3. The word “industrial textiles” are defined as
specially designed and engineered structures that
are used in products, processes, or services of
mostly nontextile industries. The term “industrial
textiles” is the most widely used term for
nontraditional textiles. Textiles materials mainly
used in industry and manufactured industrial
products are called industrial textiles. Textiles are
widely used, especially in the chemical, electronics,
civil and mechanical industries. These sectors
include direct or indirect use of textile materials in
filtration, finishing, cleaning, industrial or
manufactured products.

Traditional textiles are considered to
be somewhat older than industrial
textiles, although both of them
originated a few thousand years ago.
The journey of modern industrial
textiles began with the use of canvas
cloth when navigating ships at sea.
The market for industrial textiles
underwent a significant change in
the first half of the twentieth century
with the invention of man-made
synthetic fibers.

Some Common Applications Of Industrial Textile
Industrial Brushes
Brushes are used for various surface finishing and
surface cleaning applications both for Industrial and
household purpose. Brushes used for Painting
applications constitute majority of the demand for
Brushes. Other specific industrial applications include
Textile finishing, Capsule polishing (Pharma industry),
Cleaning of conveyor belts (Material handling
industry), Bottle cleaning, etc.

Printed Circuit Board (PCB)
Printed circuit board is an essential part of
modern technology. Today, based on almost all
modern electronic printed circuit boards,
provide electrical and mechanical connections
for components of different systems. The use of
this small portion of plastic and glass fibers is
one of the reasons for the growth of the
electronic industry.

Fabric Circuit Board
It is a new technology .Qiao Li and Xiao Ming
Tao, two researchers from Hong Kong
Polytechnic University, created the ‘Fabric
Circuit Board’ using “Computerized Knitting
Technology” in a combination of conductive
fibrous metal materials and ancient fabrics. The
process finished fabric circuit board holds 3D
circuits that are bending, stretching and washing
resistant.

Computer Printer Ribbon
The computer printer cartridge of a dot matrix printer
(DMP) is known as “computer printer ribbon”, which is
made of a cassette and ink fabric. Oven (woven) fabric
is made using nylon-6 yarn which is cut to the size
required for making computer printer ribbon. The
required properties for this fabric are high tensile
strength, good absorption capacity, capillary action,
shock resistant, scratch resistant, good heat resistant etc.
These features enable the ribbon to carry ink and
withstand pressure during printing.

Conveyor Belt
Conveyor belt system is the modern, efficient and
best way to transport goods. A conveyor belt is
made from polyvinyl chloride and fabric such as
polyester or styrene-butadiene rubber and several
layers of polyester or nylon fabric. These are
designed in such a way that they can easily move all
weights and loads of different sizes from one place
to another. This type of belt is risk free and can be
easily installed anywhere.

Fire Hose Flexible Pipe
Hose-pipes from textile materials that may stand up
to an exact pressure. The raw materials contain
cotton, ramie, flax and manmade fiber in these goods.
This can be appropriate for high-pressure delivery
while not leaking. The features of hosepipes are good
resistance of abrasion, preservative and light in
weight.

Sound Proofing Parts
Nonwoven Textile materials are widely used for sound
insulation and sound absorptions applications due to
their porous structure in recent times. These materials
are used as sound absorbers, sound diffusers, noise
barriers and sound reflectors. For the sound transmission
through friction, the sound waves should penetrate into
the absorbent material. The loss of sound energy in
textile materials is influenced by numerous physical
problems like types of fiber, fiber diameter, material
thickness & density, bonding techniques, air resistance
and porosity.

A belt drive is a type of frictional drive that is a
flexible component of a mechanical system. It
transfers energy from one shaft of the machine
to another. This energy or speed is caused by the
friction between the belt drive and the machine
pulley. The use of V-belts from flat and equal
belts is increasing, as its efficiency is higher
than that of flat belts and can transmit
maximum amount of power. These are made of
vinyl, poly-vinyl etc.

Industrial textiles serve many purposes in industrial applications like electrical, mechanical,
paint industry etc. If the use of industrial textiles is a little less than other sectors and there
is not much work in this sector in Bangladesh. However, through research & developments,
it is possible to produce a variety of hi-tech products, as well as filtration products.
