(eyes, finger, ears, etc.).
Structures: present simple in first personsingular.
Skills: speaking, listening and writing.
Function: expressing ability. Asking and answering about what they can/cannot
do.
Age: primary 9-10
Time: 45 minutes.
Materials:
✦ Whiteboard and markers.
✦ Worksheet.
Introduction:
In this class we will continue working with can/can’t. Children will be reinforcing
vocabulary for different actions. There will be a words game, mimic and a dare game
so that students can strengthen their vocabulary and CAN/CAN’T structures. Since the
last class we couldn’t do the writing and mimic game, I will do them today, Friday.
2. Procedure:
1- Starting the class (5 min): At the beginning of the class we will ask a student
to deliver the badges with the pupils’ names to his/her classmates and we will take
down note of the absent students.
2- Warm-up (10 min): To start the class, we will be doing a mimic game in which
we will be performing some actions such as swim, fly, wink, run, etc. Before we
present this game, we will write the actions on the board and retrieve their meaning
from the pupils. Then, we will use mimic to represent these words for completing a
grid on the white board. This activity aims to review vocabulary that we will be
working with in the following tasks.
3- Prove it! (15 min): This will be an activity for warming-up CAN/CAN’T. We
will ask the students to perform physical actions they can do. To do this, we will dare
them to do a specific action (e.g. Can you wink with your left and right eye?). After
the question, we will give students the chance to answer “Yes, l can” or “No, l can’t”.
If they say yes, we will tell them “Prove it!” so that they will have to perform the
action. All the verbs used in this activity will be reviewed in the previous one.
4- Writing (10 min): we will ask the pupils to complete the worksheet that we
will give them. In this activity, they will have to complete some sentences according
to what they can or cannot do. Then we will ask them to hand in the worksheets so that
we can correct them at home.
5- Mimic game (5 min): to finish with this class, we will play a mimic game.
Students will have to guess what actions the teacher is representing and say “The
teacher can’t write”, “The teacher can jump”, etc. With this activity we plan to
reinforce all the vocabulary seen through the whole lesson.
