• Play-on-word of “Holler Back Girl”
one of Stefani’s biggest hits.
• “Holly” fits better with the Christmas
issue of the magazine.
Christmas lights add an extra flash to
the magazine, and fit with the
Christmas issue.
Christmas lights turning into
bauble shape fits with the
theme.
Continuous red theme throughout probably because it’s a
festive and bright color that can mean many things such as
romance passion ect which fits with the image of Gwen and the
connotations it gives off.
Red Lipstick
Red Bow- like a
Christmas present bow.
Fun playful font, could be said to be
similar to the Dr Seuss font, who
brought us the iconic Christmas film
The Grinch.
The snow matches the main snow ball with
“film, music style,” which is consistent on all
the front covers of the NME magazines.

Text all found in the white box at
the top and doesn't’t really take
precedent in the whole scheme of
things. This was probably done so
that the text didn't’t hide the
picture which is obviously the
focal point of the front cover. This
suggests that the magazine
focuses more on its aesthetic than
the articles inside, and that the
articles accompany the picture
instead of the other way around.
Eye shadow matches with the
parrot making everything
seem coordinated and linked
together. There is also a
connection between the
bracelet and the top, again
showing the flow of the color's
throughout the picture.
Name of the magazine represents the
content inside. Tells the reader
exactly what the magazine is about,
and that they concentrate on the
looks, arts, fashions and media of
today.

Ode to makeup of the 80’s
that was known to be
creative, artistic and bold.
Full page photo
of focus of the
article- Makeup.
“Return to Makeup”
suggests that it’s a natural
thing and mimics the
phrase “Return to Nature”.
Suggests fashion and
“preening” yourself is just
as natural as the nature
around us.
2 page spread with full page photo shows
that this is a significant topic for the
magazine and its readers, and that’s why it
takes up a lot of room.
I couldn't’t find the exact font for this article, but it
looks like a slightly altered version of Didot. Its
quite a sophisticated. The San Serif font makes it
look more informal however it still maintains a
sense of professionalism and modern tone.
8. Research Analysis
• What common features do the researched products
have?
Most have a bold title that centres at the top of the page, sometimes covered
by the main model in the picture. The colors all usually co-ordinate or
compliment each other. Most audiences tend to be younger audiences that
are interested in the creative industries such as Vouge, Aesthetica, and NME
talks a lot about modern culture and media with young adults being the main
focus.
• What aspects of the research will you include within
your on work?
I think I will include the colour co-ordination because it makes the magazine looks
aesthetically pleasing and neat and gives the impression every aspect has been
thought about. I also think I will include the title placement because I think it’s the
best way for it to be viewed and recognised.
