2. Evaluation Overview
This evaluation form is designed to assist you in the evaluation of your projects.
When using this form, it is good practice to:
⢠Use appropriate terminology.
⢠Stay concise and focus on key points.
⢠Evaluate and analyse your statements.
⢠Focus on judgements about work rather than telling a story of how it was made.
Please find the grading matrix here to help you assess you are working at the right level.

3. Project Overview
In this section you will outline the aim of the project/task and give an
overview of the activates you undertook to complete it.
4. What was the theme of your project and
what attracted you to it?
⢠The theme of my project was illusion. I was attracted to this theme
because I thought I could play around with the meaning of illusion as
many things can be considered an illusion even if it's not a typical
optical illusion.
5. What research did you undertake and how
did it help develop your project?
⢠I researched things that alternative teenagers in York are into. I did
this so I could try and include aspects of the things they like into my
short film
6. How did you develop and improve your ideas
throughout the project?
⢠The original idea I had for my project was to make a Blair witch
project inspired short film. This idea improved to be the film I
made about someone going insane in isolation. I think this is an
improvement from my first idea because it is more original and
wasnât inspired by any other pre-existing films
7. Personal Response
This section will explore your thoughts and feelings about the
experience. This will help gain a understand of how your personal
feelings may have impacted the final outcome.
8. How did you feel about the project before
you started?
⢠Before I started, I was very confused about what we were supposed
to do especially with the group aspect of the project as 2 members of
my group are hardly show up to class which made it harder, more
confusing and I hated every second of it. For the second half of the
project where I was working on my own, I was still very confused
about what I was doing until I got to the production part of this
project, but I didn't hate this part I was just confused.
9. What do you think about your project development and
how did it help you to refine your idea?
⢠My initial idea for my project was to do a Blair witch project found
footage style kind of video, but I changed my idea to being about
going insane after looking for mood board images on Pinterest to
inspire me and I was inspired by not wanting to film outside because
its winter and very cold.
10. Did you collaborate on your project or engage
contributors, etc?
⢠We had to collaborate for the first half of the project as it started as a
group project. I mainly worked with Millie for the group half off the
project, we shared PowerPoints to work on together as we work well
together and we were both there all the time compared to the others
in our group who rarely show up.
11. How did you feel when the project was
completed and why?
⢠I was very happy when the project was completed because I really
liked how my short horror film turned out and I was happy the project
as a whole was over because I didn't like this project.
12. Evaluating the project
In the previous sections, you have been commenting upon the project development. The
evaluation may include some similar information but it will also include critical comment.
An evaluation must include information about the good and bad points of the project and it
is important to be honest. Finally, you should make a judgment about the effectiveness of
the success of the project
13. What were the good points about the project/task and what did you
learn from them?
⢠I used glitch and grain effects on some clips so I learnt how to do
those properly.
⢠I was really happy with the sound effects I used in the film they were
simple but very effective.
14. What challenges did you face and how did you
respond to them? Try and think of at least 3...
⢠I didn't want to go outside in the cold to film for the project, to solve
this I changed my idea so I could stay inside
⢠The space I filmed most of the film in was very small as it was filmed
in my shower so it was hard to get good shots at the angles I wanted
them to be. To fix this I would film some parts over the top of the
shower and make the footage black and white so help hide parts of
the shower if they were showing.
⢠I wasnât able to download a YouTube video that I needed on to the
computer so I had to download the video to my phone then upload it
to one drive so I could use it.
15. What were the negative points about the
experience, and what could you have done to
improve them?
⢠The project was very confusing at the start especially during the
group project half, Scott explained it better which helped me to
understand.
⢠Trying to film in a shower was very uncomfortable for the actress so I
put down a duvet on the floor to make it more comfortable for her.
16. How would you rate the final piece? [think along the lines of
poor, satisfactory, good or excellent...justify your rating]
⢠Think my piece was good, I think I edited the video well, had good
shot variations, the sound effects fit with video and helped make the
video anxiety inducing, I was also very happy with the way I
edited/the effects I put onto the tv interview. I think I could have had
better camera work so the shots were less shakey and I think the
colour grading could have been better as some scenes the lighting
changes.
17. What is your opinion of your final piece? What
elements do you think are successful and why?
⢠I think I edited the video well I was really happy when I got the grain
effect right on the CCTV footage because that took me a while to get
it to look how I wanted it to. I had good shot variations so the same
scene didnât cary on for too long. The sound effects fit with video and
helped make the video anxiety inducing. I also Thought the editing on
the TV interview was successful because it took me a while to get the
footage to glitch but also still clearly that it was a TV interview.
18. How did you design apeal to your target
audience?
⢠My target audience was the alternative community in York especially
alternative teens. My horror movie appealed to that target audience
because the vast majority of alternative people are really into the
horror genre making my film interesting to them.
19. Analysis
In this section, you will focus on the details of the project and make
sense of what happened in the project. You should demonstrate how
your decisions informed the project development and the success of the
outcome.
20. In what ways was the overall project a
success?
⢠I think I did my best editing work I have ever done in this project so
that was a big success for me. Evan also did a really good job with the
acting which helped a lot to have a good actress. Another success was
that I was able to take one small idea like 'isolationâ and turn it into a
good short film that has a story line.
21. What elements did not go well and why?
⢠Making the credits at the end did not go well
because I did them but had used the wrong
effect for me to be able to change the font and
things like that so I had to redo the whole end
credits. Trying to set up to film was a big
struggle especially for the CCTV footage I tried
many different ways to get the camera to stay
in the top corner of the shower but I couldnât
get it to stay so I ended up making a makeshift
tripod out of a metal straw so that I could
reach to hold it over the top of the shower. This is a picture of me trying to
make a shelf out of a how the
Grinch stole Christmas dvd for the
camera to sit on
22. What meaning and messages did you want to
convey and were you successful?
⢠The whole theme of my movie was isolation so the message I was
trying to get across was to show the effects that the lockdowns have
had on people and their mental health especially for people who are
alone with no one else at home for company.
23. What would you do differently in the future
and why?
⢠I think I would try find a better location for filming because it was a
very small space so was very hard to film in making it even harder to
get the shots that I wanted.
⢠If I did this again I would add in more creative artistic shots like the
ones with the sheet and the double exposure heads, I want to do
more shots like that because they were fun to film and they were the
coolest part of the film.
24. What knowledge have you gained that would help you in the
future to improve your project? Also, what knowledge from
academic literature and professionals has helped and why?
⢠I learnt how to put text on to a video properly so I can change the
font ant text size because the way I was doing it before wasnât the
right way
⢠I learned that itâs easier to take a very simple idea like the theme of
isolation and expand it turning into a good film instead of having lots
of ideas that are all over the place.
25. Action Plan
This section will identify what you would do differently in the future and
identify ways you could develop.
26. If you were making a similar project in the
future, what would you do differently?
⢠I would definitely and mor artsy shots in there because they looked
the coolest and most freaky.
⢠I would also want to make it longer that 1 minute because there are
some things I filmed and didnât get to use so that it fit in the time
limit
27. How could you develop your skills for future projects? Please
identify the appropriate resources and courses. For example,
webpages, tutorials, books, short courses and qualifications.
⢠In September I will be going to Manchester metropolitan university,
there I will be taking their filmmaking course this will expand my
knowledge of film and everything it involves like camera work, audio,
colour grading and editing. In my 3rd year of uni I hope to spend the
year studying media again in Sydney Australia.
28. What personal attributes could you develop to
ensure you are working at a professional level?
⢠Make sure I am organising by having plans, timetables, deadlines and
sticking to them
⢠Be open to new ideas and compromise
⢠Have backup plans incase things fall through
