1. Three types of music videos
1) Concept: P!nk – Perfect
This is a concept video because it shows flashbacks
of someone’s life and through the video we follow
the protagonist’s life
Ambiguity – images of past on the walls.
Surrounded by the past and unable to escape?
Or just memories?
Overlays and montage sequences – sequence of
memories all at once. Blurred/unclear memories.
2) Narrative: Daughter – Still
This narrative video tells a story of a couple who
strive to be in love but no longer have feelings
for one another as they have grown apart.
Above: Low key lighting sets the scene
as dark and unhappy.
Left: Blue tint throughout the video
connotes the cold-nature of their
relationship. They have grown cold
towards one another.

2. These similar shots shown above show that both the male and female feel the same
way about their relationship – that it cannot be saved. The way the female cradles
her feet expresses her loneliness.
The woman’s face is highlighted by the
warmth of the lamp on the left, contrasting
the cold blue on the right. This reflects the
narrative – although their relationship is
irrevocable, they both just want to be loved.
3) Performance: Slipknot – Before I Forget
It is a typical convention for
bands to do Performance music
videos. In this particular video,
there are many close ups of the
band playing their instruments
as the band is known for not
showing their faces (enigma
code). Most shots show the
foreground in focus and the
background out of focus.
They are most commonly known for wearing masks but in this music video they do
not. We know this because of the camera shots cutting out their faces and certain
shots show parts of their faces.
