Introduction:
In this lesson we will keep working with the simple present in third person
singular with the verb LIKE. In this case we will be working together with
our mentor teacher Romina Cheme and Jasmine Kendall (a student from
England) in an intercultural project which consists in exchanging some
2. personal preferences about the English culture and the Argentinian one.
The students will have to listen to Jasmin’s presentation, so that they can
later ask her questions of their own. Finally, learners will have to use both
the cultural information taken from Jasmine and theirs, in order to complete
the activities.
Procedure:
1-Preparation (10min): After the break, we will take both classes (5°C
and 5°D) to the library where all the students will be together, listening to
Jasmine’s presentation and solving activities later on.
2- Presentation (15 mins): Jasmine will present a PowerPoint in which she
includes some information about her home, family, LIKES and DISLIKES
about her culture and her country (geography, food, landmarks, sports).
3- Interview (15 mins): Then 10 pupils, chosen by us, will have to ask her
using the structure “Do you like…?” about one Argentinian iconic cultural
element (Dulce de Leche, asado, etc) that they had previously chosen and
drawn on their notebooks. Then, they will have to write the questions down
in a photocopy together with the answer, using either a tick if the answer is
positive or a cross if the answer is negative.
4- Writing sentences (20 mins): At this point, the students will have to
produce the sentences according to what Jasmine has answered using the
structure “She likes/doesn’t like…” in their notebooks.
5- Correction (10 mins): After the students have finished the sentences,
we will correct them altogether so that everyone has the answers.
6- Extra questions (20 mins): We will leave the remaining minutes for
pupils to ask other questions that they may be curious about or to just chat
with her. This last “activity” aims to let the pupils get to know Jasmine a
little bit better and also so that the atmosphere gets loose and more
comfortable for them. To end the class we will all thank Jasmine for the
visit.
