1. Månedsrapport Jomfruland Fuglestasjon
for AUGUST 2018
Fuglestasjonen var bemannet samtlige dager i august.
Gjennomsnittstemperaturen var 16,8 grader, 1,1 grader over normalen.
Høyeste temperatur var 24,8 grader (4. august), og laveste var 10,0
grader (25. august). Høyeste vindhastighet var sterk kuling, 18,5 m/sek.
(10. august).
August var preget av et tørt og varmt vær typisk for årstiden, med
normale nedbørsmengder og en gjennomsnittstemperatur like over
normalen.
Fuglelivet
En havlire trakk mot sørvest den 22. En 3K hann sivhauk trakk mot
nordøst den 8., mens en hunnfarget ble sett den 20. Flere lerkefalk ble
sett mot slutten av måneden; 1 ind. (1K) trakk mot nordøst den 21., 1
ind. (ad.) den 28. og 1 ind. trakk mot nordøst den 31. En dverglo ble sett
på nordenden den 11. og 12., mens en boltit trakk mot sørvest den 19.
Det har vært gode forekomster av svarthalespove i 2018, og 2 ind. (1K)
ble sett 12.- 14. Årets første fjellmyrløper ble sett kort på nordenden den
11. Flere temmincksnipe ble sett både på Jomfruland og Stråholmen i
løpet av måneden, med opp mot 3 ind. 6.- 8. En tyvjo trakk mot sørvest
den 9., og 2 ind. samme retning den 22. Flere gode dager med storjo ble
også loggført; 24 ind. den 10., 28 ind. den 18., og hele 47 ind. den 22.,
som var den nest høyeste noteringen i stasjonens historie (mest: 55 ind.
tilsvarende dato i 2003). Flere splitterne trakk mot sørvest tidlig i
måneden; 1 ind. den 3., 4 ind. den 4. og 2 ind. den 8. En jordugle ble sett
den 11. Nattravn hadde en svært dårlig forekomst på Jomfruland denne

2. måneden, og kun 2 ind. ble sett; 11. og 22. Myrsanger ble påvist
hekkende på Jomfruland i år, og 1-2 voksne ble sett med mat i nebbet
den 4. og 5. 1 ind. ble også sett på Stråholmen den 6. En svartkråke ble
sett den 14. En rekke observasjoner av rosenfink ble gjort i løpet av
første halvdel av måneden, trolig som en følge av årets vellykkede
hekkinger. 1 ind. ble ringmerket den 3. På det meste ble 3 ind. sett den
4. og 6.
Ringmerking
943 fugler ble ringmerket i løpet av måneden, som brakte årstotalen opp
i 3440 ind.
De tre mest tallrike artene ble løvsanger (525), munk (55) og rødstrupe
(39).
Nye årsarter
2 årsarter ble registrert i løpet av måneden, noe som bragte årstotalen
opp i 207 arter. Dette er 8 arter færre enn i august 2017.
Sjeldenheter/ Lokale rariteter:
Ingen sjeldenheter ut over de som allerede er nevnt ble sett i løpet av
måneden.

3. ENGLISH
The bird observatory was manned all days in August.
The average temperature was 16.8 degrees Celsius, 1.1 degrees above
the normal. The highest temperature was on the 4th
with 24.8 degrees,
and the lowest on the 25th
with 10.0 degrees. The highest wind speed
was gale, 18.5 m/sec, on the 10th
.
August was characterized by a dry and warm weather, typical for the
time of the year, with normal amounts of precipitation, and an average
temperature just above the normal.
Birds
A Manx Shearwater migrated southwest-wards on the 22nd
. A 3cy Marsh
Harrier migrated northeast-wards on the 8th
, whilst a female-colored were
seen on the 20th
. Several Hobby were seen at the end of the month; 1
ind. (1cy) migrated northeast-wards on the 21st
, 1 ind. (ad.) on the 28th
and 1 ind. migrated northeast-wards on the 31st
. A Little Ringed Plover
were seen on the northern tip on the 11th
and 12th
, whilst a Dotterel
migrated southwest-wards on the 19th
. It has been a good occurrence for
the Black-tailed Godwit in 2018, and 2 ind. (1cy) was seen 12th
- 14th
. The
first Broad-billed Sandpiper of the year was seen shortly on the northern
tip on the 11th
. Several Temminck’s Stint was seen on both Jomfruland
and Stråholmen during the month, with up to 3 ind. on the 6th
- 8th
. An
Arctic Skua migrated southwest-wards on the 9th
, and 2 ind. the same
direction on the 22nd
. Several good days with Great Skua was also
logged; 24 ind. on the 10th
, 28 ind. on the 18th
, and no less than 47 ind.
on the 22nd
, which was the second highest count in the history (most: 55
ind. on the same day in 2003). Several Sandwich Tern migrated
southwest-wards early in August; 1 ind. on the 3rd
, 4 ind. on the 4th

. A Short-eared Owl was seen on the 11th
. The Nightjar had
a very weak occurrence on Jomfruland this month, and only 2 ind. were
seen; 11th
and 22nd
. The Marsh Warbler was detected breeding on
Jomfruland this year, and 1-2 adults was seen with food in the bill on the
4th
and 5th
. 1 ind. was also seen on Stråholmen on the 6th
. A Carrion
Crow was seen on the 14th
. Several observations of the Rosefinch were
made during the first half of the month, probably as a result of this year’s
successful breeding’s. 1 ind. got ringed on the 3rd
. On the most, 3 ind.
was seen on the 4th
and 6th
.

4. Ringing
943 birds got ringed during the month, which brought the total up to
3,440 ind.
The 3 most numerous birds ringed was Willow Warbler (525), Blackcap
(55) and Robin (39).
New species of the year
2 new species of the year were registered, which brought the total up to
207 species. This is 8 species less than in August 2017.
Rare birds/ local rarities
No rare birds was registered, except those already mentioned above.
