is the oldest recreational drug and likely contributes to more morbidity,
mortality, and public health costs than all illicit drugs combined. The
5th edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders
(DSM-5) integrates alcohol abuse and alcohol dependence into a single
disorder called alcohol use disorder (AUD), with mild, moderate,
and severe subclassifications (American Psychiatric Association, 2013).
In the DSM-5, all types of substance abuse and dependence have been
combined into a single substance use disorder (SUD) on a continuum
from mild to severe. A diagnosis of AUD requires that at least two of
the 11 DSM-5 behaviors be present within a 12-month period (mild
AUD: 2–3 criteria; moderate AUD: 4–5 criteria; severe AUD: 6–11 criteria).
The four main behavioral effects of AUD are impaired control over
drinking, negative social consequences, risky use, and altered physiological
effects (tolerance, withdrawal). This chapter presents an overview
of the prevalence and harmful consequences of AUD in the U.S.,
the systemic nature of the disease, neurocircuitry and stages of AUD,
comorbidities, fetal alcohol spectrum disorders, genetic risk factors, and
pharmacotherapies for AUD.

2. • Thigh chafing happens when your inner thighs rub against
one another due to clothes or skin-to-skin contact.
• In summer, it could be more severe.
4. • You may have dark spots in your inner thighs if you have
frequent chafing.
• These occur after chafing heals, however, they may
come back if you have chafing again.
6. Why is chafing more common in the summer?
• Chafing is frequently caused by friction & moisture,
therefore more people will have chafing in the summer
because they tend to be more active & sweat.
• In a nutshell, sweating makes skin fragile.
7. PREVENTION:
•Thigh bands - In order to prevent chafing, you wear little
elastic bands around your thighs. These are particularly useful
if you are wearing dresses and skirts, however, you can also
wear them underneath shorts, pants, and sportswear.
•Thigh-chafing shorts - They work similarly to thigh bands with
the added benefit of absorbing excess sweating. Over dresses,
chafing shorts are particularly beneficial.
8. •Compression shorts - it works effectively in reducing thigh
chafing.
•Thigh chafing cream - simple to use. They are made with
lubricants that help prevent your skin from sticking together
and reduce the risk of friction.
•Powder - Before dressing, apply body powder to your thighs
to prevent both moisture and chafing.
9. • Petroleum jelly - petroleum jelly acts as a lubricating
property and also acts as a barrier to reduce friction and
chafing. For burn relief, you may also apply petroleum jelly
to the chafed thighs.
