3. My Magazine
Bottom Bar - I copied the font style ‘plus’ from Q’s front cover magazine. I felt that this style is unique and would
suit my magazine front cover also it differentiates from the competition giving me an advantage.
Pose - Power and authority is shown through my artist’s pose. A similar pose is used on the front cover of Q
magazine, Noel Gallagher representing experience and power due to him being in the music industry for a long
time. This completely contrasts my artist due to him being new to the music industry however his strong start and
growth in popularity links to him having a powerful start in his career comparing to other famous artists.
4. Strapline - At the top of Rolling Stones magazine there is a strapline. Giving me the idea to input
one on my magazine front cover. This would give the audience an insight to my music
magazine..
5. Layout - I applied a similar layout to my contents page. Inputting a large image on the right hand
side of the page whilst creating other sections for different content e.g. Features , Interview and a
small headline. I found this layout suitable, therefore I applied it to my contents page.
Page Title - The page title is similar to Q’s however designed differently, I applied a black stroke and
underlined the text whilst having the main colour as white. Within the section there is also the issue
number , date and website of the magazine which the audience are able to access if they wish to
find out more information about MasterPlan in general.

Date
6. Image - I used a full image of the artist because it is different from other double page spreads. I
found the style of it vIsually the image is stretched across the whole double page spread in
magazines such as ‘Kerrang’ , ‘NME’ and ‘Rolling Stones’ however my magazine uses a similar
style to Q’s.
Headline - On Q’s headline there are 2 different colours. This makes the headline standout
therefore I applied the same style to my double page spread headline. However I added the colour
of white to the scheme to keep consistency throughout the magazine linking to the indie genre.
7. Large Letter (Red) - I inputted a large letter O to my double page spread instead of J. This is
because the style from Q’s double page spread is very appealing therefore I found that it would be
suitable to input on my double page spread.
Issue number
Date
9. Main Article - I used a large font for the name of my artist on the cover of my magazine, I decided to
use a strong bold font which I found to be appropriate on my magazine front cover. The colour
scheme of the font is red and white which strongly represents the indie genre throughout other indie
magazines using this similar colour scheme. I felt that this would appeal more to my intended target
audience.
Promotional Puff - I have created a promotional puff using the colours white and red. I added black
stroke to it and a slight drop shadow giving it a unique look. Whereas the promotional puff on Q’s
magazine has a gold tone to it and very small effects applied to it.
10. Colours - I applied the same colour scheme of white, red and black throughout my magazine front cover,
contents page and double page spread. This creates a form of consistency making my magazine look
more professional but also representing the indie genre.
Articles - The way that the articles are designed is similar to Q’s contents page however The spacing
the elements used on my articles is what makes it look different. I felt that using that design consistently
will strongly make my magazine look more professional.
11. Sub Heading - I used a similar sub heading as Q magazine however I made minor changes which
make it stand out. The name of my artist is more bold and contains a larger font however it strongly
replicates the main article on the front cover of my magazine using the same colour scheme of white
and red. It stands out from Q’s main article due the elements within the text layer.
Large letter - I applied the idea of having the artist’s first letter of their name to be behind the double
page spread story. Using a large font and adding a drop shadow to my letter ‘O’ this makes the double
page spread look more appealing and I found that this style is suitable for my double page spread. It is
different from Q’s double page spread due to its look and properties within the layer which make it
differentiate from the magazine.
13. Background - The artist on my magazine front cover stands outs against the white background. I
chose the white background because it outline the artist and visually makes him appealing on the
magazine front cover. The colour white represents hope implying that the artist is a saviour to the indie
genre and will bring something new that everyone in indie will enjoy. I felt that this will heavily represent
the mature target audience who my magazine is specifically aimed at.
Masthead - The masthead of my magazine differentiates from other indie magazines such as ‘NME’,
‘Q’ and ‘Rolling Stones’.The masthead that I have created is a homage to Oasis who a very popular
band in the indie genre. The target audience would understand why I have chosen this unique design
and title for my masthead because it strongly represents the indie genre.
Side Articles - The side articles are surrounding the artist but are not interfering with his space
because it would make the magazine look unprofessional and the image of the artist would be blocked
out by the text. The colours of white and red are used to create a form of consistency and resemblance.
14. Image - The attire of my artist represents the indie genre. Wearing a grey hoodie, black coat
and a fred perry t-shirt underneath my artist resembles the indie youth extremely well; this
style of clothing is very popular throughout the indie youth suggests. Also adding a landscape
image of 2 artists
Side Article - The way my magazine differentiates is that I have added a small article in the
top left corner of the page. This will give the audience an insight to the content within the
magazine which will encourage them to read on due to the quality of the story. Throughout my
research of different versions of contents page I have not spotted a small story within it which
gave me the idea that I should input a story in my article which would hook the reader in.
15. Pull Quote - Since the colour of white and red have frequently been used applied to the
artist's name, I have decided to apply that unique colour scheme to the quote to make it
stand out on the page, the words in red are seen as more they have more meaning like
‘new’ ’era’ and ‘I'm’ suggesting that the artists can see change happening to the indie
genre and he is going to be a significant part of that era.. This differentiates from other
double page spreads due to the main artist that they advertise on the front cover does
not have their own colour scheme like mine does.
