to the ground. This was my
initiation into the humble
world of Samaj Sevaks, peo-
plewhoworkwholeheartedl
y
for society and the country
.
The process of debunking
myths about contesting elec-
tions had started for me.
I was told that I would be
fighting against a candidate
belonging to the royal family
and had ruled over the area
from 1952 to 1998. So it was
natural that winning the
election was going to be no
walk in the park for me, nei-
ther would my candidature
be accepted easily. Seniors
advised me to spread a word
among my family, friends
and relatives that I would be
fighting the elections and
seek their support. They
also advised me to meet
Atalji, Advaniji, Kushabhau
Thakre and Sushmaji.
The first karyakarta meet-
ing was to be held at Agarwal
Dharamshala
, Gurgaon. We
were fighting as a coalition
so a joint meeting with Indi-
an National Lokdal and BJP
karyakartas was organized.
The hall was chock-full of
workers of the two parties.
Modiji was present for the
meeting along with the most
renowned names of the BJP
.
What transpired that day
touched me to the core and I
grew emotionally attached
with Modiji for his brotherly
protection,guidanceandsup-
port. In his speech, Modiji
said, “One vote has made all
the difference and it is this- it
is the vote of Congress’s Rao
Indrajeet. Now Sudha Yadav
will fight for this seat. She is
a Veerangana and does not
have anything. We have to
help her fight and win.”
Modiji spread out a sheet on
the floor and placed a steel
Kalash in the centre. He then
charged the hall with these
words “I am a pracharak and
the Sangh takes care of me
and my expenses. Several
years ago when I visited my
mother, she blessed me with
Rs 11 and told me that this
money will come in handy
someday
. I feel it was for this
day that my mother gave me
that money
. I offer Rs 11 for
mysisterSudhaYadav’sfight
in this election and I request
all the karyakartas to sacri-
fice in this yajna everything
they have on them right now,
except for the fare to go back
home.” I was mesmerized, in
a state of transcendence
, as
this entire experience was so
new to me. Within half an
hour, at Modiji’s behest, an
amount of Rs 7.5 lakh had
been collected as funds for
my election campaign.
This is how my political
journey began. After this
Modiji organised a sabha in
my Lok Sabha constituency
.
It was a magnificent sabha
in Rewari and Atalji was to
attend it as well. Modiji rode
on a scooter the entire day to
gauge the pulse of the peo-
ple and the response to our
campaign. My car was stuck
in jam as people were gush-
ing in for the sabha and the
hovering of Atalji’s helicop-
ter could be heard signaling
his arrival. Modiji got me a
lift on a scooter too that took
me through the narrow
lanes so that I could make it
to the sabha in time. After
the event was over, Atalji
had a brief interaction with
me before leaving. He con-
gratulated me for inching
closer to a win. At last, when
I met Modiji at the party of-
fice later in the day, he said
“Look, you are winning this
election. Keep your calm
and continue to campaign
for a couple of days more.
You will make it.” And in-
deed, I won that election!
TO BE CONTINUED…
udha Yadav is a Kargil war
widow and has been a Lok
Sabha MP from Haryana.
Modi’s decision to field Kar-
gil war widows as candidates
gave this teacher a chance to
contest elections. Modi was
PrabhariatHaryanaofficeat
that time. The story is about
the immense support and
guidance that she received
from Modiji for the big con-
test. The incident as it hap-
pened: Modiji had once re-
ceived Rs 11 from his mother
in blessing, which he in turn,
a few years down the line,
handed over to Sudha Yadav
as a blessing to initiate her
election campaign and asked
the karyakartas to contrib-
ute whatever they had on
them at that moment to fund
her campaign. Within half
an hour, there were Rs 7.5
lakh on the blanket donated
as a campaign fund for Sud-
ha and of course, Sudha Ya-
dav won that election.
There were 18 Kargil war
widows in the area I resided
in and it was Modiji’s vision
to field someone from the
family of martyrs for that
election. I was a teacher by
profession and was clueless
about the ways of politics.
All of a sudden I started re-
ceiving calls from BJP mem-
bers encouraging me to con-
test elections but I continued
to refuse as neither my fam-
ily nor I ever imagined my-
self cut out for such a role.
Also, I had no political back-
ground. It was then that
Chaudhary Ishwar Singhji,
who was then the State Pres-
ident of Kisan Morcha, said
to me “I will give you a num-
ber. Speak to the person. You
will find your way
.” It hap-
pened to be Narendrabha
i’s
number. Let me reiterate, I
was so politically naive, I did
not even know what it meant
to be Rashtriye Sanghathan
Mahamantri of BJP
.
Nevertheless,
I called up
the landline number. Naren-
dra bhai used to reside at
Harishchandr

at that time. He answered the
call himself and I introduced
myself. I said that the mem-
bers of the BJP are persuad-
ing me to contest the upcom-
ing elections and since I am
befuddled I have been given
your number. What he said to
me completely changed my
perspective.Hesaid“Sudhaji

bhai the next day and con-
firmed to him my intention
to contest the elections. But
again I shared my misgiv-

endra bhai, a few party work-
ers have told me that a lot of
money is required to run an
election campaign whereas I
belong to the service class.

save for my children. My
daughter is 7 while my son is
only three and a half. So this
money I cannot spend.” Nar-

SONIA GANDHI RAHUL GANDHI GET ED NOTICES IN NATIONAL HERALD CASE
CONGRESS CRIES

New Delhi: The En-
forcement Directorate
on Wednesday sum-
moned Congress presi-
dent Sonia Gandhi and
her MP son Rahul Gan-
dhi for questioning in a
money laundering case
linked to the National
Herald newspaper, offi-
cials said.
The case was regis-
tered recently to probe
alleged financial irregu-
larities in the party-pro-
motedYoungIndianthat
owns the National Her-
ald newspaper. State-
mentsof otherCongress
leaders, who were then
office bearers of the Na-
tional Herald and Asso-
ciated Journals Limited
(AJL), have also been
recorded by the ED.
The case only in-
volved the conversion
of debt into equity to
pay off dues like sala-
ries, the Congress said,
accusing the govern-
ment of trying to deflect
attention from “real is-
sues” like inflation.
By targeting National Herald every
now and then, BJP has disgraced
and disrespected freedom fighters
as their [BJP’s]
predecessors
didn’t play a role in India’s
Freedom Movement. National
Herald newspaper was started
in 1942. At that time British
tried to suppress it. Today,
Modi govt is using the ED
to do the same. A money
laundering case has been registered when there is
no money laundering. Move reeks of a vendetta,
pettiness, fear, and political cheapness.

Irani hits out at CM for ‘giving clean chit’ to Jain
New Delhi (ANI): Un-
ion Minister Smriti
Irani on Wednesday
lambasted CM Arvind
Kejriwal for “giving a
clean chit” to arrested
Cabinet Minister Saty-
endar Jain while also
posing a set of ques-
tions to the Aam Aadmi
Party supremo.
Jain was arrested by
the Enforcement Direc-
torate (ED) in an al-
leged money launder-
ing case and sent to
custody till June 9.
However, Kejriwal on
Tuesday defended Jain
calling the latter a true
patriot and terming the
allegations against him
‘false’.
Addressing a press
conference on Wednes-
day, Irani said, “Arvind
Kejriwal presumed the
role of a judge and gave
him a clean chit. I want
to ask Arvind Kejriwal
a few questions. My
first question is, can Ke-
jriwal deny that Satyen-
dar Jain laundered
`16.39 crore using 56
shell companies with
the support of hawala
operators in Kolkata
from 2010-11 to 2015-16?”
The Union Minister
further asked if Satyen-
dar Jain declared that
money laundered repre-
senting the undisclosed
income under the in-
comedisclosurescheme
2016 in the name of his
close associates An-
kush Jain, and Vaibhav
Jain is a self-declara-
tion by him in 2016.
“Is it true that the
principal commission-
er of income tax has
held that the unac-
counted income of
`16.39 crore was not of
Ankush Jain and Vaib-
hav Jain, but that Saty-
endar Jain was the real
owner of the income,”
she asked in her series
of questions to CM.
Union Minister Smriti Irani.

jriwal pre-
sumed the

Aiming to treat all wastewater
before it flows into Yamuna: CM
New Delhi (PTI): Delhi
Chief Minister Arvind
Kejriwal on Monday in-
spected the country’s
largest sewage treat-
ment plant (STP) at
Coronation Pillar here
and said his govern-
ment’s aim is to treat all
the wastewater before it
is discharged into the
Yamuna.
The fully automatic
STP can treat 70 million
gallons of wastewater a
day and is currently un-
dergoing a trial run.
“We have promised to
the people of Delhi that
we will clean the Yamu-
na before 2025. Working
in that direction, we
will treat all the waste-
water before it flows
into the river,” he said.
The work on Corona-
tion Pillar STP was
sanctioned in Decem-
ber 2018.
The STP is equipped
with state-of-the-art
phosphate and nitrogen
removal facilities and
designed to treat waste-
water to new standards
(biological oxygen de-
mand and total soluble
solids less than 10 mg
per litre). Areas which
will benefit from the
plant include Shakti
Nagar, Kamla Nagar,
Roop Nagar, DU Cam-
pus, Nehru Nagar, Swa-
roop Nagar, Bhalaswa,
Sant Nagar and Wa-
zirabad group of colo-
nies.
Delhi generates
around 770 MGD of
wastewater. The 34
STPs located at 20 loca-
tions across Delhi can
treat up to 620 MGD of
sewage and have been
utilising around 90 per
cent of their capacity.
The rest of the un-
treated sewage falls
into the river directly.
Government data
shows that only eight
out of the 34 opera-
tional STPs in the cap-
ital meet the pre-
scribed standards for
wastewater (BOD and
TSS less than 10 mg
per litre). Together,
they can treat 150 mil-
lion gallons of waste-
water a day.
New Delhi (PTI): Delhi
Chief Minister Arvind
Kejriwal on Wednesday
said Satyendar Jain, ar-
rested by the Enforce-
ment Directorate, should
be awarded the Padma
Vibhushan for giving the
‘mohalla clinics’ model
that treats people free of
cost. Kejriwal defended
Jain as a “hardcore hon-
est and patriot” person
who was being framed in
a “false case” and hoped
the minister will come
out clean after the ED
probe.
“The country should
be proud him as he gave
the model of Mohalla
Clinic that are being vis-
ited by people from the
world, including (ex) Sec-
retary General of the
UN. He gave a health
model that treats people
free of cost.
“I think, he should be
given top awards like the
Padma Bhushan or Pad-
ma Vibhushan,” Kejri-
wal told reporters here.
Noting that the CBI
gave clean chit to Jain,
the Delhi CM said now
the ED can also conduct
its probe and the minis-
ter will come out clean.
Jain holds various
portfolios, including
Health, Power and Home,
in the Arvind Kejriwal
government.
New Delhi (PTI): Senior
AAP leader Atishi on
Wednesday alleged that
Lieutenant Governor Vi-
nai Kumar Saxena had
called a meeting of DJB
officials and issued them
instructions despite the
subject of water being
the responsibility of the
Delhi government.
During a media brief-
ing, she said since the
L-G was new, he might
not have been aware of
the constitutional provi-
sions. “On May 30, Delhi
L-G called a meeting of
Delhi Jal Board (DJB) of-
ficials and issued them
directions. Since he is
new to the system, he
might not be knowing
the constitutional provi-
sions. “Land, law and or-
der, police and now with
the MCD also being uni-
fied and brought under
the Centre… it will come
under him since he is a
representative of the
Centre. But education,
electricity and water are
subjects that come under
the Delhi government,”
the AAP leader said.
She said such develop-
ments could lead to a cha-
otic situation in the na-
tional capital. “Delhi
L-G issues some direc-
tions to the officials.
Then some instructions
will be given to them by
the Delhi government.
What will the officials
do? Will they follow the
instructions of the L-G
or the government or
neither? This will lead to
a chaotic situation in
Delhi,” she added.
New Delhi (PTI): The
Delhi government has
extended the last date
for EWS admissions in
entry level classes up to
June 14, according to of-
ficials.
“The last date for re-
porting by successful
candidates of EWS and
DG category in entry
level classes has been
extended up to June
14,” Yogesh Pal Singh,
Deputy Director of Ed-
ucation, said. The ad-
missions to entry level
classes in private
schools in the city un-
der Economically
Weaker Section (EWS),
Disadvantaged Group
(DG) and Children with
Special Needs (CWSN)
categories began from
March 29.
New Delhi: The Jawa-
harlal Nehru Universi-
ty (JNU) has notified
the appointment of a
Chairperson (Health
Services) who will now
be responsible for the
Health Centre on cam-
pus.
As of now, the Health
Centre comes under the
Dean of Students.
Several complaints
regarding the function-
ing of the Health
Centre have been
given to the administra-
tion in the past, both
by students and teach-
ers, especially after the
pandemic.
“The Executive
Council in its 300th

mendations of the

versity (DU) and St

gation (PIL) chal-
lenging the latter’s

New Delhi (PTI): AAP
leader Sanjay Singh on
Wednesday alleged the
Centre is trying to divert
attention from the kill-
ings of Kashmiri Pandits
in the Valley by opening
an old case against Delhi
minister Satyendar Jain.
Instead of worrying
about sending Jain to jail,

who holds various portfo-
lios, including health,
home and power, in the
Delhigovernment,wasar-

Directorate (ED) in a case
of money laundering on
Monday
. A Delhi court on
Tuesday sent him to ED
custody till June 9.
Speaking at a press
conference, Singh said,
“At a time when Kashmi-
ri Pandits are being mur-
dered on a daily basis, the
Centre is trying to divert
attention from the issue
by opening an old case
(against Jain). Why did
the ED, which was sleep-
ing for the last eight
years, pick up Jain right
before the Himachal
Pardesh elections?” “In
the last eight years, he
was summoned seven
times by the ED. But why
was he arrested when he
was made the (AAP’s) in-
charge of Himachal
Pradesh and when the
AAPwasbecomingactive
in the state?” he asked.
TheHimachalPradesh
Assembly polls are slated
for later this year. The
AAP is looking to make
inroads into the state af-
ter its stupendous victo-
ry in Punjab earlier this
year.
Singh alleged the
Centre is not worried
about the plight of
Kashmiri Pandits. “It
would have been good
had the Centre held a
Cabinet meeting and
discussed ways to wipe
out terrorists, protect
Kashmiri Pandits and
save their lives.

Delhi generates around 770 MGD of wastewater. The 34 STPs located at 20 locations across Delhi
can treat up to 620 MGD of sewage and have been utilising around 90 per cent of their capacity.
The rest of the untreated sewage falls into the river directly. Government data shows that only eight
out of the 34 operational STPs in the capital meet the prescribed standards for wastewater (BOD and
TSS less than 10 mg per litre). Together, they can treat 150 million gallons of wastewater a day.

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla meets President Ram Nath

Bihar politicos see eye to
eye, caste census soon
New Delhi: Caste-
based survey to be con-
ducted in Bihar soon,
announced chief minis-
ter Nitish Kumar on
Wednesday
.
Addressing a press
conference along with
RJD leader Tejashwi
Yadav, Nitish Kumar
said that the “caste-
based count” will done
in a set time frame.
The Bihar chief minis-
ter made announce-
ment after an all-party
meet held on Wednes-
day.
“In the meeting all
nine parties unani-
mously decided that a
caste-based census will
be done in a set time
frame. Soon a cabinet
decision will be taken
and it will be available
in the public domain,”
Nitish said.
RJD leader Tejashwi
Yadav asserted that the
“caste-based survey”
was in the interest of
the people of the state
and urged the Central
government to provide
the necessary finan-
cial support.
“It’s a caste-based
survey, not a census.
It’s our win. Today we
suggested (in the all-
party meeting) that so-
cial anthropologists
should be included in
this,” Tejashwi said.
“We’ve said to bring
the (bill) in the next
cabinet meeting and
start it in the month of
November. During
Chhath puja people who
reside outside Bihar
will also come to the
state and till then we
can complete prepara-
tion for it,” he added.

to the ground. This was my
initiation into the humble
world of Samaj Sevaks, peo-
plewhoworkwholeheartedly
for society and the country
.
The process of debunking
myths about contesting elec-
tions had started for me.
I was told that I would be
fighting against a candidate
belonging to the royal family
and had ruled over the area
from 1952 to 1998. So it was
natural that winning the
election was going to be no
walk in the park for me, nei-
ther would my candidature
be accepted easily. Seniors
advised me to spread a word
among my family, friends
and relatives that I would be
fighting the elections and
seek their support. They
also advised me to meet
Atalji, Advaniji, Kushabhau
Thakre and Sushmaji.
The first karyakarta meet-
ing was to be held at Agarwal
Dharamshala, Gurgaon. We
were fighting as a coalition
so a joint meeting with Indi-
an National Lokdal and BJP
karyakartas was organized.
The hall was chock-full of
workers of the two parties.
Modiji was present for the
meeting along with the most
renowned names of the BJP
.
What transpired that day
touched me to the core and I
grew emotionally attached
with Modiji for his brotherly
protection,guidanceandsup-
port. In his speech, Modiji
said, “One vote has made all
the difference and it is this- it
is the vote of Congress’s Rao
Indrajeet. Now Sudha Yadav
will fight for this seat. She is
a Veerangana and does not
have anything. We have to
help her fight and win.”
Modiji spread out a sheet on
the floor and placed a steel
Kalash in the centre. He then
charged the hall with these
words “I am a pracharak and
the Sangh takes care of me
and my expenses. Several
years ago when I visited my
mother, she blessed me with
Rs 11 and told me that this
money will come in handy
someday
. I feel it was for this
day that my mother gave me
that money
. I offer Rs 11 for
mysisterSudhaYadav’sfight
in this election and I request
all the karyakartas to sacri-
fice in this yajna everything
they have on them right now,
except for the fare to go back
home.” I was mesmerized, in
a state of transcendence, as
this entire experience was so
new to me. Within half an
hour, at Modiji’s behest, an
amount of Rs 7.5 lakh had
been collected as funds for
my election campaign.
This is how my political
journey began. After this
Modiji organised a sabha in
my Lok Sabha constituency
.
It was a magnificent sabha
in Rewari and Atalji was to
attend it as well. Modiji rode
on a scooter the entire day to
gauge the pulse of the peo-
ple and the response to our
campaign. My car was stuck
in jam as people were gush-
ing in for the sabha and the
hovering of Atalji’s helicop-
ter could be heard signaling
his arrival. Modiji got me a
lift on a scooter too that took
me through the narrow
lanes so that I could make it
to the sabha in time. After
the event was over, Atalji
had a brief interaction with
me before leaving. He con-
gratulated me for inching
closer to a win. At last, when
I met Modiji at the party of-
fice later in the day, he said
“Look, you are winning this
election. Keep your calm
and continue to campaign
for a couple of days more.
You will make it.” And in-
deed, I won that election!
TO BE CONTINUED…
udha Yadav is a Kargil war
widow and has been a Lok
Sabha MP from Haryana.
Modi’s decision to field Kar-
gil war widows as candidates
gave this teacher a chance to
contest elections. Modi was
PrabhariatHaryanaofficeat
that time. The story is about
the immense support and
guidance that she received
from Modiji for the big con-
test. The incident as it hap-
pened: Modiji had once re-
ceived Rs 11 from his mother
in blessing, which he in turn,
a few years down the line,
handed over to Sudha Yadav
as a blessing to initiate her
election campaign and asked
the karyakartas to contrib-
ute whatever they had on
them at that moment to fund
her campaign. Within half
an hour, there were Rs 7.5
lakh on the blanket donated
as a campaign fund for Sud-
ha and of course, Sudha Ya-
dav won that election.
There were 18 Kargil war
widows in the area I resided
in and it was Modiji’s vision
to field someone from the
family of martyrs for that
election. I was a teacher by
profession and was clueless
about the ways of politics.
All of a sudden I started re-
ceiving calls from BJP mem-
bers encouraging me to con-
test elections but I continued
to refuse as neither my fam-
ily nor I ever imagined my-
self cut out for such a role.
Also, I had no political back-
ground. It was then that
Chaudhary Ishwar Singhji,
who was then the State Pres-
ident of Kisan Morcha, said
to me “I will give you a num-
ber. Speak to the person. You
will find your way
.” It hap-
pened to be Narendrabhai’s
number. Let me reiterate, I
was so politically naive, I did
not even know what it meant
to be Rashtriye Sanghathan
Mahamantri of BJP
.
Nevertheless, I called up
the landline number. Naren-
dra bhai used to reside at
HarishchandraMathurLane
at that time. He answered the
call himself and I introduced
myself. I said that the mem-
bers of the BJP are persuad-
ing me to contest the upcom-
ing elections and since I am
befuddled I have been given
your number. What he said to
me completely changed my

Modiji organised a sabha in my LS
constituency. Modiji rode on a scooter
the entire day to gauge the pulse of
the people and the response to our
campaign. My car was stuck in jam as
people were gushing in for the sabha
and hovering of Atalji’s helicopter could
be heard signaling his arrival. Modiji
got me a lift on a scooter too that took
me through the narrow lanes so that I
could make it to sabha in time.

his speech, Modiji said, “One vote has

New Delhi: When for-
mer Karnataka Chief
Minister BS Yediyurap-
pa was removed from
the post of Chief Minis-
ter, there was talk that
his son BY Vijayendra
would be made a minis-
ter in the state govern-
ment, but that did not
happen. Then there was
a discussion that he
would be given ticket in
the Legislative Council
elections to be held on
seven seats, but he
didn’t even get the tick-
et. Now Yediyurappa
has said that a big re-
sponsibility will be
given to his son. There-
fore the question is,
will his son get the big
responsibility as his fa-
ther has claimed? Keep
in mind that the assem-
bly elections are going
to be held in the state
next year and it is be-
lieved that Vijayendra
can get a ticket then.
But contesting the as-
sembly elections is not
a big responsibility. So
the question natural
arises: Is Yediyurappa
seeing his son become
the chief minister?
On the other hand,
knowledgeable BJP
leaders say that Basa-
varaj Bommai has been
made the Chief Minis-
ter of the state as Yed-
diurappa’s choice. So
now there is no need to
listen to him.
Either he can keep a
chief minister of his
choice or get his son
made a minister. It is
said that Yeddyurappa
is sacrificing his son
only to keep ‘alive’ CM
‘nominated’ bi him.
But it won’t last long.
Yeddiurappa will real-
ly take some big re-
sponsibility in the par-
ty for his son before the
next assembly elec-
tions. If his son is not
made a minister, then
he would like to inter-
fere more in the distri-
bution of assembly
tickets so that more
and more people can
get tickets. Yediyurap-
pa is laying his cards
by sensing the situa-
tion of a hung assem-
bly and therefore, the
assembly elections
next year are going to
be interesting.
Does BS Yediyurappa see a CM in his son?

sides, there was an
increase in the exit of

in the FMCG sector
due to high input
cost pressures, as
they were not able to

GOVT COLLECTS ` 1.41 LAKH CR GST IN MAY
New Delhi (PTI): GST
revenues bucked the
two-month rising trend
in May and stood at
nearly `1.41 lakh crore,
registering a year-on-
year increase of 44%.
Although the May
Goods and Services
Tax (GST) revenues
came in lower than the
record high collection
in April at `1.68 lakh
crore and `1.42 lakh
crore in March, it is
still the fourth highest
collection since the
rollout of the new indi-
rect tax regime on July
1, 2017.
In February, reve-
nues from taxing sale
of goods and services
was at `1.33 lakh crore,
while in January it was
`1,40,986 crore.
“The gross GST rev-
enue collected in the
month of May 2022 is
`1,40,885 crore of which
CGST is `25,036 crore,
SGST is `32,001 crore,
IGST is `73,345 crore
(including `37,469 crore
collected on import of
goods) and cess is
`10,502 crore (including
`931 crore collected on
import of goods),” the
Finance Ministry said
in a statement.
The revenues for the
month of May 2022 are
44% higher than the
GST revenues in the
same month last year at
`97,821 crore.
This is the fourth
time that the monthly
GST collection has
crossed the `1.40 lakh
crore mark since the
inception of GST and
the third straight
month since March
2022.
“The collection in
May, which pertains to
the returns for April --
the first month of the
financial year -- has al-
ways been less than
that in April, which
pertains to the returns
for March, the closing
of the financial year.
“However, it is en-
couraging to see that
even in the month of
May 2022, the gross
GST revenues have
crossed the `1.40 lakh
crore mark,” the Minis-
try said.
The total number of
e-way bills generated in
the month of April 2022
was 7.4 crore, which is
4% less than 7.7 crore
e-way bills generated in
the month of March
2022.
Deloitte India Part-
ner M S Mani said the
stability demonstrated
by GST collections ex-
ceeding `1.4 lakh crore
over the past three
months is a good indi-
cator of the growth of
the economy and ties in
with the other macroe-
conomic indicators in-
cluding the GDP num-
bers. “Significant ef-
forts in audits and ana-
lytics have also led to a
drive against tax evad-
ers, inculcating a tax
compliance culture,”
Mani said.
ICRA Chief Econo-
mist Aditi Nayar said
the high year-on-year
growth reflects the low
base of the second
wave.
“Nonetheless, the
May 2022 GST collec-
tions are robust com-
pared to the Q4 FY2022
trends, benefitting
from improved compli-
ance, market share
gains by the organised
sector as well as the
transmission of higher
commodity prices into
output prices,” Nayar
said.
Given the trends for
April-May 2022, and the
anticipation of a sus-
tained healthy momen-
tum of activity in ab-
sence of another wave
of COVID and major
disruptions, we expect
the CGST inflows in FY
2023 to exceed the
Budget Estimates level
by `1.15 trillion, help-
ing to absorb a part of
the higher subsidy bill.
IT IS THE FOURTH HIGHEST COLLECTION SINCE THE ROLLOUT OF THE NEW INDIRECT TAX REGIME ON JULY 1, 2017

PNB ups MCLR
by 0.15 per cent;
EMIs to go up
New Delhi (PTI):
State-owned Punjab
National Bank
(PNB) on Wednes-
day raised its mar-
ginal cost of funds-
based lending rate
by 15 basis points or
0.15% across all ten-
ures, a move that
will lead to an in-
crease in EMIs for
borrowers.
The new rates are
effective from June
1, PNB said in a reg-
ulatory filing.
The revision fol-
lows an off-cycle
rate increase by the
Reserve Bank in
May
. With the revi-
sion, one-year
MCLR has in-
creased to 7.40%
from 7.25% earlier.
Most of the loans
are linked to the
one-year MCLR
rate. The overnight,
one-month and
three-month MCLR
rose by 15 basis
points to 6.75%,
6.80% and 6.90%, re-
spectively, whereas
the six-month
MCLR increased to
7.10%.
At the same time,
three-year MCLR
increased by 0.15%
to 7.70%. With the
increase, EMIs will
go up for those bor-
rowers who have
availed loans on
MCLR (Marginal
Cost of Funds based
Lending Rate).
HDFC HIKES HOME LOAN RATES
New Delhi (PTI): Mortgage lender HDFC Ltd on
Wednesday announced an increase in its benchmark
lending rate by 5 basis points (bps), a move that will
make loans dearer for both existing and new borrow-
ers. This is the third hike effected by HDFC in the last
one month. “HDFC increases its Retail Prime Lending
Rate (RPLR) on housing loans, on which its Adjustable
Rate Home Loans (ARHL) are benchmarked, by 5 ba-
sis points, with effect from June 1, 2022,” the housing
finance company said in a statement. vised rates for
new borrowers range between 7.05% and 7.50%, de-
pending on credit score and loan amount. The existing
range is 7% to 7.45%. For existing customers, the
rates would rise by 5 basis points or (0.05%).

New Delhi (ANI):
Keeping the upcoming
elections of Himachal
Pradesh and Gujarat in
mind the Bharatiya Ja-
nata Party (BJP) will
hold its national execu-
tive meeting in Hy-
derabad on July 2 and 3.
Prime Minister Naren-
dra Modi, Home Minis-
ter Amit Shah, party
president JP Nadda,
Defence Minister Ra-
jnath Singh and a host
of other members of
the BJP national execu-
tive will be participat-
ing in the two-day-long
meeting.
This meeting which
takes place every quar-
ter is taking place after
a long time because of
the COVID-19 restric-
tions in place.
The last meeting of
the BJP national execu-
tive took place in New
Delhi in November 2021
just before the elections
in five states including
Uttar Pradesh, where
BJP registered a thump-
ing victory in early 2022.
Several important
discussions including
how the party is looking
to fare in the upcoming
elections and the
growth of the organisa-
tion, a role that a party
sees for itself as a build-
up to the 2024 general
elections are likely to be
on the agenda.
In this meeting, the
party passes political as
well as economic reso-
lutions lauding the
work that has been done
at the Centre by the
Narendra Modi-led gov-
ernment.
Recently, the Naren-
dra Modi-led Central
government has com-
pleted eight years in of-
fice with 2019 being a
big win over the 2014
general elections.
The choice of the
venue for the national
executive meeting is an
extremely important as
well as significant one
with the kind of push
that the BJP has been
making towards the
state of Telangana.
Recently at a public
meeting which was held
in Telangana, PM Modi
spoke about the bright
prospects of his party
in the state and con-
demned the dynasty

  • 1. to the ground. This was my initiation into the humble world of Samaj Sevaks, peo- plewhoworkwholeheartedl y for society and the country . The process of debunking myths about contesting elec- tions had started for me. I was told that I would be fighting against a candidate belonging to the royal family and had ruled over the area from 1952 to 1998. So it was natural that winning the election was going to be no walk in the park for me, nei- ther would my candidature be accepted easily. Seniors advised me to spread a word among my family, friends and relatives that I would be fighting the elections and seek their support. They also advised me to meet Atalji, Advaniji, Kushabhau Thakre and Sushmaji. The first karyakarta meet- ing was to be held at Agarwal Dharamshala , Gurgaon. We were fighting as a coalition so a joint meeting with Indi- an National Lokdal and BJP karyakartas was organized. The hall was chock-full of workers of the two parties. Modiji was present for the meeting along with the most renowned names of the BJP . What transpired that day touched me to the core and I grew emotionally attached with Modiji for his brotherly protection,guidanceandsup- port. In his speech, Modiji said, “One vote has made all the difference and it is this- it is the vote of Congress’s Rao Indrajeet. Now Sudha Yadav will fight for this seat. She is a Veerangana and does not have anything. We have to help her fight and win.” Modiji spread out a sheet on the floor and placed a steel Kalash in the centre. He then charged the hall with these words “I am a pracharak and the Sangh takes care of me and my expenses. Several years ago when I visited my mother, she blessed me with Rs 11 and told me that this money will come in handy someday . I feel it was for this day that my mother gave me that money . I offer Rs 11 for mysisterSudhaYadav’sfight in this election and I request all the karyakartas to sacri- fice in this yajna everything they have on them right now, except for the fare to go back home.” I was mesmerized, in a state of transcendence , as this entire experience was so new to me. Within half an hour, at Modiji’s behest, an amount of Rs 7.5 lakh had been collected as funds for my election campaign. This is how my political journey began. After this Modiji organised a sabha in my Lok Sabha constituency . It was a magnificent sabha in Rewari and Atalji was to attend it as well. Modiji rode on a scooter the entire day to gauge the pulse of the peo- ple and the response to our campaign. My car was stuck in jam as people were gush- ing in for the sabha and the hovering of Atalji’s helicop- ter could be heard signaling his arrival. Modiji got me a lift on a scooter too that took me through the narrow lanes so that I could make it to the sabha in time. After the event was over, Atalji had a brief interaction with me before leaving. He con- gratulated me for inching closer to a win. At last, when I met Modiji at the party of- fice later in the day, he said “Look, you are winning this election. Keep your calm and continue to campaign for a couple of days more. You will make it.” And in- deed, I won that election! TO BE CONTINUED… udha Yadav is a Kargil war widow and has been a Lok Sabha MP from Haryana. Modi’s decision to field Kar- gil war widows as candidates gave this teacher a chance to contest elections. Modi was PrabhariatHaryanaofficeat that time. The story is about the immense support and guidance that she received from Modiji for the big con- test. The incident as it hap- pened: Modiji had once re- ceived Rs 11 from his mother in blessing, which he in turn, a few years down the line, handed over to Sudha Yadav as a blessing to initiate her election campaign and asked the karyakartas to contrib- ute whatever they had on them at that moment to fund her campaign. Within half an hour, there were Rs 7.5 lakh on the blanket donated as a campaign fund for Sud- ha and of course, Sudha Ya- dav won that election. There were 18 Kargil war widows in the area I resided in and it was Modiji’s vision to field someone from the family of martyrs for that election. I was a teacher by profession and was clueless about the ways of politics. All of a sudden I started re- ceiving calls from BJP mem- bers encouraging me to con- test elections but I continued to refuse as neither my fam- ily nor I ever imagined my- self cut out for such a role. Also, I had no political back- ground. It was then that Chaudhary Ishwar Singhji, who was then the State Pres- ident of Kisan Morcha, said to me “I will give you a num- ber. Speak to the person. You will find your way .” It hap- pened to be Narendrabha i’s number. Let me reiterate, I was so politically naive, I did not even know what it meant to be Rashtriye Sanghathan Mahamantri of BJP . Nevertheless, I called up the landline number. Naren- dra bhai used to reside at Harishchandr aMathurLane at that time. He answered the call himself and I introduced myself. I said that the mem- bers of the BJP are persuad- ing me to contest the upcom- ing elections and since I am befuddled I have been given your number. What he said to me completely changed my perspective.Hesaid“Sudhaji a great change has come in yourlifewiththemartyrdom of your husband. Now you must come out to serve soci- ety . Just say yes and the party will help you fight the elec- tions.” Although I wasn’t completelyconvincedwheth- er really politics was my cup of tea, I called up Narendra bhai the next day and con- firmed to him my intention to contest the elections. But again I shared my misgiv- ingswithhimandsaid,“Nar- endra bhai, a few party work- ers have told me that a lot of money is required to run an election campaign whereas I belong to the service class. What I have received as exgratia payment, I wish to save for my children. My daughter is 7 while my son is only three and a half. So this money I cannot spend.” Nar- endra bhai replied “Sudhaji just say yes. Sangathan will help you fight the elections. These are all myths about elections that you must not harbour.HavefaithinNaren- dra bhai and say yes to serv- ing the society .” Thiswasthefirsttelephon- ic conversation I had with Narendra bhai and I was yet to meet him in person. My first meeting with some of the senior leaders of the Sangh Parivar happened a coupleof dayslateratHarish- chandra Mathur Lane which wastheresidenceof anMP .It had two rooms at the back and an open area in the front. I was awe-stricken to find Modiji,suchawell-knownpo- litical figure, sitting on a mat- tress on the floor, with books strewn all over the place and a telephone next to him. The fully automatic STP can treat 70 million gallons of wastewater a day and is currently un- dergoing a trial run. “We have promised to the people of Delhi that we will clean the Yamu- na before 2025. Working in that direction, we will treat all the waste- water before it flows into the river,” he said. The work on Corona- tion Pillar STP was sanctioned in Decem- ber 2018. The STP is equipped with state-of-the-art phosphate and nitrogen removal facilities and designed to treat waste- water to new standards (biological oxygen de- mand and total soluble solids less than 10 mg per litre). Areas which will benefit from the plant include Shakti Nagar, Kamla Nagar, Roop Nagar, DU Cam- pus, Nehru Nagar, Swa- roop Nagar, Bhalaswa, Sant Nagar and Wa- zirabad group of colo- nies. Delhi generates around 770 MGD of wastewater. The 34 STPs located at 20 loca- tions across Delhi can treat up to 620 MGD of sewage and have been utilising around 90 per cent of their capacity. The rest of the un- treated sewage falls into the river directly. Government data shows that only eight out of the 34 opera- tional STPs in the cap- ital meet the pre- scribed standards for wastewater (BOD and TSS less than 10 mg per litre). Together, they can treat 150 mil- lion gallons of waste- water a day. New Delhi (PTI): Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday said Satyendar Jain, ar- rested by the Enforce- ment Directorate, should be awarded the Padma Vibhushan for giving the ‘mohalla clinics’ model that treats people free of cost. Kejriwal defended Jain as a “hardcore hon- est and patriot” person who was being framed in a “false case” and hoped the minister will come out clean after the ED probe. “The country should be proud him as he gave the model of Mohalla Clinic that are being vis- ited by people from the world, including (ex) Sec- retary General of the UN. He gave a health model that treats people free of cost. “I think, he should be given top awards like the Padma Bhushan or Pad- ma Vibhushan,” Kejri- wal told reporters here. Noting that the CBI gave clean chit to Jain, the Delhi CM said now the ED can also conduct its probe and the minis- ter will come out clean. Jain holds various portfolios, including Health, Power and Home, in the Arvind Kejriwal government. New Delhi (PTI): Senior AAP leader Atishi on Wednesday alleged that Lieutenant Governor Vi- nai Kumar Saxena had called a meeting of DJB officials and issued them instructions despite the subject of water being the responsibility of the Delhi government. During a media brief- ing, she said since the L-G was new, he might not have been aware of the constitutional provi- sions. “On May 30, Delhi L-G called a meeting of Delhi Jal Board (DJB) of- ficials and issued them directions. Since he is new to the system, he might not be knowing the constitutional provi- sions. “Land, law and or- der, police and now with the MCD also being uni- fied and brought under the Centre… it will come under him since he is a representative of the Centre. But education, electricity and water are subjects that come under the Delhi government,” the AAP leader said. She said such develop- ments could lead to a cha- otic situation in the na- tional capital. “Delhi L-G issues some direc- tions to the officials. Then some instructions will be given to them by the Delhi government. What will the officials do? Will they follow the instructions of the L-G or the government or neither? This will lead to a chaotic situation in Delhi,” she added. The division bench of Acting Chief Jus- tice Vipin Sanghi and Justice Sachin Datta also issued no- tice to University Grants Commission (UG) and granted the respondents four weeks to respond to the PIL. Government data shows that only eight out of the 34 operational STPs in the capital meet the prescribed standards for wastewater (BOD and TSS less than 10 mg per litre). • 4. PERSPECTIVE NEW DELHI | THURSDAY, JUNE 2, 2022 04 www.firstindia.co.in I www.firstindia.co.in/epapers/delhi I twitter.com/thefirstindia I facebook.com/thefirstindia I instagram.com/thefirstindia to the ground. This was my initiation into the humble world of Samaj Sevaks, peo- plewhoworkwholeheartedly for society and the country . The first karyakarta meet- ing was to be held at Agarwal Dharamshala, Gurgaon. I offer Rs 11 for mysisterSudhaYadav’sfight in this election and I request all the karyakartas to sacri- fice in this yajna everything they have on them right now, except for the fare to go back home.” I was mesmerized, in a state of transcendence, as this entire experience was so new to me. You will find your way .” It hap- pened to be Narendrabhai’s number. Let me reiterate, I was so politically naive, I did not even know what it meant to be Rashtriye Sanghathan Mahamantri of BJP . Nevertheless, I called up the landline number. Naren- dra bhai used to reside at HarishchandraMathurLane at that time. He answered the call himself and I introduced myself. I said that the mem- bers of the BJP are persuad- ing me to contest the upcom- ing elections and since I am befuddled I have been given your number. Then there was a discussion that he would be given ticket in the Legislative Council elections to be held on seven seats, but he didn’t even get the tick- et. Now Yediyurappa has said that a big re- sponsibility will be given to his son. There- fore the question is, will his son get the big responsibility as his fa- ther has claimed? Keep in mind that the assem- bly elections are going to be held in the state next year and it is be- lieved that Vijayendra can get a ticket then. But contesting the as- sembly elections is not a big responsibility. So the question natural arises: Is Yediyurappa seeing his son become the chief minister? On the other hand, knowledgeable BJP leaders say that Basa- varaj Bommai has been made the Chief Minis- ter of the state as Yed- diurappa’s choice. So now there is no need to listen to him. Either he can keep a chief minister of his choice or get his son made a minister. It is said that Yeddyurappa is sacrificing his son only to keep ‘alive’ CM ‘nominated’ bi him. But it won’t last long. Yeddiurappa will real- ly take some big re- sponsibility in the par- ty for his son before the next assembly elec- tions. If his son is not made a minister, then he would like to inter- fere more in the distri- bution of assembly tickets so that more and more people can get tickets. Yediyurap- pa is laying his cards by sensing the situa- tion of a hung assem- bly and therefore, the assembly elections next year are going to be interesting. Does BS Yediyurappa see a CM in his son? GOVT COLLECTS ` 1.41 LAKH CR GST IN MAY New Delhi (PTI): GST revenues bucked the two-month rising trend in May and stood at nearly `1.41 lakh crore, registering a year-on- year increase of 44%. Although the May Goods and Services Tax (GST) revenues came in lower than the record high collection in April at `1.68 lakh crore and `1.42 lakh crore in March, it is still the fourth highest collection since the rollout of the new indi- rect tax regime on July 1, 2017. In February, reve- nues from taxing sale of goods and services was at `1.33 lakh crore, while in January it was `1,40,986 crore. “The gross GST rev- enue collected in the month of May 2022 is `1,40,885 crore of which CGST is `25,036 crore, SGST is `32,001 crore, IGST is `73,345 crore (including `37,469 crore collected on import of goods) and cess is `10,502 crore (including `931 crore collected on import of goods),” the Finance Ministry said in a statement. The revenues for the month of May 2022 are 44% higher than the GST revenues in the same month last year at `97,821 crore. This is the fourth time that the monthly GST collection has crossed the `1.40 lakh crore mark since the inception of GST and the third straight month since March 2022. “The collection in May, which pertains to the returns for April -- the first month of the financial year -- has al- ways been less than that in April, which pertains to the returns for March, the closing of the financial year. “However, it is en- couraging to see that even in the month of May 2022, the gross GST revenues have crossed the `1.40 lakh crore mark,” the Minis- try said. The total number of e-way bills generated in the month of April 2022 was 7.4 crore, which is 4% less than 7.7 crore e-way bills generated in the month of March 2022. Deloitte India Part- ner M S Mani said the stability demonstrated by GST collections ex- ceeding `1.4 lakh crore over the past three months is a good indi- cator of the growth of the economy and ties in with the other macroe- conomic indicators in- cluding the GDP num- bers. “Significant ef- forts in audits and ana- lytics have also led to a drive against tax evad- ers, inculcating a tax compliance culture,” Mani said. ICRA Chief Econo- mist Aditi Nayar said the high year-on-year growth reflects the low base of the second wave. “Nonetheless, the May 2022 GST collec- tions are robust com- pared to the Q4 FY2022 trends, benefitting from improved compli- ance, market share gains by the organised sector as well as the transmission of higher commodity prices into output prices,” Nayar said. Given the trends for April-May 2022, and the anticipation of a sus- tained healthy momen- tum of activity in ab- sence of another wave of COVID and major disruptions, we expect the CGST inflows in FY 2023 to exceed the Budget Estimates level by `1.15 trillion, help- ing to absorb a part of the higher subsidy bill.
