Four Stages (David Kolb) Reflection on my practicum period
1- What did I do?
CONCRETE EXPERIENCE
One of the factors that really matters to children is
“fun”. I showed them real objects such as toy
robots at the warm-up stage when I taught body
parts for example. They counted robots when I
taught numbers. And they saw winter and
summer clothes. I showed children real clothes
that were really interesting. They were really
motivated. Games are a great way to make
learning fun. Not only they played different
games, but also “they did something”. They felt
good about their success. I used friendly
competition to focus their attention creating a
positive classroom atmosphere. In that way,
children learnt better. I engaged children by
sharing my enthusiasm, participating, giving
children an active role, and being clear and
2. consistent. They could relax and enjoyed learning
and playing.

2- How did I do it?
REFLECTIVE OBSERVATION
I spoke English all the time. Although their
teacher speaks in Spanish, I used body
movements and gestures to communicate with
them. It was not a difficult task; they could follow
and understand my commands and instructions.
At the beginning, I felt that I was a strange person
who was invading their space. But then, they
were really happy when they knew that I was
going to play with them. They learnt through
pictures, images, and spatial understanding. They
also learnt through interaction, and music.
3- What can I do differently?
ABSTRACT CONCEPTUALISATION
I think that I should focus on dealing with
disruptive behaviour. For better organisation, I
tried to give one by one the chance to participate.
It’s a difficult task but not impossible!
4- What plan should I implement?
ACTIVE EXPERIMENTATION
I should implement more techniques for classroom
management. For example, I can say “1, 2, 3
silence please!”
3. I can say that children love laughing all the time
so laugh with them. Teachers must have sense of
humor, children will make us smile all the time so
giving them smiling face in my lessons was very
very lovely. In addition to this, I think that it’s
really important to begin classes greeting children
with a big smile and a welcome. This actions help
children feel important and of course,set a positive
tone to the class. Last, I can say that I have to
praise children all the time and find something
positive to say about each child.
