3. Research
• The strengths of my research where many in my opinion, for one I already
knew a lot about animation on photoshop from prior projects and I
already knew a lot about Dark Souls, this helped in my research greatly as I
could quickly find a lot about what I wanted and needed, then I could
quickly assemble all this into suitable research to complete it, It was fast
and efficient.
• The weaknesses would be that although I had big ambitions maybe my
expectations were too big as the task I was originally going to undertake
would be huge and incredibly difficult to complete, so I simplified and
simplified until I got what I wanted.
4. Planning
• My planning was good, from the start I had a solid idea of what I wanted
and how I was going to get there, I knew what I had to do but it was a hard
task, the planning helped my product as it allowed me to create a
structure for the project as a whole before I fully dedicated myself to
completing it as a whole.
• Again the weakness of my planning was that it was probably a bit too
ambitious, so when I made the project fully, it didn’t live up to what I had
planned, I should have planned something a bit easier from the start and
then I could have added to it at my own pace and try make it more full
rather than trying to make it something I can’t really create at my level.
5. Time Management
• I completed my project on time, I think with another week or two my
project would have been way better, I could have animated more slides
into it and I could have easily made it more visually appealing, personally I
don’t think we had enough time to complete this project, we needed
another week for sure as I don’t think anyone could really get everything
they wanted down onto photoshop before the week was up and I think
that’s a real shame.
• If I had more time I’d of made the characters move more realistically and
made everything just run a lot smoother to make the animation look
better overall as I think this is the most important part of animating.
6. Technical Qualities
As you can clearly see my work is FAR more
simple than the work on the right, but to
make something as good as the one on the
right you have to be extremely skilled, I think
my piece is good for my level but when I get
better at this I should aim for that.
This is a very professionally done pixel art,
there’s so much detail it would take anyone a
while to do something of this scale, in this
picture you can clearly tell the maker has put
a lot of effort into it, but there are some
similarities, the main characters are wearing
the same armour for one, the health bar is
similar also.
7. Aesthetic Qualities
Personally I believe my work looks decent, but it could look a lot better, It wasn’t very
creative as it’s essentially a recreation of an already existing game, I really like how the
characters and the sky looks in my project as I think they work together well and suit a
pixel game, I would improve by making the characters move more and making more
frames to make everything way smoother, it’s too simple in my opinion, that’d be my main
weakness, I needed to have more time to be able to make it a bit more intricate.
8. Audience Appeal
I think my piece has appeals to fans of Dark Souls and that is who I’m trying to appeal to,
also I would argue this would be entertaining for any fan of fantasy games or
action/medieval games as it could also be seen as that type of game. It needs to be more
complex though, better movements in the characters and a much smoother animation
throughout.
