Teaching approach: My lesson plan is based on the PPP method and the
communicative approach.
Integration of skills: What skills will be integrated and
how?Communicative skills will be developed through interaction.
Students will develop listening and speaking skills by listening to the
teacher and repeating. Reading and writing skills will be also developed by
answering questions and writing texts.
Materials and resources: I’ll use flashcards and photocopies.
Pedagogical use of ICT in class or at home: I won’t use ICT on this lesson
because as it is the last lesson I want to do something different so I tried to
save time for students to make a project about themselves at the closure
stage. I think this project can make them feel motivated.
Seating arrangement: At the beginning of the lesson students will be on
their usual seats. Then I’ll ask them to sit all together and I’ll sit with them
to do the different activities.
Assessment: what will be assessed and how: I’ll monitor all my students
through the lesson and I’ll check whether if they understand what I say or
not. I’lltry to make them repeat the different patterns and encourage them
to use the chunks meaningfully. Although they are in 5th grade they are
beginners and they don’t speak English. Their teacher doesn’t speak
English in the lessons so they don’t understand the language. According to
this, I’ll try to use gestures as much as possible to help them understand.
Warm up (10 minutes)
Purpose: To begin the lesson and create a comfortable atmosphere; to introduce
the students to the topic.
The students will enter the classroom and I’ll greet them. “Good morning! How
are you?”. We’ll sit in group as the previous lessons. In order to reactivate
students’ previous knowledge I’ll use some flashcards and I’ll make some
questions about animals “OK kids, do you remember what animals can do? Can the
3. cat fly?” I’ll show them the cat flashcard and I’ll do the flying gesture. Students
will answer “No, it can’t”. I’ll do this with two or three animals so student can
revise the vocabulary they learn in the previous lesson.
Transition: “Ok, now let’s read about pets! Have you got pets?”
Presentation (10 minutes)
Purpose: To Expose the students to the language; to enhance students’
communicative skills and to develop or improve comprehensive skills.
At this stage I’ll give each student a photocopy I which they will find two kids
talking about their pets and their abilities. I’ll read the texts while pointing the
pictures and making different gestures so I help the students understand what
the texts say. After reading the texts I’ll ask some questions so we can check
comprehension. “Ok! What animal is Vicky’s pet?” students will answer “It’s a
dog!” so I’ll ask “What can dogs do?” students will answers that dogs can run and
jump and I’ll ask again “What can’t dogs do?” So students can say what they can’t
do. To help students with the meaning of can and can’t I’ll write the sentences on
the blackboard and I’ll highlight the words. I’ll do this q&a with both texts.
- Dogs can run and jump
- Dogs can’t sing or climb
- Fish can swim and jump
- Fish can’t stomp or fly
Transition:
“Well done!
Now let’s see
4. what other animals can or can’t do”
Development (15 minutes)
Purpose: to develop communicative skills; to foster interaction and to check
students’ knowledge of new vocabulary.
On this activity students will have to work with a worksheet in which they will
have to write sentences about animals using can and can’t. “Ok everyone! You
have to make sentences about what these animals can and can’t do, ok? Look at the
example” I’ll point the example and I’ll write it on the board again if necessary.
“Let’s work!”
Transition: “Well done kids! Now it’s your turn! You will introduce your pets and
tell something about them”
Closure (25 minutes)
Purpose: to raise students’ motivation.
5. Project!
At this stage students will have to make a poster about their own pets. They
will have to use the texts in the presentation stage as example and they will
have to put their creativity into practice to draw themselves with their pets.
“Well kids, you have to make a beautiful poster about your pets! What pet have
you got? Have you got cats, dogs, fish? Let’s create a colorful poster!”
After the kids finish the poster we will stick them on the classroom’s walls or
even on the hall’s walls so the rest of the students in the school can see what
they have done.
As it is the last lesson I’ll share with them I’l give them a little present and thank
them and their teachers for this great experience.
“We did a great job together, thank you very much for everything! See you soon!
Bye bye”
