Mood board- Idea 1
Mood board- Idea 2
Mood Board - Conclusions
• I created two different types of mood boards which display the different styles of rock. On
the first mood board I have presented the idea of using the Indie rock theme. I have chosen
many relevant images such as the palm trees and the tropical colours to represent indie rock.
I have also selected a band called The Coasts because I personally have a family friend, James,
who plays the bass guitar for them. This is an advantage because it means that I can access
information about what kind of audience and genre the band attracts. I can also get
information about what James thinks as a professional musician and his views on my music
magazine and its content.
• On the second mood board I have changed the style of rock to present a different idea that
could also work for my magazine. The mood board is based on the heavy metal bands by
adding images of what they look like. As you can see from the images they have a completely
different style to the indie rock. This means that if I choose this type of rock for my magazine
I would have to make this magazine have much darker colours with more older appropriate
images. This is due to the style of heavy rock being a lot more crazy and wild than the other
types of rock. I hope I have translated this in the mood board as the bands normally wear
make up and have piercings
Mind Map 1
Rock sound
Aimed at people who
like indie rock so age
15 plus.
Content is going to cover the
gigs and interview from the
latest artists.
The front page will
feature the chosen
band to interview
Bold colours for
the mast head
with a blank colour
background that
makes the text
stand out.
The magazine will be sold every month so
that the magazine can have a month to
gather more information and content
The target audience will be aimed at
people who like to dance. I have contacted
a band member who will be featuring in
my magazine. Here I have the evidence to
prove.
Mind Map 2
Rock sound
This genre is going to be
based on the more rock
version of music instead of
my previous idea which was
based on the indie rock.
The colour scheme of the
magazine will feature
more wild colours such as
bright red with a black
back ground.
The font style of
the magazine
would look wild
instead of the
indie look that
would tend to be
more of a simple
font
The target audience
would be aimed at
rock fans between
teen and mid 20
years. This is due to
the music bands
inspired fans to wear
different types of rock
fashion such as
piercings and make
up.
The masthead name will
be rock related in terms
of the heavy metal such
as mad rock returns.
The magazine will be sold
monthly. This is due to the
magazine gathering more
content over the month to
make the magazine better.
The main image on
the front cover will
feature the monthly
band that the
magazine interviews.
Font styles
Final font style Choice
Fonts
• Below you can see the main font style that I have selected for my final
choice. This is the blue and green that gets mixed together to make the
sea effect. On the magazine I have cropped out the edges to make sure
that the design is kept looking interesting to look at.
Colour
• I chosen the colours based on the genre of the music, indie rock is based
on tropical colours, the sea is part of the tropical picture. The main colour
of the front page is green/ blue mixed together. Based on the colour of the
sea.
• The denotation of the colour is for the coasts sea. The Coast is open and
wild, this connotes the music genre for the magazine.
Masthead – Final Idea
Here is the final idea for the masthead, I have been inspired to use the similar design to
what the Coasts use for there album. The text makes it look like its in a tropical
atmosphere. The back ground gives out a ocean colour effect with the font style
looking very smart and simple. Below I have taken a screen shot of what their album
colours and font style look like. I have then gone onto a cool text website and chosen a
similar font style and colours to the album cover of the coasts.
Masthead – Ideas
• I am going to relate the masthead to the band that I am going to feature in my
magazine called The Coasts. As I have mentioned previously in the slide I have a
family friend in the band. I was able to ask James Gamage the bass guitarist some
questions about the music magazine and how his music would fit in. I asked what
genre would you class your music. James then explained what he thinks the genre
of the music is. At the end of the message James then said that “ as long as we
make people dance we are happy” so this gave me the idea of naming the
magazine ROCK DANCE. This is then linked with the ROCK SOUND magazine that I
have been studying and the band I am going to feature.
• I had also come up with the idea of calling the magazine
rocking sun as this brings the indie rock culture into the
picture. As the music is partly tropical the sun can
represent the tropical music along with the rocking.
This is then linked with the genre of my music magazine.

Rough sketches
The main image in this rough sketch
has more than one artist which
decreases the size of the image.
This is due to there being more
people on the main image.
Headline is linked to the
magazines genre. It also links to
the head mast. The dance that
the magazine want to promote.
I have changed the colour
of the back ground half way
down the page to make the
front cover more
presentable,
Rough sketches DPS
Using the black back ground
makes the main image stand
out.
For my second DPS I have
switched the colours around.
This is so that the text now will
come up bold along with the
black back ground. The main
image is on a white back
ground to contrast the colours
to engage the reader into
something more interesting.
Final Draft Front cover
Dark blue to
indicate the sky

Flat Plan
Photography plan
• The pictures on the following slide show you the kind of
images that will be featured within the photo shoot.
• The genre of my music magazine is indie rock. This is a stereo
typical classic rock theme. This involves leather jackets,
sunglasses and greased hair.
Prop Tests
• I have used cameras to take the photos for the plan.
• For the real photo shoot I used my I phone 5C to take the
pictures of the people that I wanted to appear on the front
cover.

Office Space
• I have chosen this office space for
my magazine in Sheffield. This is
because this office space is outside
of London. This means that
the rent for the office space
will be a lot more cheaper.
• The office will give me
Located on the ground
floor of this office

space for the computers and
the printers that I need to
have in the office.

Production Plan
Post production
• For the magazine that I had created I had used the programme called phot shop.
This is owned by adobe CS5.1, this is the best to used when making the magazine
as you have all the tools that you need to make the images big or small.
• The colour tools allowed me to get the correct colour scheme for the magazines
front page along with the double page spread. It allowed me to make the colours
contrast as they met on the front cover. This make a good effect and makes the
magazine look very smart.
• The crop tool I had used allowed me to be able to make the size of the image big
or small at all different angles. Parts of the image I didn’t want in my magazine so I
used the crop tool to cut it out. This then left me with the image that I wanted.
Legal and Ethical
• When producing the magazine there are many things that have to be considered before we
can start to sell the magazines.
• Copyright is the main issue within the magazine industry today. Infringement of Copyright is
illegal because in basic terms it means that you are stealing media pictures or even text from
sources that are not owned by you. For example taking a picture of a celebrity and not asking
for permission would be classed as copyright.
• Copy and pasting text from an online magazine and then putting it in your magazine would
then be classed as infringement of copyright. The ethical issues that stand today within the
magazine is to do with race. For example if you put on the front cover of your magazine an
image of a white or black person and then used words that become offensive to the race,
then this would be illegal. People could become offended and then have the right to sue the
magazine. Any company that produce material similar to my magazine have to tread carefully
to avoid possible litigation.

Press complaints commission
Here you are also allowed to be able to make the complaints about what
the magazine has In anyway had any offence on you. They deal with
things such as the pictures, text and even colour for the magazine. This is
where I made my complaint about the magazine about. They then
explain when you will hear back from them and talk about how they are
able to deal with the situation. This is based In the UK and as I have sown
it is free to use online.

Conclusion- LO1
• I have produced some pre production materials that will make up the design of my
music magazine. I have made some designs within this LO to help give me a good
idea of what house style colours and fonts I want to use throughout the magazine.
I have completed a production plan to show how my magazine will be produced
day by day. This includes the equipment costs that I have researched to give me an
idea of what it will cost me.

• The location where the shoot will take place will be at St
Andrews school. It is accessible for us as we are students of
the school. The school has an outdoor area where the shoot
can be held. There are many hazards within this photoshoot
for example hazards such as children obstructing the shoot.
This would be against the child protection act. You must not
take pictures of children without the parents or guardians
permission.
Location Recce

This is an image taken of
where I will be taking my
photoshoot.
In this shoot the hazards will
be children walking across the
playground during the shoot.
This is a hazard because of the
child protection act.
You cannot take a picture of a
young child without parent
permission. So I need to make
sure this shoot is out of school
hours.

Location Recce Permission
For my photoshoot I will need to obtain permission from the Head Master to
use the playground. In the screen shot below you can see the e mail I have
sent regarding the permission to use the playground. I will then need a reply
in writing or via an email to confirm I can proceed.

Legal and Ethical
• The style of the magazine is based on rock. For the images in
the book and the interview with James Gamage, I have made
sure no tattoos are present in the shoot. The tattoos may be
found offensive to the readers. This may be due to the ethical
background they come from. This prevents anyone making
complaints on IPSO.
Intellectual Property
• Intellectual Property law makes sure the design of
my magazine has been protected. This includes the
colours and patterns I use in the magazine.
• This will stop other people from copying my
magazine style, as the legislation protects it.

ectual-property-office
HSE
• The Health and Safety Policy is based around using the
printing machines for the magazines. This is where most the
accidents take place. 22% of trips and slips are by the
machinery.
• The risk assessment will help prevent accidents caused by the
hazards. This means making sure that the staff have the
correct equipment when using machines, Such as gloves and
goggles.
• Source : http://www.hse.gov.uk/printing/index.htm
Copy right
• To make sure that my magazine does not have any
copy right issues I am going to make sure that it is
written on the front page of the magazine.
• It will say [COPYRIGHT OWNER’S NAME] all Rights
Reserved. This means I have obtained the trade mark
and no one can take the idea and use it.

Health and Safety at Work Act 1974
• The health and safety at work act will need to be
displayed on the walls in the office. This ensures
people at work are safe and are not at of risk of
getting hurt in the office. This legislation ensures
training on how to lift heavy boxes should be taken
place. This then will reduce the risk of workers being
injured.

Legal and ethical issues
Intellectual property (IP)
• IP is a term used which refers to the creation of the intellect, for
which a monopoly is assigned to designated owners by law.
• When a person invents or creates something, they are entitled to
own the IP.
• Some common types of intellectual property rights (IPR) are
copyright, patents, and design rights. IPR also covers the rights that
protect trademarks. IPR can cover music, literature, and other
artistic works; discoveries and inventions; words, phrases, symbols,
and designs.
Copyright and Trade marks
• When a piece of work is created by someone, they have the right to own
it and stop it being copied. The owner of the copyright has the exclusive
right to make copies, license, and otherwise exploit a literary, musical, or
artistic work, whether printed, audio, video, etc. Original works created
today are protected for the lifetime of the author or creator and for a
period of 50 years after his or her death. For example you cant take
someone's song that they have written and then make another version of
it without the creators permission. The original artists has the right to own
it and therefore cant be taken.
• Trade marks are logos or words that specifically identify anything. Once a
trademark has been produced and registered, they belong to the
business. If the trade mark has been made and then registered and
checked it will then have a ‘®’on top of the trade mark. In the magazine
industry making sure that you have all the rights covered is important.
The law is in place to make sure that the magazine will not lose the
money because of other magazine’s taking the originals magazines idea.

•
The magazine (See image above) is a registered trademark name so use of the identity would require permission from the
institution and publisher.
Copyright and Trade marks
•
• Rights cover: The law gives the creators of literary, dramatic, musical, artistic works,
sound recordings, broadcasts, films and typographical arrangement of published
editions, rights to control the ways in which their material may be used. The rights
cover; broadcast and public performance, copying, adapting, issuing, renting and
lending copies to the public. In many cases, the creator will also have the right to be
identified as the author and to object to distortions of his work.
• International conventions give protection in most countries, subject to national laws.
Types of work protected:
1. Literary song lyrics, manuscripts, manuals, computer programs, commercial
documents, leaflets, newsletters & articles etc.
2. Artistic photography, painting, sculptures, architecture, technical
drawings/diagrams, maps, logos.
3. Typographical arrangement of published editions magazines, periodicals, etc.
• The Copyright (Computer Programs) Regulations 1992 extended the rules covering
literary works to include computer programs.
• The magazine would have to ensure that they do not inform any laws above.
• Source- https://www.copyrightservice.co.uk/copyright/intellectual_property
Legal and Ethical
• When producing my magazine there are many things that the magazine has to be
aware of before I can start to sell the publications.
• Copyright is the main issue within the magazine industry today. Copyright is illegal
because in basic terms it means that you are stealing media pictures or even text
from other sources of the media. For example taking a picture of a celebrity and not
asking for permission would be classed as breach of copyright.
• Copying and pasting text from an online magazine and then putting it in your
magazine would also be classed as breach of copyright. This can be addressed by
using an embedded watermark so that anything copied from the internet cannot be
reproduced without this watermark.
• Within my magazine I also need to aware of any content that could be considered
discriminatory or politically incorrect. The ethical issues in todays society are mostly
around race and equality, For example if you put on the front cover of a magazine a
white or black individual, and then use wording that could be considered offensive,
this could be legally challenged. People can be offended and may sue the magazine.
• My magazine will have to be very careful what we are writing to avoid any legal
action.
Source: https://www.gov.uk/government/consultations/copyright
Legal Process
• How do I register copyright, trademarks – process and forms to complete
• If you are looking to make sure that you have a legal trademark registered
you have to log on to an internet website, this website is called the
Trademarkhub. They have a 99% success rate which means that they have
had successful trade marks that have been registered.
• Source: http://landing.thetrademarkhub.com/?gclid=CP-2j9mB1MkCFUGVGwodBE4PFw
Data protection act
• The Data Protection Act prevents the personal information used for the
magazine. This legislation came into force in the year 1998. This is an act
of parliament that will follow procedures to keep personal data safe from
other people using it. It provides a way for you to be in control of who sees
the data for the magazine.
• Source : https://www.gov.uk/data-protection/the-data-protection-act
Influence on Individuals, Mass
Audience
• Within the magazine that I have chosen called Rock sound. There
are many images in the magazine that have the impact on the
audience. Most of the influences are based on the guitars and make
up that many of the rock star effect. The content talks about the
gigs that mainly take place but that is not the main attraction
because many people who are into the rock all ready go to gigs.
• The magazine talks about how the rock music has been produced so
therefore influence the audience to understand how the music is
made and in a way what goes on behind the scene. How the stars
get their make up on, where they get there guitars from. They all
have the influence on the audience then going to do their make up
and hair the same way that the rock stars do there's.
Influence on Individuals, Mass
Audience
• The magazine shows you double page spread of the rock
bans with their make up so then seeing that with the hair
and the funny make up would then have the impact on the
fans of the band to be the same. As the rock members of
the magazine are also known as role models. The fans look
up to them as being celebrity's therefore being the best at
the music that are in which the audience are fans of.
• There are some negative effects on the audience because
the magazine doesn’t give the audience the content about
the back ground behind the stars. How they got this stage
to become the famous people. All the magazine shows you
is the images of the band and then the content talks about
how the stars make the music. But doesn’t really tell you
about the back ground of the band.
Influence on Individuals, Mass
Audience
• This could then have an impact on the audience because they would want
to follow the stars but not know how they then maintain and get to the
stage they are at. So they end up looking like the band members but still
having the simple job that they have. The behaviours of the audience
changes due to the performance norms. http://education-
portal.com/academy/lesson/how-types-of-group-norms-influence-
individual-behavior.html#lesson
Water Marks
• This is when a piece of work created by someone has the right to own it and therefore cant
be copied. For example you cant take someone's song that they had written and then make
another version of it. The original artists has the right to own it and therefore cant be taken.
If this is the case of taking a song then selling it the artists then has the right to take the legal
action that is required.
• Source- https://www.copyrightservice.co.uk/copyright/intellectual_property
IP Permission for Logos
• Within my magazine there will be social media logos placed around, this will be to
help promote my magazine on social media and encourage viral marketing. To use
a social media logo that isn't legally mine I have to either buy the rights to have it
or ask permission. If I used Facebooks ident without permission I would then be
facing fines and possibly prison. directly to see if I'm allowed to use their logo in
my magazine.
How to get Permission to use
Facebook’s Logo
Because I am having the Facebook logo in my magazine I need to get some
permission to use it. To do this you simply type into Google “permission to use
Facebook’s logo”. This will then take you to a page as displayed below on the left
hand side of the slide. You must first choose an option for how you would like to
use the logo. For example, having it downloaded online or having it printed off.
The next step is to read the guide lines that have been written out by Facebook.
The guidelines explain what you can do and what you cant do with the logo.
Once you have read this information you are able to download the logo by
clicking download.
Source: https://www.facebookbrand.com
Register Trade Mark
• If you have made a design or a logo and what to legally own it you have to register
it on the www.GOV.uk website. The government have a intellectual property office
to assess your application. The office will be able to tell you if the application you
have sent them meets the rules for the registration. This is where I will need to
send my music magazine Rock Dance off to. The cost of this registration will cost
£170. If the application then meets the rules and regulations then the government
will send you the rights for you to own the trade mark. This will mean no one can
legally copy my logo design.

IPSO
• This is a company that handles complaints about the media that may in any way have offended
you in any w ay of from. This could be classed as being racist or even being too stereo typical
toward people . IPSO give you the voice so that you can be heard for the complaints' because of
it being a huge company. They offer you the guidance and support for your concern about the
editors that you have been offended by. You have to fill out this form that you provide online so
that they know what they are dealing with online before that go through the process of the
complaints. They are based within the UK and are only there for the public. The overall objective
for this company is to make sure that the media have the standards at the correct level for the
public. Bellow is the screen shot of the website and the information that I used for this
assignment.
• 1. Initial assessment
2. Referral to the publication
3. The investigation
4. Adjudication by the Complaints Committee
5. Remedies
6. Review of the process
7. Complaints which are not pursued
8. Unacceptable behaviour by complainants and vexatious
complaints
https://www.ipso.co.uk/IPSO/index.html
IPSO- Codes to consider
• Accuracy- when I publish my magazine I need to make sure that the
information that has been published is accurate. This will include information
such as publishing wrong GIG dates in the magazine. People would then go to
the IPSO website to make an complaint about the incorrect date.
• Confidential sources- The journalists for my magazine need to make sure
that they are getting the correct information from reliable sources. For
example when interviewing a band member. The journalist has to make sure
that the band member is the actual band member.
• Financial journalism-”Even where the law does not prohibit it, journalists
must not use for their own profit financial information they receive in advance
of its general publication, nor should they pass such information to others”
This means that the money that is being made for the interview goes to the
magazine and not individual staff.
• Source : https://www.ipso.co.uk/IPSO/cop.html
Making a Complaint
• When you want to make a complaint you must go online to a website called
https://www.ipso.co.uk/oxbxApps/app/complaint1.html . This website deals
with all magazine publishing complaints. They ask you to fill out a few
questions to see how the codes have been breached in the complaint you
have made. They then make you upload a file to show your complaint. This
can be done through a JPG,PNG,PDF or DOCX.
Potential complaints being made
about Rock Dance
Potential complaints that could
be made about my magazine
could be the use of accuracy in
the interview. The magazine says
that the featured rocks album
will be released by Christmas.
But in the interview the rock star
says that it wont be released till
the summer. This can annoy
people as the magazine is
therefore not accurate. This
against one of the codes by IPSO.
People would then complain to
IPSO saying my magazine is not
accurate in what it says about
the release of a music album.
Conclusion- LO2
• Within this LO I have asses the risks that could potential be in the way for
my magazine. I have assed all the legal and ethical issues that are related
to the magazine. I have explained in detail the steps that you need to take
when you are making a complaint about a magazine. Screen shots display
what research I have made. I have covered a the copyright laws and codes
that I need to consider when producing my magazine.

taking a photo. This will give me a still and
higher quality photo that looks level.

Photography Plan
Within this document I have print screened I have shown the detail for the
photography plan. This includes
• Location
• Clothing
• Weather conditions
Test Photography
• For my test photography I had to make sure that I had taken many different images
to illustrate what kind of style and genre I am trying to promote for my music
magazine. This links to the production plan that I have created. This would come
under the stage content acquisition.

Operating DTP Tools
• To get the image you want this screen
shot shows how I will get the image
onto the canvas.
Operating DTP Tools
Within the select lines is the
image to be used. You can use
the resizing tool which allows
you to change the size and
angle of the image. You can
then also click on the image
and press control T, which gives
you the access to the sizing
tool.
Quick Selection Tool
The Quick selection tool allows me to be able to select
round a certain image that you have selected. As you can
see from the screen shot I have taken of my photo shop
image, I have used the quick selection tool to go around
the edges of the image. The tool can pick out the
different colours and tones that are used in the image.
This will then crop out the background of the image and
present it in the desired format .The tool will now select
the pixels around the image that is not needed and then
deleted. This tool is very effective and quick to use for
cropping out the backgrounds image.
Operating DTP Tools
Here I used the eye dropper tool to
select the correct colour for my images
and text boxes.
All the images have exactly the same
colour to look formal.
Free Transform
Here is an example of how I re size the
images, To get to this stage you must have
the image selected. You can then push
control T. the lines asset me to change
the size I wish to obtain.
Free Transform
Here you can see the corners of the image. To then re size the image
you must hover over on of the corners ,then click and drag the image to
the size you require.
Step by Step Photoshop FC
• 1. background- used the bucket tool with a blue colour
• 2. Barcode section – imported a barcode picture by going file
place. Made a white shape for the background. Used the text
tool to add in information such as what issue it was. Added
social media icons.
Step by Step Photoshop FC
• 3. Created a puff promotion banner at the top of my page
using the shape tool “free COAST CD+POSTER”.
• 4. Added in mast head+ cover lines by using the ruler and text
tool.
• 5. added in my main image, by using the quick selection tool
to cut out the background. I used command T on the
keyboard to resize the image.
Step by Step Photoshop FC
• 6. finally I then in other pictures by going to
file place. For example , I added in an
advertisement picture to include in the cover
line.
Step by step DPS
• 1. I added in the background, using shapes as well.
• 2. Divided by canvas into two pages.
• 3. Masthead was placed on the canvas using colour effects.
• 4. I then added in the columns using the ‘pen tool’ (P) to
integrate the text around features such as the drop capital.
Step by step DPS
• 5. Page number was placed at the bottom of the canvas in the
bottom corners.
• 6. I have now added in the main head line and quote for the
story that is being featured in the magazine about an artists.
• 7. finally I had made sure that I included a drop capital at the
beginning of the story.
Step by step DPS
• 8. I then pasted my interview into the canvas from word. I
resized the text and then made sure that the text fitted the
columns.
• 9. For the final touches I placed my images of the artist on the
canvas.

Conclusion- LO3
• For this LO I have produced materials for a media based product which is
my music magazine. I have included into this LO a step by step guide on
how I produced my photo shop front cover and double page spread. They
include a detailed step by step explaining what kind of tools that I have
used to produce the work. Screen shots have been taken to show what the
tools have done to certain images on my magazine to make them stand
out. Test photography has been included which shows you what kinds of
shots I had taken for my magazine pages.

Post production software
I used Photo Shop in my production as this was the best
programme to use tools that they provide you with. It had all
the tools I needed to produce the magazine.
Photo shop
• To get the image you want onto the
canvas you use the place tool as the
screen shots show. Click file then place.
You will then have the option of being
able to select the image you want.
Pen Tool
• This is the called the pen tool, I used the tool to wrap text around my drop capital I
used on my DPS. I had to first select the pen tool then click points around the drop
capital. Once the shape had been made for the text I then joined the last point to
the first point which the made a text box wrapped around the drop capital. The
drop capital was used at the beginning of the interview on the double page
spread.
Deadlines
• I have met most deadlines which
have been put into place. Others
met at a later stage due to
further corrections that have
been made. You can see from the
spread sheet with the corrections
on, I had to complete. The red
text shows that I have incomplete
work. The green shows I have
completed the work.
Before and After
Safe working practice
When taking images for the front cover and DPS I had to take into
consideration the risks of taking the image and also editing the image.
Software Risk Assessment (Photoshop)
I also had to take into consideration the resizing of an image. I wanted
high professional images I made sure I took quite a few to choose
from and I made sure there were no risks involved in the location
where I took the images. The images did not pixilate on Photoshop.
Each time I resized an image I pressed command T and made sure I
held down shift whilst resizing the image. By doing this it made sure
the image was not distorted. .
Masthead – Font Styles
• My Mast Head is going to be kept looking smart , bold and simple with a hint of
tropical. Bellow are some ideas of how I am going to convert the tropical ocean ,
smart, bold and simple look. The back ground represents the ocean and tropical
colours. This then relates to the indie tropical rock genre that I am going to feature
in the magazine.
Fonts
For my font styles I used a website called “Cool Text". This website gives you the
choice of many different types of font styles to choose from. You have to do is select
the font style you want then type in your logo text. This font is then given to you
copyright free, This is displayed in the screen shot below as you are able to download
the font to your user area. This will be then saved as a JPEG onto your user area. This
then allowed me to be able to place the font into the Photoshop.
Source:
http://cooltext.com
I have taken a screen
shot of the websites
address below
telling me that it is a
FREE graphics
generator for web
pages.
Masthead – Final Idea
Here is the final idea for the masthead, I have been inspired to use the similar design to
style the Coasts use for their album. The text looks like its in a tropical atmosphere.
The back ground gives out a ocean colour effect with the font style looking very smart
and simple as this type of rock is more calmer than other types of rock, such as heavy
metal. Bellow I have taken a screen shot of their album colours and font style. I then
went onto a cool text website and chosen a similar font style and colours to the album
cover of The Coasts.
House Style
House Styles
Colour- Swatches
• When using Photo Shop for my magazine I had to pick colours to give the magazine a
good brand identity. Theses colours were important to be chosen correctly due to the
consistency across all of the pages in the magazine. The colour scheme will reflect on
the brand identity for future issues. The band that I am featuring in my magazine called
the COASTS colour scheme inspired me to use similar colours. I used the ‘eye dropper
tool’ (i) on the COASTS album cover. From the screen shot below you can see the colour
swatches I used for the DPS in Photoshop. I used green, blue and white in different
tones. This suited the genre of my music magazine which is INDIE ROCK.
Final Pages- DPS
Here I have
placed the
magazines name
in front of the
DPS back ground.
Colum's have been placed using
the pen tool.Drop Capital placed at the
beginning of the interview.
Main
Headline
placed in
a colour
box to
make it
look
bold.
Page number placed
at the bottom of the
page.
Main image is placed
in the centre to show
who’s been featured
in the magazine.
Final Pages- Front Cover
Masthead is placed
behind the main
image to make the
artists look
important.
Main head line is
placed further down
the magazine page
with bold text to
attract the reader to
finding out what’s
inside of the
magazine.
Barcode is placed at the
bottom with social media
logos and magazine website
Free CD from the
featured band is
placed on the front
cover
Advertisement is
placed along the
left side of the
magazine
The Main image
is placed at the
centre of the
front cover in
front of the Mast
head.
Before and after
• The previous design was the design was not relevant
to the colour scheme which is blue. The old design
was based on the red scheme.
• I then changed the font style to follow the same style
to the Coasts.
Before and After
I have added in some social media logos (synergy) to promote my magazine
on different platforms such as Facebook. Twitter and Instagram. I have also
added in more pictures such as the background image of the guitar to fill
the space and give the audience an idea of what type of music ‘Coast Guard
Tim’ sings.
Conclusion- LO4
• Within this LO I have edited the materials that I have produced to be able
to produce a final media product. This includes what type of tools that I
had to use in photo shop to be able to edit my magazine pages. I have
produced screen shots and a detailed description of what they do and
how you use them. I have explained where I have got my font styles from
and made sure that they are copyright free. This had to be researched as a
good source of evidence. I have also explained what kind of colours I have
used in my magazine in terms of the brand identity and explained why
they are important.

  • 7. Mood Board - Conclusions • I created two different types of mood boards which display the different styles of rock. On the first mood board I have presented the idea of using the Indie rock theme. I have chosen many relevant images such as the palm trees and the tropical colours to represent indie rock. I have also selected a band called The Coasts because I personally have a family friend, James, who plays the bass guitar for them. This is an advantage because it means that I can access information about what kind of audience and genre the band attracts. I can also get information about what James thinks as a professional musician and his views on my music magazine and its content. • On the second mood board I have changed the style of rock to present a different idea that could also work for my magazine. The mood board is based on the heavy metal bands by adding images of what they look like. As you can see from the images they have a completely different style to the indie rock. This means that if I choose this type of rock for my magazine I would have to make this magazine have much darker colours with more older appropriate images. This is due to the style of heavy rock being a lot more crazy and wild than the other types of rock. I hope I have translated this in the mood board as the bands normally wear make up and have piercings
  • 8. Mind Map 1 Rock sound Aimed at people who like indie rock so age 15 plus. Content is going to cover the gigs and interview from the latest artists. The front page will feature the chosen band to interview Bold colours for the mast head with a blank colour background that makes the text stand out. The magazine will be sold every month so that the magazine can have a month to gather more information and content The target audience will be aimed at people who like to dance. I have contacted a band member who will be featuring in my magazine. Here I have the evidence to prove.
  • 9. Mind Map 2 Rock sound This genre is going to be based on the more rock version of music instead of my previous idea which was based on the indie rock. The colour scheme of the magazine will feature more wild colours such as bright red with a black back ground. The font style of the magazine would look wild instead of the indie look that would tend to be more of a simple font The target audience would be aimed at rock fans between teen and mid 20 years. This is due to the music bands inspired fans to wear different types of rock fashion such as piercings and make up. The masthead name will be rock related in terms of the heavy metal such as mad rock returns. The magazine will be sold monthly. This is due to the magazine gathering more content over the month to make the magazine better. The main image on the front cover will feature the monthly band that the magazine interviews.
  • 12. Fonts • Below you can see the main font style that I have selected for my final choice. This is the blue and green that gets mixed together to make the sea effect. On the magazine I have cropped out the edges to make sure that the design is kept looking interesting to look at.
  • 13. Colour • I chosen the colours based on the genre of the music, indie rock is based on tropical colours, the sea is part of the tropical picture. The main colour of the front page is green/ blue mixed together. Based on the colour of the sea. • The denotation of the colour is for the coasts sea. The Coast is open and wild, this connotes the music genre for the magazine.
  • 14. Masthead – Final Idea Here is the final idea for the masthead, I have been inspired to use the similar design to what the Coasts use for there album. The text makes it look like its in a tropical atmosphere. The back ground gives out a ocean colour effect with the font style looking very smart and simple. Below I have taken a screen shot of what their album colours and font style look like. I have then gone onto a cool text website and chosen a similar font style and colours to the album cover of the coasts.
  • 15.
  • 16. Masthead – Ideas • I am going to relate the masthead to the band that I am going to feature in my magazine called The Coasts. As I have mentioned previously in the slide I have a family friend in the band. I was able to ask James Gamage the bass guitarist some questions about the music magazine and how his music would fit in. I asked what genre would you class your music. James then explained what he thinks the genre of the music is. At the end of the message James then said that “ as long as we make people dance we are happy” so this gave me the idea of naming the magazine ROCK DANCE. This is then linked with the ROCK SOUND magazine that I have been studying and the band I am going to feature. • I had also come up with the idea of calling the magazine rocking sun as this brings the indie rock culture into the picture. As the music is partly tropical the sun can represent the tropical music along with the rocking. This is then linked with the genre of my music magazine.

  • 19. Ideas to ‘repeat’ (Steve Neale 1980) Main image Interview Q&A
  • 20. Rough sketches Front Cover The mast head has been placed behind of the main image to make the artists stand out. The back ground colour is to make the font and main image stand out. Main image takes up the full page to then make the artists the main focus.
  • 21. Rough sketches The main image in this rough sketch has more than one artist which decreases the size of the image. This is due to there being more people on the main image. Headline is linked to the magazines genre. It also links to the head mast. The dance that the magazine want to promote. I have changed the colour of the back ground half way down the page to make the front cover more presentable,
  • 22. Rough sketches DPS Using the black back ground makes the main image stand out. For my second DPS I have switched the colours around. This is so that the text now will come up bold along with the black back ground. The main image is on a white back ground to contrast the colours to engage the reader into something more interesting.
  • 23. Final Draft Front cover Dark blue to indicate the sky above the mast head. This connotes the scene of a coast. Lighter shades of blue at the bottom to connote the calm sea. Warm colours on the main image to connote the warm sun. Barcode placed at the bottom right hand corner of the magazine. This issue number and the price will also be place here.
  • 24. Final DPS Here I have chose n the shapes and the range of colours to connote the coast. Using the bright colours to make the artist name stand out to the reader that this DPS is about him. Having the magazines name at the top makes the DPS look more presentable to the reader.
  • 27. Photography plan • The pictures on the following slide show you the kind of images that will be featured within the photo shoot. • The genre of my music magazine is indie rock. This is a stereo typical classic rock theme. This involves leather jackets, sunglasses and greased hair.
  • 28. Prop Tests • I have used cameras to take the photos for the plan. • For the real photo shoot I used my I phone 5C to take the pictures of the people that I wanted to appear on the front cover.
  • 31. Screen shots of the Photography plan
  • 35. Office Space • I have chosen this office space for my magazine in Sheffield. This is because this office space is outside of London. This means that the rent for the office space will be a lot more cheaper. • The office will give me Located on the ground floor of this office unit is 2,065 Sq.Ft – 1,732 Sq of space. This will be enough space for the computers and the printers that I need to have in the office.
  • 39. Post production • For the magazine that I had created I had used the programme called phot shop. This is owned by adobe CS5.1, this is the best to used when making the magazine as you have all the tools that you need to make the images big or small. • The colour tools allowed me to get the correct colour scheme for the magazines front page along with the double page spread. It allowed me to make the colours contrast as they met on the front cover. This make a good effect and makes the magazine look very smart. • The crop tool I had used allowed me to be able to make the size of the image big or small at all different angles. Parts of the image I didn’t want in my magazine so I used the crop tool to cut it out. This then left me with the image that I wanted.
  • 40. Legal and Ethical • When producing the magazine there are many things that have to be considered before we can start to sell the magazines. • Copyright is the main issue within the magazine industry today. Infringement of Copyright is illegal because in basic terms it means that you are stealing media pictures or even text from sources that are not owned by you. For example taking a picture of a celebrity and not asking for permission would be classed as copyright. • Copy and pasting text from an online magazine and then putting it in your magazine would then be classed as infringement of copyright. The ethical issues that stand today within the magazine is to do with race. For example if you put on the front cover of your magazine an image of a white or black person and then used words that become offensive to the race, then this would be illegal. People could become offended and then have the right to sue the magazine. Any company that produce material similar to my magazine have to tread carefully to avoid possible litigation. https://www.gov.uk/government/consultations/copyri ght
  • 41. Press complaints commission Here you are also allowed to be able to make the complaints about what the magazine has In anyway had any offence on you. They deal with things such as the pictures, text and even colour for the magazine. This is where I made my complaint about the magazine about. They then explain when you will hear back from them and talk about how they are able to deal with the situation. This is based In the UK and as I have sown it is free to use online. http://www.pcc.org.uk/c omplaints/makingacompl aint.html
  • 42. Conclusion- LO1 • I have produced some pre production materials that will make up the design of my music magazine. I have made some designs within this LO to help give me a good idea of what house style colours and fonts I want to use throughout the magazine. I have completed a production plan to show how my magazine will be produced day by day. This includes the equipment costs that I have researched to give me an idea of what it will cost me.

  • 46. • The location where the shoot will take place will be at St Andrews school. It is accessible for us as we are students of the school. The school has an outdoor area where the shoot can be held. There are many hazards within this photoshoot for example hazards such as children obstructing the shoot. This would be against the child protection act. You must not take pictures of children without the parents or guardians permission. Location Recce
  • 47. Location Recce Pictures This is an image taken of where I will be taking my photoshoot. In this shoot the hazards will be children walking across the playground during the shoot. This is a hazard because of the child protection act. You cannot take a picture of a young child without parent permission. So I need to make sure this shoot is out of school hours. Source: http://www.barnardos.org.uk/MKeQ URoCuqfw_wcB
  • 48. Location Recce Permission For my photoshoot I will need to obtain permission from the Head Master to use the playground. In the screen shot below you can see the e mail I have sent regarding the permission to use the playground. I will then need a reply in writing or via an email to confirm I can proceed.
  • 51. Legal and Ethical • The style of the magazine is based on rock. For the images in the book and the interview with James Gamage, I have made sure no tattoos are present in the shoot. The tattoos may be found offensive to the readers. This may be due to the ethical background they come from. This prevents anyone making complaints on IPSO.
  • 52. Intellectual Property • Intellectual Property law makes sure the design of my magazine has been protected. This includes the colours and patterns I use in the magazine. • This will stop other people from copying my magazine style, as the legislation protects it. • Source: https://www.gov.uk/government/organisations/intell ectual-property-office
  • 53. HSE • The Health and Safety Policy is based around using the printing machines for the magazines. This is where most the accidents take place. 22% of trips and slips are by the machinery. • The risk assessment will help prevent accidents caused by the hazards. This means making sure that the staff have the correct equipment when using machines, Such as gloves and goggles. • Source : http://www.hse.gov.uk/printing/index.htm
  • 54. Copy right • To make sure that my magazine does not have any copy right issues I am going to make sure that it is written on the front page of the magazine. • It will say [COPYRIGHT OWNER’S NAME] all Rights Reserved. This means I have obtained the trade mark and no one can take the idea and use it. • Source : http://www.cla.co.uk/copyright_information/copyrig ht_information
  • 55. Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 • The health and safety at work act will need to be displayed on the walls in the office. This ensures people at work are safe and are not at of risk of getting hurt in the office. This legislation ensures training on how to lift heavy boxes should be taken place. This then will reduce the risk of workers being injured. • Source: http://www.hse.gov.uk/legislation/hswa.htm
  • 56. Legal and ethical issues Intellectual property (IP) • IP is a term used which refers to the creation of the intellect, for which a monopoly is assigned to designated owners by law. • When a person invents or creates something, they are entitled to own the IP. • Some common types of intellectual property rights (IPR) are copyright, patents, and design rights. IPR also covers the rights that protect trademarks. IPR can cover music, literature, and other artistic works; discoveries and inventions; words, phrases, symbols, and designs.
  • 57. Copyright and Trade marks • When a piece of work is created by someone, they have the right to own it and stop it being copied. The owner of the copyright has the exclusive right to make copies, license, and otherwise exploit a literary, musical, or artistic work, whether printed, audio, video, etc. Original works created today are protected for the lifetime of the author or creator and for a period of 50 years after his or her death. For example you cant take someone's song that they have written and then make another version of it without the creators permission. The original artists has the right to own it and therefore cant be taken. • Trade marks are logos or words that specifically identify anything. Once a trademark has been produced and registered, they belong to the business. If the trade mark has been made and then registered and checked it will then have a ‘®’on top of the trade mark. In the magazine industry making sure that you have all the rights covered is important. The law is in place to make sure that the magazine will not lose the money because of other magazine’s taking the originals magazines idea. Source- https://www.copyrightservice.co.uk/copyright/intellectual_property • The magazine (See image above) is a registered trademark name so use of the identity would require permission from the institution and publisher.
  • 58. Copyright and Trade marks • • Rights cover: The law gives the creators of literary, dramatic, musical, artistic works, sound recordings, broadcasts, films and typographical arrangement of published editions, rights to control the ways in which their material may be used. The rights cover; broadcast and public performance, copying, adapting, issuing, renting and lending copies to the public. In many cases, the creator will also have the right to be identified as the author and to object to distortions of his work. • International conventions give protection in most countries, subject to national laws. Types of work protected: 1. Literary song lyrics, manuscripts, manuals, computer programs, commercial documents, leaflets, newsletters & articles etc. 2. Artistic photography, painting, sculptures, architecture, technical drawings/diagrams, maps, logos. 3. Typographical arrangement of published editions magazines, periodicals, etc. • The Copyright (Computer Programs) Regulations 1992 extended the rules covering literary works to include computer programs. • The magazine would have to ensure that they do not inform any laws above. • Source- https://www.copyrightservice.co.uk/copyright/intellectual_property
  • 59. Legal and Ethical • When producing my magazine there are many things that the magazine has to be aware of before I can start to sell the publications. • Copyright is the main issue within the magazine industry today. Copyright is illegal because in basic terms it means that you are stealing media pictures or even text from other sources of the media. For example taking a picture of a celebrity and not asking for permission would be classed as breach of copyright. • Copying and pasting text from an online magazine and then putting it in your magazine would also be classed as breach of copyright. This can be addressed by using an embedded watermark so that anything copied from the internet cannot be reproduced without this watermark. • Within my magazine I also need to aware of any content that could be considered discriminatory or politically incorrect. The ethical issues in todays society are mostly around race and equality, For example if you put on the front cover of a magazine a white or black individual, and then use wording that could be considered offensive, this could be legally challenged. People can be offended and may sue the magazine. • My magazine will have to be very careful what we are writing to avoid any legal action. Source: https://www.gov.uk/government/consultations/copyright
  • 60. Legal Process • How do I register copyright, trademarks – process and forms to complete • If you are looking to make sure that you have a legal trademark registered you have to log on to an internet website, this website is called the Trademarkhub. They have a 99% success rate which means that they have had successful trade marks that have been registered. • Source: http://landing.thetrademarkhub.com/?gclid=CP-2j9mB1MkCFUGVGwodBE4PFw
  • 61. Data protection act • The Data Protection Act prevents the personal information used for the magazine. This legislation came into force in the year 1998. This is an act of parliament that will follow procedures to keep personal data safe from other people using it. It provides a way for you to be in control of who sees the data for the magazine. • Source : https://www.gov.uk/data-protection/the-data-protection-act
  • 62. Influence on Individuals, Mass Audience • Within the magazine that I have chosen called Rock sound. There are many images in the magazine that have the impact on the audience. Most of the influences are based on the guitars and make up that many of the rock star effect. The content talks about the gigs that mainly take place but that is not the main attraction because many people who are into the rock all ready go to gigs. • The magazine talks about how the rock music has been produced so therefore influence the audience to understand how the music is made and in a way what goes on behind the scene. How the stars get their make up on, where they get there guitars from. They all have the influence on the audience then going to do their make up and hair the same way that the rock stars do there's.
  • 63. Influence on Individuals, Mass Audience • The magazine shows you double page spread of the rock bans with their make up so then seeing that with the hair and the funny make up would then have the impact on the fans of the band to be the same. As the rock members of the magazine are also known as role models. The fans look up to them as being celebrity's therefore being the best at the music that are in which the audience are fans of. • There are some negative effects on the audience because the magazine doesn’t give the audience the content about the back ground behind the stars. How they got this stage to become the famous people. All the magazine shows you is the images of the band and then the content talks about how the stars make the music. But doesn’t really tell you about the back ground of the band.
  • 64. Influence on Individuals, Mass Audience • This could then have an impact on the audience because they would want to follow the stars but not know how they then maintain and get to the stage they are at. So they end up looking like the band members but still having the simple job that they have. The behaviours of the audience changes due to the performance norms. http://education- portal.com/academy/lesson/how-types-of-group-norms-influence- individual-behavior.html#lesson
  • 65. Water Marks • This is when a piece of work created by someone has the right to own it and therefore cant be copied. For example you cant take someone's song that they had written and then make another version of it. The original artists has the right to own it and therefore cant be taken. If this is the case of taking a song then selling it the artists then has the right to take the legal action that is required. • Source- https://www.copyrightservice.co.uk/copyright/intellectual_property
  • 66. IP Permission for Logos • Within my magazine there will be social media logos placed around, this will be to help promote my magazine on social media and encourage viral marketing. To use a social media logo that isn't legally mine I have to either buy the rights to have it or ask permission. If I used Facebooks ident without permission I would then be facing fines and possibly prison. directly to see if I'm allowed to use their logo in my magazine. • https://www.gov.uk/using-somebody-elses-intellectual-property/overview
  • 67. How to get Permission to use Facebook’s Logo Because I am having the Facebook logo in my magazine I need to get some permission to use it. To do this you simply type into Google “permission to use Facebook’s logo”. This will then take you to a page as displayed below on the left hand side of the slide. You must first choose an option for how you would like to use the logo. For example, having it downloaded online or having it printed off. The next step is to read the guide lines that have been written out by Facebook. The guidelines explain what you can do and what you cant do with the logo. Once you have read this information you are able to download the logo by clicking download. Source: https://www.facebookbrand.com
  • 68. Register Trade Mark • If you have made a design or a logo and what to legally own it you have to register it on the www.GOV.uk website. The government have a intellectual property office to assess your application. The office will be able to tell you if the application you have sent them meets the rules for the registration. This is where I will need to send my music magazine Rock Dance off to. The cost of this registration will cost £170. If the application then meets the rules and regulations then the government will send you the rights for you to own the trade mark. This will mean no one can legally copy my logo design.
  • 70. IPSO • This is a company that handles complaints about the media that may in any way have offended you in any w ay of from. This could be classed as being racist or even being too stereo typical toward people . IPSO give you the voice so that you can be heard for the complaints' because of it being a huge company. They offer you the guidance and support for your concern about the editors that you have been offended by. You have to fill out this form that you provide online so that they know what they are dealing with online before that go through the process of the complaints. They are based within the UK and are only there for the public. The overall objective for this company is to make sure that the media have the standards at the correct level for the public. Bellow is the screen shot of the website and the information that I used for this assignment. • 1. Initial assessment 2. Referral to the publication 3. The investigation 4. Adjudication by the Complaints Committee 5. Remedies 6. Review of the process 7. Complaints which are not pursued 8. Unacceptable behaviour by complainants and vexatious complaints https://www.ipso.co.uk/IPSO/index.html
  • 71. IPSO- Codes to consider • Accuracy- when I publish my magazine I need to make sure that the information that has been published is accurate. This will include information such as publishing wrong GIG dates in the magazine. People would then go to the IPSO website to make an complaint about the incorrect date. • Confidential sources- The journalists for my magazine need to make sure that they are getting the correct information from reliable sources. For example when interviewing a band member. The journalist has to make sure that the band member is the actual band member. • Financial journalism-”Even where the law does not prohibit it, journalists must not use for their own profit financial information they receive in advance of its general publication, nor should they pass such information to others” This means that the money that is being made for the interview goes to the magazine and not individual staff. • Source : https://www.ipso.co.uk/IPSO/cop.html
  • 72. Making a Complaint • When you want to make a complaint you must go online to a website called https://www.ipso.co.uk/oxbxApps/app/complaint1.html . This website deals with all magazine publishing complaints. They ask you to fill out a few questions to see how the codes have been breached in the complaint you have made. They then make you upload a file to show your complaint. This can be done through a JPG,PNG,PDF or DOCX.
  • 73. Potential complaints being made about Rock Dance Potential complaints that could be made about my magazine could be the use of accuracy in the interview. The magazine says that the featured rocks album will be released by Christmas. But in the interview the rock star says that it wont be released till the summer. This can annoy people as the magazine is therefore not accurate. This against one of the codes by IPSO. People would then complain to IPSO saying my magazine is not accurate in what it says about the release of a music album.
  • 74. Conclusion- LO2 • Within this LO I have asses the risks that could potential be in the way for my magazine. I have assed all the legal and ethical issues that are related to the magazine. I have explained in detail the steps that you need to take when you are making a complaint about a magazine. Screen shots display what research I have made. I have covered a the copyright laws and codes that I need to consider when producing my magazine.

  • 90. Quick Selection Tool The Quick selection tool allows me to be able to select round a certain image that you have selected. As you can see from the screen shot I have taken of my photo shop image, I have used the quick selection tool to go around the edges of the image. The tool can pick out the different colours and tones that are used in the image. This will then crop out the background of the image and present it in the desired format .The tool will now select the pixels around the image that is not needed and then deleted. This tool is very effective and quick to use for cropping out the backgrounds image.
  • 91. Operating DTP Tools Here I used the eye dropper tool to select the correct colour for my images and text boxes. All the images have exactly the same colour to look formal.
  • 92. Free Transform Here is an example of how I re size the images, To get to this stage you must have the image selected. You can then push control T. the lines asset me to change the size I wish to obtain.

Screen shots have been taken to show what the tools have done to certain images on my magazine to make them stand out. Test photography has been included which shows you what kinds of shots I had taken for my magazine pages.

  • 105. Post production software I used Photo Shop in my production as this was the best programme to use tools that they provide you with. It had all the tools I needed to produce the magazine.
  • 106. Photo shop • To get the image you want onto the canvas you use the place tool as the screen shots show. Click file then place. You will then have the option of being able to select the image you want.
  • 107. Pen Tool • This is the called the pen tool, I used the tool to wrap text around my drop capital I used on my DPS. I had to first select the pen tool then click points around the drop capital. Once the shape had been made for the text I then joined the last point to the first point which the made a text box wrapped around the drop capital. The drop capital was used at the beginning of the interview on the double page spread.
  • 108. Deadlines • I have met most deadlines which have been put into place. Others met at a later stage due to further corrections that have been made. You can see from the spread sheet with the corrections on, I had to complete. The red text shows that I have incomplete work. The green shows I have completed the work.
  • 110. Safe working practice When taking images for the front cover and DPS I had to take into consideration the risks of taking the image and also editing the image. Software Risk Assessment (Photoshop) I also had to take into consideration the resizing of an image. I wanted high professional images I made sure I took quite a few to choose from and I made sure there were no risks involved in the location where I took the images. The images did not pixilate on Photoshop. Each time I resized an image I pressed command T and made sure I held down shift whilst resizing the image. By doing this it made sure the image was not distorted. .
  • 111. Masthead – Font Styles • My Mast Head is going to be kept looking smart , bold and simple with a hint of tropical. Bellow are some ideas of how I am going to convert the tropical ocean , smart, bold and simple look. The back ground represents the ocean and tropical colours. This then relates to the indie tropical rock genre that I am going to feature in the magazine.
  • 112. Fonts For my font styles I used a website called “Cool Text". This website gives you the choice of many different types of font styles to choose from. You have to do is select the font style you want then type in your logo text. This font is then given to you copyright free, This is displayed in the screen shot below as you are able to download the font to your user area. This will be then saved as a JPEG onto your user area. This then allowed me to be able to place the font into the Photoshop. Source: http://cooltext.com I have taken a screen shot of the websites address below telling me that it is a FREE graphics generator for web pages.
  • 113. Masthead – Final Idea Here is the final idea for the masthead, I have been inspired to use the similar design to style the Coasts use for their album. The text looks like its in a tropical atmosphere. The back ground gives out a ocean colour effect with the font style looking very smart and simple as this type of rock is more calmer than other types of rock, such as heavy metal. Bellow I have taken a screen shot of their album colours and font style. I then went onto a cool text website and chosen a similar font style and colours to the album cover of The Coasts.
  • 116. Colour- Swatches • When using Photo Shop for my magazine I had to pick colours to give the magazine a good brand identity. Theses colours were important to be chosen correctly due to the consistency across all of the pages in the magazine. The colour scheme will reflect on the brand identity for future issues. The band that I am featuring in my magazine called the COASTS colour scheme inspired me to use similar colours. I used the ‘eye dropper tool’ (i) on the COASTS album cover. From the screen shot below you can see the colour swatches I used for the DPS in Photoshop. I used green, blue and white in different tones. This suited the genre of my music magazine which is INDIE ROCK.
  • 117. Final Pages- DPS Here I have placed the magazines name in front of the DPS back ground. Colum's have been placed using the pen tool.Drop Capital placed at the beginning of the interview. Main Headline placed in a colour box to make it look bold. Page number placed at the bottom of the page. Main image is placed in the centre to show who’s been featured in the magazine.
  • 118. Final Pages- Front Cover Masthead is placed behind the main image to make the artists look important. Main head line is placed further down the magazine page with bold text to attract the reader to finding out what’s inside of the magazine. Barcode is placed at the bottom with social media logos and magazine website Free CD from the featured band is placed on the front cover Advertisement is placed along the left side of the magazine The Main image is placed at the centre of the front cover in front of the Mast head.
  • 119. Before and after • The previous design was the design was not relevant to the colour scheme which is blue. The old design was based on the red scheme. • I then changed the font style to follow the same style to the Coasts.
  • 120. Before and After I have added in some social media logos (synergy) to promote my magazine on different platforms such as Facebook. Twitter and Instagram. I have also added in more pictures such as the background image of the guitar to fill the space and give the audience an idea of what type of music ‘Coast Guard Tim’ sings.
  • 121. Conclusion- LO4 • Within this LO I have edited the materials that I have produced to be able to produce a final media product. This includes what type of tools that I had to use in photo shop to be able to edit my magazine pages. I have produced screen shots and a detailed description of what they do and how you use them. I have explained where I have got my font styles from and made sure that they are copyright free. This had to be researched as a good source of evidence. I have also explained what kind of colours I have used in my magazine in terms of the brand identity and explained why they are important.
