1. Saturdays rehearsal
Focus: The focus for todays rehearsal was to rehearse all group pieces to make sure everybody in the routines knew exactly what they are doing
through the routines. Also, the focus was to make sure everybody knew how we were transitioning between each piece. Therefore, my target
for the day was to make sure I knew exactly what I was doing and was confident with how I was performing each section.
Warmup: To start the day we discussed the plan of action and how to achieve the aims we set. This made me realize what sections I needed to
work on and develop. Afterward we did a group warm up that consisted of mind games. We stood in a circle and did and action of brushing off
our shoulder and counting up to seven. We passed this around the circle and could change the way the action went round the circle. I found this
warm up quite hard because I really had to think about the warm up and when it went really quick I found it hard to think what I had to do. Then
after we add an extra move, on 3 we had to point under our leg in the direction of the past. This made the warm up harder because we had
more to think about at eh same time. After awhile we added another action on number 5, we reached our arms over our head in the direction of
the pass. As we continued to do the warm up I became easier. We then added another action so that on 1 we clapped our hands. When we
finished this we started running through parts of the performance.
Hamilton: The first piece we ran was the Hamilton section, this piece has both year 12 and 13 students in it. The first part we ran was Alexander
Hamilton, we had to stage the performance because we hadn’t had time to stage the performance. When we started to run it through we
realized the stage was smaller then we original expected, this was because the built stage was bigger than expected. To solve this problem we
had to respace the performance. Once we had fixed this routine we moved on to My Shot, we also had the same issue with this routine because
there was a lot of us to fix on the stage and not a lot of room. As we went through the routine we realized that some of the choreography
needed to be changed. We changed the step turn step, to just a turn on the spot. After, we fixed the spacing for My Shot we looked at the
transitions between My Shot and Schyler Sisters. We decide that we would do a turn when Brandon rapped ”more” and then for the rest of the
rap we walked of giving the schyler sister funny looks as we walked off. The last piece we had to place was Yorktown. For Yorktown we had to
place where the boxes we carried were going, and who was placing which one where it was needed. This was really hard as we needed to make
sure the right box was on the right side when it need to be there. We eventually fixed the issue we were having we moved on to see the year
13’s Grease, and after that we performed Bring It On.
Bring it On: We then ran Bring It On, to show year 13’s and get their opinions on what was good and what could be improved. When we went to
set up the stage with the table on the built stage we discovered that the stage was smaller than the built stage. To solve this problem we
changed the table from being on an angle to being straight. Also, when we ran Bring It On we had the year 13’s peer evaluated what we had
done. They told us to try and project even more during the dialogue. Also they said we need to keep the energy throughout the whole
2. performance. I found it to keep my energy up throughout the whole performance because it was a very energetic performance.
Finale: We move on to discuss how the finale was going to happen. We decided we were doing it to “The Greatest Show” from the greatest
showman. We used choreography from the ‘Come Alive’ because we wanted to use repertoire but there wasn’t repertoire for the ’The Greatest
Show’. When we learnt the choreography some of us struggled but I found picking up the choreography from the video because it was in a
dance style that I train in and feel comfortable dancing. Once some of us had learn it we taught it to the others who were struggling to pick up
the choreography. I found it easy to teach people the routine because I could break it down enough and slow it down for them. Also, when they
asked me about little details I could answer the question because I enjoy finding the little details in dance routines. Afterwards we decided who
was coming on when. It started with all the other people who were helping us put on this performance. Then the year 12’s & 13’s came on in a
line that went in the order of year 12 then 13 and so on. Then we bowed as individual years just in time for the dance section to start. I found
the finale easier because it wasn’t to be complicated or long so we knew exactly what we were doing quickly.
Strengths: During the Saturday rehearsal, I found that I had a strength for being able to deal with changes in the moment they are given to us. I
know this because when we had to change some of the stuff I could figure out what I was supposed to do after and before to make to change
happen. This is good in the industry because I will be given changes and expected to fix it straight away, not take a long time to change the error.
Weakness: However, my weakness was being able to explain the change to the other who were struggling picking up the change, this is due to
the fact that I have always been in lesson where others have picked up the changes when I have. To improve this, I will work with the people
who are struggle more and help them pick up the changes and then hopefully I will be able to help explain the changes better.
