2. In my magazine I have represented
both women and men of the white
British teenagers/young adults social
groups. This is similar to my target
audience as I wanted to represent
them as it would make the magazine
more relatable for them. The people in
the images are of a similar age to my
target audience which is why I chose
to use them. However there is a clear
imbalances of the genders as there
are clearly more female than male
pictures, I have done this to show that
woman are the subject and not
objectified in my magazine. I have
done this to make my magazine
appeal to both genders of my target
audience (although in my magazines I
have tried to specifically focus on
females, whereas with most
magazines they focus mainly on the
male audience therefor I have broken
code and conventions)
3. For all but 1 of the female shots I used eyeline shots so
that the subject is looking into the camera, this creates
direct mode of address, which is used to create a
personal relationship between the audience and the
artist. The use of direct mode of address especially with
the females makes them more of a subject rather than
an object. This helps with attracting both a female and
male audience as females are not feeling like they are
constantly objectified.
SHOT TYPES
I used close to mid shots for
all my female images but
mid/long shots for the male
models. This again shows the
females as subjects and not
objects as it is focusing on
their facial features and
expression and not their body.
4. My model is wearing classic teenager clothes which are in fashion
this year in the front cover, striped white and black tee with
jeans, this is because this was a very popular fashion for teens
and young adults of 2016. This mise en scene is to help the target
audience relate to the artist, and even see her as an aspiration.
In both the front cover and the contents page my model is
laughing but in two different ways. In the front covers she is
smiling/laughing into the camera causing direct mode of address,
this creates a relationship between the artist and the reader, this
helps represent the social group as they want to feel more
involved with a magazine rather than just reading it. The image in
the contents page she is turned to the right slightly removing
direct mode of address but due to the uplifting expression on her
face I believe it represents that women are not objects but the
subjects and can been shown for the natural beauty and
happiness instead of being sexualised.
MISE EN SCENE
5. The layout of my contents page is not
text heavy, with the text being
informative and to the point which
aims to keep the reader’s attention
but to not lose the professionalism,
and it has many pictures meaning it
is representative of the
teenagers/young adults of my target
audience. I have used a structured
layout, such as columns and heading
so that nothing can easily be missed
as someone of a younger age may
not be so attentive.
LAYOUT
6. Finally, in my production I have mainly used the reception theory
with the ability to relate between the audience and similar aged
artists featured within the magazine. This allows the reader to
create personal relationships between them and the aspirational
artists which entices fans and could potentially create a loyal fan
base for my magazine.
The models I used in the magazine were used and positioned to
represent the teenagers/young adults that would be the audience
and read the article aspiring to be these artists. This is why I
choose the models to show a down to earth realistic role model,
with natural poses and expressions. All expression are happy, to
give a positive uplifting feel to the magazine. None of the poses are
formal and this is reflected in the text.
This is similar to other magazines such as Billboard that grab the
attention of their audience by relating. By doing this it means that
the audience is positioned to get the preferred reading of the media
text.
