vaginal flatulence: signs & symptoms, risk factor, causes and management

FLATULENCE

2. • It is a discharge of gas, air, or wind from the vagina.
Although the gas is harmless and odorless, some
people might feel stress and shame as a result of it.
• It is also called vart, queef/queefing, vaginal wind,
vaginal gas, vaginal flatus, and flatus vaginalis.

3. Signs and Symptoms:
•Occurs with random movements,
•Any pelvic floor dysfunctions,
•You may feel or hear the air leaving your
vagina,
•It only lasts for a few seconds.

4. Risk factors:
•Vaginal Surgery,
•Pelvic floor dysfunction,
•Inflammatory Bowel disease,
•Radiation therapy,
•Enterovaginal fistula,
•Tumor.

5. Causes:
•Sexual activities,
•Using menstrual products like tampons or
menstrual cups,
•Vaginal examination,
•Vaginal fistulas,
•Exercises,

6. •Increased abdominal pressure,
•Jogging,
•Vaginal Estrogenization.

7. MANAGEMENT:
•Yoga: breathing and relaxation exercises can reduce
stress and tension.
•Kegel exercises,
•Vaginal pessary like a bard, round pessary,
•Pelvic floor muscle training,
•Tampon- prevent air entry during exercise,
•Radiofrequency & Vaginal lasers.

8. SURGICAL:
It is advised for persons with pelvic floor dysfunctions
and tumours,
•Colpoperineorrhaphy,
•Cervix amputation,
•Vaginal hysterectomy,
•Sacro spinal vaginal fixation.
