Equipment of the
Learner
Two fundamental qualities:
a. Cognitive Faculty
b. Appetitive Faculty
COGNITIVE FACULTIES
 involving conscious intellectual activity such as
thinking, reasoning, or remembering
 involved the learner’s:
FiveSenses Memory
Imagination Intellect
Instinct
FIVE SENSES:
• SEE
• HEAR
• FEEL
• SMELL
• TASTE
IMAGINATION
• Ability of the mind
to build mental
images, objects or
events that is not
present to the
senses
MEMORY
• Responsible for
retaining and recalling
past experiences, an
important reminder to
every learner that
memorizing will not be
functional without
understanding
INTELLECT
• The learner can able
to form concept of
ideas as he/she
thinks, as well as
make judgement
from given
information and
reason out
INSTINCT
• A natural or inherent
aptitude, impulse, or
capacity; behavior
that is mediated by
reactions below the
conscious level
APPETITIVE FACULTIES
 refers to the learner’s feeling, emotions and rational
will
All learners are
equipped with the
cognitive and
appetitive faculties.
They differ in the degree to which they
are utilized and expressed on account of
the Learner’s:
A – ability
A – aptitudes
I – interests
FC – family and cultural background
A - attitudes
Ability
- dictates the
prospects of success
in any purposeful
activity
APTITUDES
- refers to the student’s innate talent
or gift
INTERESTS
- Learners vary in
activities that arc
undertaken due to
strong appeal or
attraction
FAMILY AND CULTURAL
BACKGROUND
- Students who come from different
socioeconomic background manifest a wide
range of behavior
ATTITUDES
- Students have a unique way of
thinking and reacting
