2. Initial Reaction
After hearing the brief I was interested to see what qualities I could learn from the project and using software that I’m
familiar with but not as skilful with compared to Premiere, so I thought it would be interesting to explore the different
features of the software's and through this project learning more tools and shortcuts in the programme.
Also when I heard the song I thought about different video games that I had played in the past and how I would use
inspiration from them to help me create a new unique game. Although I don’t play many video games I use apps on my
phone and in the past have played video games. Immediately the idea of creating an adventure/story game was
something I knew I wanted to explore the idea of, because in the past during projects I have created very basic games
which in my opinion haven’t been to the best of my ability because not a lot of innovative had been used in the
production and the games weren’t complicated. So I am interested in the idea of creating an adventure game with a
thought through storyline. I want to explore different game genres, e.g. horror, or action.
I thought about what target audience my game would be aiming at, the average target audience would be expected to
be teenagers however over a third off the gaming community are over 34 which leaves less then two thirds being under
34, so for my game I would have to find a way to approach a much wider audience. Also, I wouldn’t purposefully target
my game at a specific gender but with the audience split of gamers being 30% female and 70% male I would maybe
include a male leading character to reach out to as much of my audience as possible.
After hearing the brief one of the things I was excited for was planning and creating the scenery and background for my
game.
However I thought the brief was quite vague and has left us a lot of freedom to create whatever game we want so it
will be interesting to see what kind of video games other people in the class produce and whether there is a certain
style that all the games follow.
Although I am interested in this topic and think that I could learn skills from it that will come in useful in later projects,
video games isn’t something I’m passionate about and I cant imagine myself choosing it for my main project at the end
of the year, however this could be because I haven’t had enough experience in the subject and this topic could change
my overall opinion.

5. Mood Board
According to The guardian the top 3 video
games in 2018 were :
This contradicts massively with the
2000’s top three video games:
This shows us how
much games have
developed in the
past 18 years, with a
game as simple as
Sims that was just
basic easy to follow
storylines and now
the games in 2018
have a lot better
graphics and more
detailed storylines
with hundreds of
levels.
For my game I’m interested in creating a Horror them so I’ve been researching
different existing horror inspired games and here are a few examples I found.
All the horror games include a
gruesome character used to
scare the audience, this
character is usually not human
and very sinister.
In all the horror games the setting is dull and abandoned.
6. Mood Board Analysis
In my mood board the overall mood is a dark
and grunge undertone, this is because my
mood board is centred around the idea of a
horror style game, the mood board contains
different existing characters from horror
games and different settings that I could
potentially take inspiration from. All my
images shared multiple qualities, for example
the lighting in all of them was dank and
usually lit using a green glow to indicate a
night vision camera.
I used fonts, Blackadder ITC, because I think
the old fashioned writing is spooky and
usually associated with creepy olden day
letters. And I also used Chiller as the font
looked like blood dripping and this tied in well
with the theme.
