Narrative 3:
After being observed…
 How did you feel about being observed?
 Was the feedback useful? Why/not?
The first time I was observed, I taught children about a cultural project as
regards the diversity of families and lifestyles all over the world so that
children can have a different view and know about other cultures apart from
ours. At the beginning of the lesson I felt a bit nervous and under pressure
because someone else was attending my class (John). He observed me since
the moment that children entered the video room. I was fear of failing in
managing the class as children are sociable and restless all the time, for this
reason it was difficult to keep them quiet. However, once I get children sit
down in a circle to watch the video, they kept quiet and I could start the
lesson and those nerves faded. I felt comfortable, tranquil and confident to
explain so that student could understand and work.
Regarding the feedback, it was really useful for me because I had the need to
know how was going on and doing my job. In the comments I found
constructive points as well as the ones I have to improve. One aspect I
expected to find in the feedback was the quality of my voice which was
difficult to hear over the children’s noise as it is a bit low. So this feedback
not only helps me improve the weak points in classroom management, especially
with students who misbehave, but also to know the positive aspects developed
during the lesson. I think that is necessary to have feedback from someone
else so as to use it as a guide.
Although being observed is rather challenging, it is a good experience and a
method to better my teaching.

  • 1. Narrative 3: After being observed…  How did you feel about being observed?  Was the feedback useful? Why/not? The first time I was observed, I taught children about a cultural project as regards the diversity of families and lifestyles all over the world so that children can have a different view and know about other cultures apart from ours. At the beginning of the lesson I felt a bit nervous and under pressure because someone else was attending my class (John). He observed me since the moment that children entered the video room. I was fear of failing in managing the class as children are sociable and restless all the time, for this reason it was difficult to keep them quiet. However, once I get children sit down in a circle to watch the video, they kept quiet and I could start the lesson and those nerves faded. I felt comfortable, tranquil and confident to explain so that student could understand and work. Regarding the feedback, it was really useful for me because I had the need to know how was going on and doing my job. In the comments I found constructive points as well as the ones I have to improve. One aspect I expected to find in the feedback was the quality of my voice which was difficult to hear over the children’s noise as it is a bit low. So this feedback not only helps me improve the weak points in classroom management, especially with students who misbehave, but also to know the positive aspects developed during the lesson. I think that is necessary to have feedback from someone else so as to use it as a guide. Although being observed is rather challenging, it is a good experience and a method to better my teaching.
