4. Public School: Langley Secondary School
21405 56 Ave, Langley, BC
o Langley Secondary School is an example of a public
sector because the school “enhances the quality of
life and well-being of citizens” (Lunn, 2022, p. 3).
o The School serves the general public and wants to
do this positively.
SPSC CONNECTION
o LSS is an example of all three, education, recreation
and coaching.
o LSS educates their students as they come to school
each day. The school also offers recreation and
leisure programs to the public. Coaching is also
present, as LSS as many sports teams in which
coaching is important.

5. Macleod
Athletic Park
5687 Johnston Townline Rd, Langley, BC
• Macleod Athletic Park is an example of a public service
sector because one of its main concerns is the
“communal good of society” (Lunn, 2022, p.3).
• Two more reasons is that the park “provides
opportunities for recreation to disadvantaged clients”
(Lunn, 2022, p.3). The park is free and open to whoever.
The second reason is that it encourages healthy
lifestyles to the community. People are encouraged to
run the track and use the grass fields.
SPSC CONNECTION
Macleod Athletic Park is an example of recreation and
coaching. There are soccer/baseball and football teams
that practice and play at this park. I personally have been
coached soccer many times at this field. It is also an
example of recreation as the public can run the track at
any time.

6. W.C. Blair Recreation Center
22200 Fraser Hwy, Langley, BC
• W.C. Blair Recreation Center is an
example of a public service sector. This
center is very service orientated. It has
filled a gap in Langley. It provides “fitness,
sport, age-related programs, events, arts,
leadership” (Lunn, 2022, p. 3)
SPSC CONNECTION
• This is an example of recreation and
coaching. There is a gym and swimming
pool where coaching takes place. The
recreation facility “serves the needs of the
total community” and is “essential to a
person’s physical and social well-being
and to overall quality of life.

8. SPSC CONNECTION
Credo Christian High School is an
example of education, recreation and
coaching. Similar to the LSS example,
Credo teaches students daily. It has
recreation opportunities through
programs, fields, gym. The school
offers sports teams that have coaches.
It also gives opportunities to high
school students to be in a coaching
role.
Credo Christian High School
21846 52 Ave, Langley, BC
o Credo Christian High School is a
private school in Langley.
o This school provides “increase in
employment opportunities” and
“increased recreation
opportunities” (Lunn, 2022, p. 7).

9. Langley Golf & Banquet Center
21550 44 Ave., Langley, BC
• This is an example of a commercial sector. This is
because it is “consumer desired” and “based on
demand” (Lunn, 2021, p. 6).
• The golf course targets a specific market group.
• The golf course is also profit orientated which is an
important concept to commercial sectors.
SPSC CONNECTION
The golf course is a recreation, education and coaching
example. Sometimes schools take their students to golf
courses, which considers the education part. There is also
many people learning how to golf, which is the coaching
part. The biggest part is recreation, as seen in the photo.
Golf is a hobby and many love to golf and go to the driving
range.

10. Starbucks
20831 Fraser Hwy, Langley, BC
• Starbucks is an example of a commercial sector for
a number of reasons. A few reasons is that it is
profit orientated, targeted to those who can afford
it, advertising and sponsors, contributes to the
wealth of Langley.
SPSC CONNECTION
Starbucks is a recreation example. Many people go to
the coffee shop daily and interact with other
members of Langley. Starbucks also draws in a
group of students/workers who like to grab coffee
and work at the coffee shop. I have definitely done
this with a few friends and enjoy doing it.

p. 7).

12. Langley United Soccer Association
7707 202b St, Langley, BC
• This association “invests in the future”
(Lunn, 2022. p. 10). There is time and
efforts spent to help athletes grow on and
off the field.
• This is a coaching and recreation example.
There are many coaching positions
available through this association. Most of
the coaches are volunteer positions which
shows that the organization needs
“volunteers for sustained survival” (Lunn,
2022, p. 10). When your on a team you do
recreational activities with your team and
make lots of new friends.

13. Langley Canadian
Reformed Church
21804 52 Ave, Langley Twp, BC
• This church shows many reasons for why it is part
of a voluntary sector. The main ones are that they
“rely on members”, “invest in the future”, “focus on
fundraising”, “establish an organizational culture”
and many more (Lunn, 2022, p. 10).
• This is a recreation and education example. People
come to church twice on Sundays to hear the
gospel preached, this is an educational
environment.
• There are also many recreational aspects to this
church. Some examples are that they have praise
and worship evenings when they sing songs
together, host and run a vacation bible school,
have church picnics, have bible studies for various
age groups, youth group where they play games
together and many more.

We had to worship in our cars due to the pandemic
14. This is an example of a voluntary sector in
Langley. The store “rely on the effort of
members and volunteers for sustained
survival” (Lunn, 2022, p. 10). This is a very
important feature for this thrift store.
Another key feature is that they “focus on
fundraising” (Lunn, 2022, p. 10). All of the
funds raised go to the hope for children
organization which is orphanages in Mexico
and also to the BC Children’s Hospital.
• This is a recreation example. People are
putting time into this thrift store and
organization through recreational reasons.
Hope for Children organizes mission trips
to Mexico (I went on when I was younger)
which is a recreational activity.

15. Connection to Previous Course Adventures
• There are many recreation, education, and coaching connections to the first three course adventures.
Course adventure #1 discussed a bunch about the benefits of leisure and recreation. Through that
assignment I saw lots of personal benefits instead of community benefits. However, now I realize that
recreation is to “improve our quality of life and the quality of life of our community” (Lunn, 2022, p. 3).
There is less of the personal benefits of recreation and more with environmental and social.
• Course adventure #2 discussed the history of PE and REC. There were many education examples in
Langley, which really makes the history of PE show that it affected so many different areas. There is
evidence of the history of PE, here in Langley. Through James Naismith’s invention of basketball, many
schools have basketball teams.
• The third course adventure was about physical literacy and play. There was the educational aspect of the
important of explaining to students what physical literacy meant. This should be present in all the
examples where education was mentioned. The characteristics of play can help coaches improve the
athletes enjoyment during the activity. The theory of optimal arousal is also key, to make sure students
aren’t too bored or too anxious. That theory is important through all the concepts, education, recreation
and coaching. For all of the facilities and organizations mentioned previously, they should consider ways
to improve individuals and the communities experiences. Course adventure #4 shows real life examples
of the previous course adventures. Showing me that they are right around me, right here in Langley.
