my target audience.
– I agree that I needed to include some audio instructions to the video tutorial
to make sure that the audience watching could fully understand the process of
the look because I understand that instructions are very important and are a
key part of any tutorial.
• What do you disagree with from your peer feedback?
– I disagree with the fact that changing my logo in any way would make it fit any
social media format because it fits in with ideals of my target audience.
14. Peer Feedback Summary
As a makeup artist, video and poster editor and producer next time in my
video tutorial I will add a voice over giving instructions to the audience
because it will help them do the makeup step by step. I will also put
information on the poster to connect the advertisement to a product, this
would help because it would attract more viewers to my blogger.
Next time I would produce a couple more posters and video tutorials to show
off my skills, these would be based around a different theme with similar
products to the current project. With my video tutorials I could also have added
subtitles which would make it open to social media. This would appeal to my target
audience because they learn and understand tutorials through visual subtitles and
voice overs.
