How does your media product represent particular social groups?
1. From my research, I decided that my target audience would be
female dominated and mainly directed at the age range 17-21 years
old. Also, I chose the music genre Pop/Chart to focus on as it was
most popular within this age range. This age category are young,
enthusiastic and confident. I think that the images in my magazine
fit this social group and also that they link with images from real
media products.
2. I think that my double page spread image represents social groups as it is a lively image
with lots of energy. This reflects my target audience as they are young and enthusiastic so
the image will attract them. My image is compared to KERRANG! Magazines image of My
Chemical Romance. The image is similar as both artists are reflecting their talent by using a
microphone. It is also similar how the artists do not have direct eye contact with the reader.
3. The two images of the artists are glamorous and sophisticated which represents the
younger audience as they have a large focus on their physical image. I feel that these front
cover images are similar as they both have the same position on the magazine. They also
have a neutral facial expression but they have direct eye contact with the reader which
will attract them.
4. An image taken from the snapshots on my double page spread is compared to the image of
Cheryl Cole in Q magazine. Both images are posed similar, although my image is more
energetic which represents the younger social group. Their arm positions are similar
although Cheryl has more of a stronger position due to the image she is trying to convey to
the reader. I think the images represent my target audience as they reflect their
personalities which will attract them to my magazine.
5. The images of real artists on my front cover and the
images on KERRANG! Magazine showing a poster
special are compared as they both represent real
bands which are involved within the magazine. Both
images have the details of the name of the
artist/band next to the image. Both magazines have
a border around the images which creates a
‘snapshot’ effect but also makes them stand out
from the rest of the page. This represents the
younger social group as they are real artists which
they will enjoy listening to. I have chosen artists
which fit the interests of my target audience
therefore they will be attracted to my magazine.
