1. Group Description II
The classroom where I did my practicum (second period), was formed by
twenty-five students that were about twelve or thirteen years old. Fortunately, all of
them were familiarized to the institution, the teachers and they way of learning and
teaching, as they had been together since first grade and some of them even since
kindergarten. This caused a good environment to work, a great predisposition from
students and very dynamic classes.
However, there were some students that had come to school later, in sixth or
seventh grade, and those students didn’t know how to communicate in English as they
had never had English lessons before. Most of them weren’t able to use the verb to be
properly.
Another important aspect that I had to bear in mind was that there were two
students that were grade repeaters, a boy and a girl, and another student who was
Differently Abled, who did his best to understand what was being taught. Also, there
was a girl who had suffered since she was a child as her mother used to hit her, and the
consequences of this violence were reflected in the girl’s behave and ability to learn
new contents at school.
Although this group contains students with diverse problems, it was not that hard
teaching them, and the experience of being in front of this classroom could be really
enjoyable.
