Månedsrapport Jomfruland Fuglestasjon
for JULI 2017
Fuglestasjonen var bemannet 29 dager i juli.
Gjennomsnittstemperaturen var 16,6 grader, 0,1 grader over normalen.
gjennomsnittstemperaturen allikevel rundt normalen.
Fuglelivet
lokaliteten (under 10 funn).
i 2661 ind.
opp i 212 arter. Dette er 9 arter flere enn i juni 2016.
Sjeldenheter/ Lokale rariteter:
noteringen i Norge.
3. ENGLISH
The bird observatory was manned 29 days in July.
The average temperature was 16.6 degrees Celsius, 0.1 degrees above
the normal. The highest temperature was on the 23rd
with 24.5 degrees,
and the lowest on the 6th
with 10.2 degrees. The highest wind speed was
gale, 14.4 m/sec, on the 3rd
.
Unlike June, which was the wettest month in more than a year, July was
the driest in the same period. Despite this, the average temperature
ended around the normal.
Birds
A female-colored Northern Pintail was seen on Stråholmen on the 30th
. 3
males Greater Scaup showed surprisingly up on the 11th
. This species is
rare in the summer, and it was only the second July record for the bird
observatory. A Common Quail was heard singing on Stråholmen on the
1st
; an irregular species on this island (less than 10 records). A 1cy Little
Ringed Plover was seen on the northern tip of Jomfruland on the 24th
,
whilst a Temminck’s Stint was seen on the day after. 2 Arctic Skua
headed southwest-wards on the 18th
. Several Nightjars were registered
during the month, and 4 ind. was caught and ringed, e.g. 3 ind. on the
29th
. A Sedge Warbler get caught and ringed on the 26th
, whilst 2 Marsh
Warbler was seen on Stråholmen on the 30th
. A minor invasion of Two-
barred Crossbill occurred at the end of the month, more about the
records in a later section.
Ringing
220 birds got ringed during the month, which brought the total up to 2661
ind.
The 3 most numerous birds ringed was Willow Warbler (60), Robin (24)
and Blue Tit (16).
New species of the year
3 new species of the year were registered, which brought the total up to
212 species. This is 9 more than in July 2016.
4. Rare birds/ local rarities
A minor invasion of Two-barred Crossbill occurred at the end of the
month, and as much as 110 ind. migrated northeast-wards on the 25th
.
On the same day, 4 ind. (a family group with a pair and 2 1cy) got ringed
as well. This is more than a doubling of the former maximum for the bird
observatory, and the third highest count ever in Norway. This species is
specialized on eating seeds from larch cones, and is distributed in the
taiga from Finland and eastwards through Russia all the way to the
Pacific Ocean, and also in North America. Norway doesn’t have a
breeding population of this eastern invasion species, but the European
population is estimated to up to 4.2 million pairs, whilst the world
population is estimated up to more than 40 million pairs. The numbers
are uncertain.
