Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

For example : the makeup, hair, clothing and car choice.
High key lighting is present in within the shots of the wife character to suggest her innocence within the marriage as she
isn't the one cheating, whilst in complete contrast, low key lighting is used to show the harsh acts the male is committing

The song is about someone dealing with emotional problems and
how it leads them to dark places.
2 main characters
The colors are all very drained, this reflects the sadness the two
characters are feeling having been trapped in the cage which
represents their problems. The miese en scene that is shown creates
the overall look of sadness and depression reflecting the mood of the
song.
The two dancers are also wearing light brown dance wear which
shows how they are both stripped down to the basics and have little
left of themselves or each other.
The music creates an engaging story for the audience to follow however, the actions in the video do not directly reflect what the
artist is singing about, and this allows the audience to watch and decide what they think the song is about.
The video finishes with the daughter leading the father out of the cage, however she is unable to pull him through and he
remains stuck. The use of a low angle shows how the father has sunk to his knees and is emotionally drained. The song finishes
and it shows the father still struggling to get out the cage which suggests he may never be able to escape.

The music video is introduced by a conventional black
screen. A cut then displays an extreme long shot of a local
town with bright text with the artists name which

settings used; the apartment and outside pool area. Both
settings representing the two stages of her breakup
Costumes – 4 outfits throughout the music video, however
they are half-naked showing more legs and cleavage.

Lighting – the lighting from both sets reflects on Dua and the dancers mood. For example: the lighting by the pool is
lighting then in the apartment. This bright light connotates her being able to move on and her happiness.
Relationship between lyrics and visual – when the lyrics read 'one don’t pick up the phone' the dancer stops her from getting
the phone and calling her ex.
Quick cuts – towards the end of the video the cuts started to become quicker and matches with the beat of the music.
