A Critique of the Proposed National Education Policy Reform
Self evaluation 1
1. Self-Evaluation (kindergarten)
After having taught the first recorded lesson I must admit that I'm
quite satisfied with the results. I always knew that it wasn't going to be
easy, but I think it was a good experience.
On one hand, I have the negative aspect, that is the whole lesson was
difficult because there was a boy who is autistic, so he's never able to do
the same activities than his mates. Just as I thought the first time I got in
that classroom, that boy didn't behave and he didn't participate during the
class. Furthermore, we (his integrative teacher and I) had several problems
and we had to stop the recording many times because he started to shout
very loud, to run in the classroom, to steal things from his mates and from
me (once he stole the pictures I was showing to the students), etc. Of
course, when he start doing this all the kids get out of control because they
get excited because of the situation, but fortunately they quickly calm down
again. Also, after watching the video, I could observe that still there is a
strong habit: these kids are used to speak in Spanish, so it's a challenge to
make them speak in English, but fortunately, with time and training this
habit can be eradicated.
On the other hand, I have the positive aspects, that is the kids, despite
the different distractions we had had in that lesson, acquired most of the
vocabulary! I could check this when the following week I went to teach
them again and they still remembered the new vocabulary! I'm very glad
because of that, I guess it means that I did something well. Also I can say
that I really enjoyed this experience, I was absolutely nervous, I had
stomachache and I couldn't sleep the previous night, but when I watch the
video I think that teaching young learners is amazing, but we had to put
into practice all the tools we have been given during our training and try
different strategies to get good results.
