‘Satyamev Jayate: Victory against invaders’
First India Bureau
Ayodhya/Lucknow:
“India’s faith was at-
tacked by invaders,
but now, in the end,
India has won,” Chief
Minister Yogi Adity-
anath said on
Wednesday after lay-
ing the foundation
stone for the garbha
griha (sanctum sanc-
torum) of the Ram
Janmabhoomi temple
here. “Once again the
slogan of Satyameva
Jayate (Truth wins)
has proved its signifi-
cance. The victory
has been achieved
through the path of
Dharma, Truth and
Justice,” he added.
CM Yogi performed
pooja of the garbha
griha and poured ce-
ment on the stones
during the founda-
tion stone laying cer-
emony. Speaking to
reporters later, he
said that the Ram
Temple will be the
“Rashtra Mandir” of
the country.
“Everyone who
kept the Ram Temple
movement alive must
be feeling very happy
today,’’ he said. “It is
a victory over all
those foreign invad-
ers who had attacked
the faith of the people
of India.”
About a hundred
saints and seers from
different parts of the
country took part in
the rituals of the
‘shilapujan’ ceremo-
ny. According to of-
fice bearers of the
Ram Janmabhoomi
Teerth Khestra Trust,
the idols of Ram Lala
will be installed on
January 24, 2024.
The timing of the
opening of the Ram
Temple assumes
significance as the
next general elec-
tions are scheduled
to be held in May 2024
in which the Modi
government will be
seeking a third term
in office.

to the ground. This was my
initiation into the humble
world of Samaj Sevaks, peo-
plewhoworkwholeheartedl
y
for society and the country
.
The process of debunking
myths about contesting elec-
tions had started for me.
I was told that I would be
fighting against a candidate
belonging to the royal family
and had ruled over the area
from 1952 to 1998. So it was
natural that winning the
election was going to be no
walk in the park for me, nei-
ther would my candidature
be accepted easily. Seniors
advised me to spread a word
among my family, friends
and relatives that I would be
fighting the elections and
seek their support. They
also advised me to meet
Atalji, Advaniji, Kushabhau
Thakre and Sushmaji.
The first karyakarta meet-
ing was to be held at Agarwal
Dharamshala
, Gurgaon. We
were fighting as a coalition
so a joint meeting with Indi-
an National Lokdal and BJP
karyakartas was organized.
The hall was chock-full of
workers of the two parties.
Modiji was present for the
meeting along with the most
renowned names of the BJP
.
What transpired that day
touched me to the core and I
grew emotionally attached
with Modiji for his brotherly
protection,guidanceandsup-
port. In his speech, Modiji
said, “One vote has made all
the difference and it is this- it
is the vote of Congress’s Rao
Indrajeet. Now Sudha Yadav
will fight for this seat. She is
a Veerangana and does not
have anything. We have to
help her fight and win.”
Modiji spread out a sheet on
the floor and placed a steel
Kalash in the centre. He then
charged the hall with these
words “I am a pracharak and
the Sangh takes care of me
and my expenses. Several
years ago when I visited my
mother, she blessed me with
Rs 11 and told me that this
money will come in handy
someday
. I feel it was for this
day that my mother gave me
that money
. I offer Rs 11 for
mysisterSudhaYadav’sfight
in this election and I request
all the karyakartas to sacri-
fice in this yajna everything
they have on them right now,
except for the fare to go back
home.” I was mesmerized, in
a state of transcendence
, as
this entire experience was so
new to me. Within half an
hour, at Modiji’s behest, an
amount of Rs 7.5 lakh had
been collected as funds for
my election campaign.
This is how my political
journey began. After this
Modiji organised a sabha in
my Lok Sabha constituency
.
It was a magnificent sabha
in Rewari and Atalji was to
attend it as well. Modiji rode
on a scooter the entire day to
gauge the pulse of the peo-
ple and the response to our
campaign. My car was stuck
in jam as people were gush-
ing in for the sabha and the
hovering of Atalji’s helicop-
ter could be heard signaling
his arrival. Modiji got me a
lift on a scooter too that took
me through the narrow
lanes so that I could make it
to the sabha in time. After
the event was over, Atalji
had a brief interaction with
me before leaving. He con-
gratulated me for inching
closer to a win. At last, when
I met Modiji at the party of-
fice later in the day, he said
“Look, you are winning this
election. Keep your calm
and continue to campaign
for a couple of days more.
You will make it.” And in-
deed, I won that election!
TO BE CONTINUED…
udha Yadav is a Kargil war
widow and has been a Lok
Sabha MP from Haryana.
Modi’s decision to field Kar-
gil war widows as candidates
gave this teacher a chance to
contest elections. Modi was
PrabhariatHaryanaofficeat
that time. The story is about
the immense support and
guidance that she received
from Modiji for the big con-
test. The incident as it hap-
pened: Modiji had once re-
ceived Rs 11 from his mother
in blessing, which he in turn,
a few years down the line,
handed over to Sudha Yadav
as a blessing to initiate her
election campaign and asked
the karyakartas to contrib-
ute whatever they had on
them at that moment to fund
her campaign. Within half
an hour, there were Rs 7.5
lakh on the blanket donated
as a campaign fund for Sud-
ha and of course, Sudha Ya-
dav won that election.
There were 18 Kargil war
widows in the area I resided
in and it was Modiji’s vision
to field someone from the
family of martyrs for that
election. I was a teacher by
profession and was clueless
about the ways of politics.
All of a sudden I started re-
ceiving calls from BJP mem-
bers encouraging me to con-
test elections but I continued
to refuse as neither my fam-
ily nor I ever imagined my-
self cut out for such a role.
Also, I had no political back-
ground. It was then that
Chaudhary Ishwar Singhji,
who was then the State Pres-
ident of Kisan Morcha, said
to me “I will give you a num-
ber. Speak to the person. You
will find your way
.” It hap-
pened to be Narendrabha
i’s
number. Let me reiterate, I
was so politically naive, I did
not even know what it meant
to be Rashtriye Sanghathan
Mahamantri of BJP
.
Nevertheless,
I called up
the landline number. Naren-
dra bhai used to reside at
Harishchandr

at that time. He answered the
call himself and I introduced
myself. I said that the mem-
bers of the BJP are persuad-
ing me to contest the upcom-
ing elections and since I am
befuddled I have been given
your number. What he said to
me completely changed my
perspective.Hesaid“Sudhaji

tions.” Although I wasn’t

er really politics was my cup

bhai the next day and con-
firmed to him my intention
to contest the elections. But
again I shared my misgiv-
ingswithhimandsaid,“Nar-
endra bhai, a few party work-
ers have told me that a lot of
money is required to run an

daughter is 7 while my son is
only three and a half. So this
money I cannot spend.” Nar-

New Delhi: The En-
forcement Directorate
on Wednesday sum-
moned Congress presi-
dent Sonia Gandhi and
her MP son Rahul Gan-
dhi for questioning in a
money laundering case
linked to the National
Herald newspaper, offi-
cials said.
The case was regis-
tered recently to probe
alleged financial irregu-
larities in the party-pro-
motedYoungIndianthat
owns the National Her-
ald newspaper. State-
mentsof otherCongress
leaders, who were then
office bearers of the Na-
tional Herald and Asso-
ciated Journals Limited
(AJL), have also been
recorded by the ED.
The case only in-
volved the conversion
of debt into equity to
pay off dues like sala-
ries, the Congress said,
accusing the govern-
ment of trying to deflect
attention from “real is-
sues” like inflation.
By targeting National Herald every
now and then, BJP has disgraced
and disrespected freedom fighters
as their [BJP’s]
predecessors
didn’t play a role in India’s
Freedom Movement. National
Herald newspaper was started
in 1942. At that time British
tried to suppress it. Today,
Modi govt is using the ED
to do the same. A money
laundering case has been registered when there is
no money laundering. Move reeks of a vendetta,
pettiness, fear, and political cheapness.

Lucknow(PTI): CM
Yogi Adityanath
Wednesday said there
was “distrust” among
the people against the
government before
2014, and separatism,
extremism and terror-
ism were on the rise.
Addressing a press
conference at the BJP
state headquarters
here on the completion
of the Modi govern-
ment’s eight years, the
CM said the situation
changed after 2014
when the BJP-led gov-
ernment came to pow-
er with the slogan of
“Sabka Saath, Sabka
Vikas” (inclusive de-
velopment). ”There
was distrust among
people against the gov-
ernment before 2014.
Separatism, extrem-
ism and terrorism
were on the rise.
Anarchy was at its
peak. Corruption had
become institutional,”
Adityanath said. He
said that in May 2014
when Modi came to
power, welfare schemes
were launched for vil-
lagers, poor, women
and all sections of soci-
ety without any dis-
trimination, changing
the lives of 133 crore
people of the country
.
He said govern-
ments in the past just
gave slogans for pov-
erty elimination, but
did nothing on the
ground, and for provid-
ing people with the ba-
sic necessities of
“Roti, Kapda and
Makan”.

‘‘The Pujan of the

BJP veteran at CM meet
sparks off speculations
Will Laxman Acharya be heading the ruling party in politically crucial UP?
M Tariq Khan
Lucknow: As the wait
for new UP BJP chief
gets longer, the presence
of MLC Laxman Prasad
Acharya at the party
headquarters here on
Wednesday set off fresh
speculations as to who
would head the ruling
party in the politically
most crucial state.
The occasion was the
press conference of CM
Yogi to highlight the
eightyearsof ModiGov-
ernment under ‘Report
to Nation’ event. The
CM was flanked by his
dy CM’s Keshav Prasad
Maurya and Brajesh
Pathak. Also present
was incumbent state
party chief Swatantra
Dev Singh.
But the odd man,
whose presence on the
dais caught everyone’s
attention was senior
party leader Laxman
Acharya. Acharya pres-
ently is not only the vice
president of UP BJP but
also party’s deputy lead-
er in the House. He was
elected MLC in January
,
2021 along with former
bureaucrat-turned poli-
tician and PM Modi’s
close aide AK Sharma,
now a cabinet minister
intheYogiGovernment.
There are several
contenders for the
plume job. From within
the state unit, the con-
tenders are reportedly
vice-president Vijay Ba-
hadur Pathak and gen-
eral secretaries Ashwi-
ni Tyagi and Amarpal
Maurya. From outside
the state unit, the prob-
ables are Basti MP
Harish Dwivedi, Deoria
MP Ramapati Ram
Tripathi, Kannauj MP
Subrat Pathak and
Union ministers BL
Verma and Bhanu
Pratap Verma.
But some leaders
strongly feel and prefer
a Dalit for the post to
build on the fact that a
big chunk of Dalit vot-
ers had switched loyal-
ties from the BSP to the
BJP in the recent polls.
And it is here that Lax-
man Acharya comes
into the picture as a
very strong contender.

to the ground. This was my
initiation into the humble
world of Samaj Sevaks, peo-
plewhoworkwholeheartedly
for society and the country
.
The process of debunking
myths about contesting elec-
tions had started for me.
I was told that I would be
fighting against a candidate
belonging to the royal family
and had ruled over the area
from 1952 to 1998. So it was
natural that winning the
election was going to be no
walk in the park for me, nei-
ther would my candidature
be accepted easily. Seniors
advised me to spread a word
among my family, friends
and relatives that I would be
fighting the elections and
seek their support. They
also advised me to meet
Atalji, Advaniji, Kushabhau
Thakre and Sushmaji.
The first karyakarta meet-
ing was to be held at Agarwal
Dharamshala, Gurgaon. We
were fighting as a coalition
so a joint meeting with Indi-
an National Lokdal and BJP
karyakartas was organized.
The hall was chock-full of
workers of the two parties.
Modiji was present for the
meeting along with the most
renowned names of the BJP
.
What transpired that day
touched me to the core and I
grew emotionally attached
with Modiji for his brotherly
protection,guidanceandsup-
port. In his speech, Modiji
said, “One vote has made all
the difference and it is this- it
is the vote of Congress’s Rao
Indrajeet. Now Sudha Yadav
will fight for this seat. She is
a Veerangana and does not
have anything. We have to
help her fight and win.”
Modiji spread out a sheet on
the floor and placed a steel
Kalash in the centre. He then
charged the hall with these
words “I am a pracharak and
the Sangh takes care of me
and my expenses. Several
years ago when I visited my
mother, she blessed me with
Rs 11 and told me that this
money will come in handy
someday
. I feel it was for this
day that my mother gave me
that money
. I offer Rs 11 for
mysisterSudhaYadav’sfight
in this election and I request
all the karyakartas to sacri-
fice in this yajna everything
they have on them right now,
except for the fare to go back
home.” I was mesmerized, in
a state of transcendence, as
this entire experience was so
new to me. Within half an
hour, at Modiji’s behest, an
amount of Rs 7.5 lakh had
been collected as funds for
my election campaign.
This is how my political
journey began. After this
Modiji organised a sabha in
my Lok Sabha constituency
.
It was a magnificent sabha
in Rewari and Atalji was to
attend it as well. Modiji rode
on a scooter the entire day to
gauge the pulse of the peo-
ple and the response to our
campaign. My car was stuck
in jam as people were gush-
ing in for the sabha and the
hovering of Atalji’s helicop-
ter could be heard signaling
his arrival. Modiji got me a
lift on a scooter too that took
me through the narrow
lanes so that I could make it
to the sabha in time. After
the event was over, Atalji
had a brief interaction with
me before leaving. He con-
gratulated me for inching
closer to a win. At last, when
I met Modiji at the party of-
fice later in the day, he said
“Look, you are winning this
election. Keep your calm
and continue to campaign
for a couple of days more.
You will make it.” And in-
deed, I won that election!
TO BE CONTINUED…
udha Yadav is a Kargil war
widow and has been a Lok
Sabha MP from Haryana.
Modi’s decision to field Kar-
gil war widows as candidates
gave this teacher a chance to
contest elections. Modi was
PrabhariatHaryanaofficeat
that time. The story is about
the immense support and
guidance that she received
from Modiji for the big con-
test. The incident as it hap-
pened: Modiji had once re-
ceived Rs 11 from his mother
in blessing, which he in turn,
a few years down the line,
handed over to Sudha Yadav
as a blessing to initiate her
election campaign and asked
the karyakartas to contrib-
ute whatever they had on
them at that moment to fund
her campaign. Within half
an hour, there were Rs 7.5
lakh on the blanket donated
as a campaign fund for Sud-
ha and of course, Sudha Ya-
dav won that election.
There were 18 Kargil war
widows in the area I resided
in and it was Modiji’s vision
to field someone from the
family of martyrs for that
election. I was a teacher by
profession and was clueless
about the ways of politics.
All of a sudden I started re-
ceiving calls from BJP mem-
bers encouraging me to con-
test elections but I continued
to refuse as neither my fam-
ily nor I ever imagined my-
self cut out for such a role.
Also, I had no political back-
ground. It was then that
Chaudhary Ishwar Singhji,
who was then the State Pres-
ident of Kisan Morcha, said
to me “I will give you a num-
ber. Speak to the person. You
will find your way
.” It hap-
pened to be Narendrabhai’s
number. Let me reiterate, I
was so politically naive, I did
not even know what it meant
to be Rashtriye Sanghathan
Mahamantri of BJP
.
Nevertheless, I called up
the landline number. Naren-
dra bhai used to reside at
HarishchandraMathurLane
at that time. He answered the
call himself and I introduced
myself. I said that the mem-
bers of the BJP are persuad-
ing me to contest the upcom-
ing elections and since I am
befuddled I have been given
your number. What he said to
me completely changed my
perspective.Hesaid“Sudhaji

bhai the next day and con-
firmed to him my intention
to contest the elections. But
again I shared my misgiv-

ers have told me that a lot of
money is required to run an

Bihar politicos see eye to
eye, caste census soon
New Delhi: Caste-
based survey to be con-
ducted in Bihar soon,
announced chief minis-
ter Nitish Kumar on
Wednesday
.
Addressing a press
conference along with
RJD leader Tejashwi
Yadav, Nitish Kumar
said that the “caste-
based count” will done
in a set time frame.
The Bihar chief minis-
ter made announce-
ment after an all-party
meet held on Wednes-
day.
“In the meeting all
nine parties unani-
mously decided that a
caste-based census will
be done in a set time
frame. Soon a cabinet
decision will be taken
and it will be available
in the public domain,”
Nitish said.
RJD leader Tejashwi
Yadav asserted that the
“caste-based survey”
was in the interest of
the people of the state
and urged the Central
government to provide
the necessary finan-
cial support.
“It’s a caste-based
survey, not a census.
It’s our win. Today we
suggested (in the all-
party meeting) that so-
cial anthropologists
should be included in
this,” Tejashwi said.
“We’ve said to bring
the (bill) in the next
cabinet meeting and
start it in the month of
November. During
Chhath puja people who
reside outside Bihar
will also come to the
state and till then we
can complete prepara-
tion for it,” he added.
All nine parties unanimously decided to go ahead with caste census

RJD PASSES RESOLUTION EMPOWERING
TEJASHWI TO TAKE PARTY DECISIONS
Patna: The Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) MLAs in Bihar
have passed a resolution authorising leader of the op-
position, Tejashwi Prasad Yadav to take all calls related to
the party’s strategy inside and outside the House during a
state legislature party held on Tuesday late evening, lead-
ers aware of the matter said. The decision is indicative of

New Delhi: When for-
mer Karnataka Chief
Minister BS Yediyurap-
pa was removed from
the post of Chief Minis-
ter, there was talk that
his son BY Vijayendra
would be made a minis-
ter in the state govern-
ment, but that did not
happen. Then there was
a discussion that he
would be given ticket in
the Legislative Council
elections to be held on
seven seats, but he
didn’t even get the tick-
et. Now Yediyurappa
has said that a big re-
sponsibility will be
given to his son. There-
fore the question is,
will his son get the big
responsibility as his fa-
ther has claimed? Keep
in mind that the assem-
bly elections are going
to be held in the state
next year and it is be-
lieved that Vijayendra
can get a ticket then.
But contesting the as-
sembly elections is not
a big responsibility. So
the question natural
arises: Is Yediyurappa
seeing his son become
the chief minister?
On the other hand,
knowledgeable BJP
leaders say that Basa-
varaj Bommai has been
made the Chief Minis-
ter of the state as Yed-
diurappa’s choice. So
now there is no need to
listen to him.
Either he can keep a
chief minister of his
choice or get his son
made a minister. It is
said that Yeddyurappa
is sacrificing his son
only to keep ‘alive’ CM
‘nominated’ bi him.
But it won’t last long.
Yeddiurappa will real-
ly take some big re-
sponsibility in the par-
ty for his son before the
next assembly elec-
tions. If his son is not
made a minister, then
he would like to inter-
fere more in the distri-
bution of assembly
tickets so that more
and more people can
get tickets. Yediyurap-
pa is laying his cards
by sensing the situa-
tion of a hung assem-
bly and therefore, the
assembly elections
next year are going to
be interesting.
Does BS Yediyurappa see a CM in his son?

Lakhimpur Kheri
(PTI): BKU leader Dil-
bag Singh, a witness in
the Lakhimpur Kheri
violence case, was al-
legedly attacked by two
unidentified men here,
police said on Wednes-
day. The attack took
place Tuesday night
when the Bhartiya
Kisan Union (Tikait)
district president was
returning home from
Aliganj- Muda road in
Gola kotwali area in
his SUV when the bike-
borne miscreants
opened fire on him.
Singh, however, sus-
tained no injuries in
the attack.
Singh is among the
witnesses in Tikunia
violence of October 3,
2021 in which eight peo-
ple, including four
farmers and a journal-
ist, died. Union minis-
ter Ajay Mishra’s son
Ashish Mishra was ar-
rested in connection
with the incident.
Talking to PTI over
phone, the BKU leader
said the miscreants
punctured a tyre of his
SUV owing to which he
had to stop the vehicle.
“The assailants at-
tempted to open the
gates and windows of
the SUV. When failed,
they fired two shots at
the window pane of the
driver side,” he said.
Singh said he was
driving the SUV and
was alone. He said sens-
ing the intentions of
the attackers, he folded
the driver seat and bent
down towards the floor.
As the vehicle windows
were covered with dark
film, the attackers
could not decide the
BKU leader’s status in
the SUV and fled away
on their bikes.
Singh said he had
sent his official gun-
man (provided to him
by the district adminis-
tration) on leave owing
to his son’s sudden sick-
ness on the day. He
lodged a complaint with
Gola kotwali police
soon after the attack.
He added that he had
also informed BKU-Ti-
kait spokesperson
Rakesh Tikait about
the incident. Mean-
while, Additional Su-
perintendent of Police
(ASP) Arun Kumar
Singh told PTI that on
the complaint of Dil-

lodged.

who is admitted to the
Sir Ganga Ram Hospi-
tal here, sources said.
The two leaders chatted
for two hours amid
speculation of a rift.
They discussed the
Rampur Lok Sabha by-
election and the Rajya
Sabha election, accord-
ing to sources. “I have
no complaints against
him (Akhilesh Yadav). I
am not unhappy, I can’t
afford to be unhappy. I
am too small to advise
Akhilesh Yadav,” Khan
said at Delhi’s Sir Gan-
ga Ram Hospital where
he was admitted for
routine check-ups.
He said he had no
contact with Akhilesh
while in prison, so the
question of a rift
doesn’t arise.
Khan was admitted to
the Medicine Depart-
ment of the facility on
Sunday for a routine
medical check-up. “Akh-
ilesh Yadav visited the
hospital and met Azam
Khan who is admitted
at the facility,” a hospi-
tal source said.
The condition of
Khan is “perfectly sta-
ble”, hospital sources
had said on Tuesday.
Khan was released from
Sitapur Jail in Uttar
Pradesh on May 20, a
day after the Supreme
Court granted him in-
terim bail in a cheating
case. Azam Khan was
the Lok Sabha MP from
the Rampur seat but
quit after he became an

any Samajwadi Party
candidate on the seat is
crucial. Elections are

Lucknow: After suf-
fering a humiliating
defeat in the recently
concluded assembly
polls in UP, the
Mayawati-led BSP is
now on the verge of
decimation in the Ra-
jya Sabha and the UP
Legislative Council as
well.
It has become im-
perative for the party
to focus on civic polls
to boost the sagging
morale of the party
cadre, which is other-
wise disenchanted by
the successive series
of electoral defeats.
Notably, the BJP
had won a landslide
victory in the munici-
pal elections held in
UP five years ago, but
the performance of
the BSP was also a sur-
prise to the political
observers. For the
first time after 22
years, the BSP’s deci-
sion to contest the
civic polls on the party
symbol proved to be
very effective.
Although BJP had
secured 14 mayoral
posts out of 16 but the
BSP registered twin
successes in Meerut
and Aligarh, wrested
both seats from the
BJP. Political experts
insist that Mayawati’s
party is going through
themostdifficultphase
since its inception.
In view of these
harsh political chal-
lenges, the BSP chief
has started implement-
ing new plans. The fo-
cus is being on Dalit-
Muslim combination
formula. Mayawati
has entrusted the task
of strengthening the
party organization in
all 734 urban bodies to
three dozen in-charges
of all the mandals of
the state including par-
ty’s state president
Bhimrajbhar. The par-
ty’s state in-charges
Munkad Ali, Vijay
Pratap Gautam and Ra-
jkumar Gautam are
toiling in the task of
adding new members
to their respective
mandals. According to
political analyst
AkhandShahi,bymak-
ing the membership
campaign successful in
the cities, BSP can
emerge as a strong con-
tender in the elections
of urban areas, as well
as the party organisa-
tion can achieve a
strong position in
terms of preparations
for the upcoming LS
elections.

ollywood has

roles with
Ram aur Shy-

and Chaalbaaz, being
my personal favour-
ites. Sharmilee was
not in this league as
an entertainer but it
had its moments with
it’s moral ambiguity
and in-depth charac-
terisation of the lead
actors not to mention
the music.
The title track
O’meri Sharmilee is
super cute and buoy-
ant. Khiltey hain gul
yahaan and Megha
chaye aandhi raat are
both totally humma-
ble even today. Aaj
madhosh hua jaaye
rey … it’s all about
love and togetherness.
Rakhee is actually
breathtakingly beau-
tiful in both person-
nas as the wild and
outgoing Kanchan
and the demure and
traditional Kamini,
though I personally in
looks preferred the
traditional sweet Ra-
khee. She does mod-
ernise herself for her
beau Shashi but her
core remains tradi-
tional.
I liked the negative
Rakhee as Kamini
much better with her
spontaneity, naughti-
ness, perkiness, self-
ishness and flirta-
tious ways much more
than Kanchan who is
‘demure as dumb’,
painfully shy. And un-
like the usual Bolly-
wood twin dramas,
the ‘bad’ twin does
not have a change of
heart in the end, in
fact Kanchan be-
comes actually vil-
lainous towards the
end- her’s and the
movie’s. There is a
stark contrast be-
tween the two with
the self- sacrificing
Kamini and the self-
ish Kanchan.
Shashi Kapoor will
steal your heart as a
dashing, handsome,
charming Army of-
ficer (in uniform most
of the time) who falls
for one sister to be
married off to her
twin though I do wish
he had been kinder to
the innocent Kamini;
he is brutal in heart-
break and actually we
see a nervous break-
down. But the charac-
ters are all too human,
be it Shatrughan, Ra-
khee as Kanchan or
Shashi.
The movie has a
moral lesson of
traditional versus
modern Kanchan
the party girl falls
in the wrong com-
pany and how her life
deteriorates. The
strength of Kamini
who with her moral
compass and compas-
sion finds happiness.
The movie does have
some unnecessary
twists and under-
world drama but then
what is Bollywood
without these?

  • 1. ‘Satyamev Jayate: Victory against invaders’ First India Bureau Ayodhya/Lucknow: “India’s faith was at- tacked by invaders, but now, in the end, India has won,” Chief Minister Yogi Adity- anath said on Wednesday after lay- ing the foundation stone for the garbha griha (sanctum sanc- torum) of the Ram Janmabhoomi temple here. “Once again the slogan of Satyameva Jayate (Truth wins) has proved its signifi- cance. The victory has been achieved through the path of Dharma, Truth and Justice,” he added. CM Yogi performed pooja of the garbha griha and poured ce- ment on the stones during the founda- tion stone laying cer- emony. Speaking to reporters later, he said that the Ram Temple will be the “Rashtra Mandir” of the country. “Everyone who kept the Ram Temple movement alive must be feeling very happy today,’’ he said. “It is a victory over all those foreign invad- ers who had attacked the faith of the people of India.” About a hundred saints and seers from different parts of the country took part in the rituals of the ‘shilapujan’ ceremo- ny. According to of- fice bearers of the Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Khestra Trust, the idols of Ram Lala will be installed on January 24, 2024. The timing of the opening of the Ram Temple assumes significance as the next general elec- tions are scheduled to be held in May 2024 in which the Modi government will be seeking a third term in office. This was my initiation into the humble world of Samaj Sevaks, peo- plewhoworkwholeheartedl y for society and the country . The process of debunking myths about contesting elec- tions had started for me. I was told that I would be fighting against a candidate belonging to the royal family and had ruled over the area from 1952 to 1998. So it was natural that winning the election was going to be no walk in the park for me, nei- ther would my candidature be accepted easily. Seniors advised me to spread a word among my family, friends and relatives that I would be fighting the elections and seek their support. They also advised me to meet Atalji, Advaniji, Kushabhau Thakre and Sushmaji. The first karyakarta meet- ing was to be held at Agarwal Dharamshala , Gurgaon. We were fighting as a coalition so a joint meeting with Indi- an National Lokdal and BJP karyakartas was organized. The hall was chock-full of workers of the two parties. Modiji was present for the meeting along with the most renowned names of the BJP . What transpired that day touched me to the core and I grew emotionally attached with Modiji for his brotherly protection,guidanceandsup- port. In his speech, Modiji said, “One vote has made all the difference and it is this- it is the vote of Congress’s Rao Indrajeet. Now Sudha Yadav will fight for this seat. She is a Veerangana and does not have anything. We have to help her fight and win.” Modiji spread out a sheet on the floor and placed a steel Kalash in the centre. He then charged the hall with these words “I am a pracharak and the Sangh takes care of me and my expenses. Several years ago when I visited my mother, she blessed me with Rs 11 and told me that this money will come in handy someday . I feel it was for this day that my mother gave me that money . I offer Rs 11 for mysisterSudhaYadav’sfight in this election and I request all the karyakartas to sacri- fice in this yajna everything they have on them right now, except for the fare to go back home.” I was mesmerized, in a state of transcendence , as this entire experience was so new to me. Within half an hour, at Modiji’s behest, an amount of Rs 7.5 lakh had been collected as funds for my election campaign. This is how my political journey began. After this Modiji organised a sabha in my Lok Sabha constituency . It was a magnificent sabha in Rewari and Atalji was to attend it as well. Modiji rode on a scooter the entire day to gauge the pulse of the peo- ple and the response to our campaign. My car was stuck in jam as people were gush- ing in for the sabha and the hovering of Atalji’s helicop- ter could be heard signaling his arrival. Modiji got me a lift on a scooter too that took me through the narrow lanes so that I could make it to the sabha in time. After the event was over, Atalji had a brief interaction with me before leaving. He con- gratulated me for inching closer to a win. At last, when I met Modiji at the party of- fice later in the day, he said “Look, you are winning this election. Keep your calm and continue to campaign for a couple of days more. You will make it.” And in- deed, I won that election! TO BE CONTINUED… udha Yadav is a Kargil war widow and has been a Lok Sabha MP from Haryana. Modi’s decision to field Kar- gil war widows as candidates gave this teacher a chance to contest elections. Modi was PrabhariatHaryanaofficeat that time. The story is about the immense support and guidance that she received from Modiji for the big con- test. The incident as it hap- pened: Modiji had once re- ceived Rs 11 from his mother in blessing, which he in turn, a few years down the line, handed over to Sudha Yadav as a blessing to initiate her election campaign and asked the karyakartas to contrib- ute whatever they had on them at that moment to fund her campaign. Within half an hour, there were Rs 7.5 lakh on the blanket donated as a campaign fund for Sud- ha and of course, Sudha Ya- dav won that election. There were 18 Kargil war widows in the area I resided in and it was Modiji’s vision to field someone from the family of martyrs for that election. I was a teacher by profession and was clueless about the ways of politics. All of a sudden I started re- ceiving calls from BJP mem- bers encouraging me to con- test elections but I continued to refuse as neither my fam- ily nor I ever imagined my- self cut out for such a role. Also, I had no political back- ground. It was then that Chaudhary Ishwar Singhji, who was then the State Pres- ident of Kisan Morcha, said to me “I will give you a num- ber. Speak to the person. You will find your way .” It hap- pened to be Narendrabha i’s number. Let me reiterate, I was so politically naive, I did not even know what it meant to be Rashtriye Sanghathan Mahamantri of BJP . Nevertheless, I called up the landline number. Naren- dra bhai used to reside at Harishchandr aMathurLane at that time. He answered the call himself and I introduced myself. I said that the mem- bers of the BJP are persuad- ing me to contest the upcom- ing elections and since I am befuddled I have been given your number. What he said to me completely changed my perspective.Hesaid“Sudhaji a great change has come in yourlifewiththemartyrdom of your husband. Now you must come out to serve soci- ety . Just say yes and the party will help you fight the elec- tions.” Although I wasn’t completelyconvincedwheth- er really politics was my cup of tea, I called up Narendra bhai the next day and con- firmed to him my intention to contest the elections. But again I shared my misgiv- ingswithhimandsaid,“Nar- endra bhai, a few party work- ers have told me that a lot of money is required to run an election campaign whereas I belong to the service class. What I have received as exgratia payment, I wish to save for my children. My daughter is 7 while my son is only three and a half. So this money I cannot spend.” Nar- endra bhai replied “Sudhaji just say yes. Sangathan will help you fight the elections. These are all myths about elections that you must not harbour.HavefaithinNaren- dra bhai and say yes to serv- ing the society .” Thiswasthefirsttelephon- ic conversation I had with Narendra bhai and I was yet to meet him in person. My first meeting with some of the senior leaders of the Sangh Parivar happened a coupleof dayslateratHarish- chandra Mathur Lane which wastheresidenceof anMP .It had two rooms at the back and an open area in the front. Addressing a press conference at the BJP state headquarters here on the completion of the Modi govern- ment’s eight years, the CM said the situation changed after 2014 when the BJP-led gov- ernment came to pow- er with the slogan of “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas” (inclusive de- velopment). ”There was distrust among people against the gov- ernment before 2014. This was my initiation into the humble world of Samaj Sevaks, peo- plewhoworkwholeheartedly for society and the country . The first karyakarta meet- ing was to be held at Agarwal Dharamshala, Gurgaon. I offer Rs 11 for mysisterSudhaYadav’sfight in this election and I request all the karyakartas to sacri- fice in this yajna everything they have on them right now, except for the fare to go back home.” I was mesmerized, in a state of transcendence, as this entire experience was so new to me. You will find your way .” It hap- pened to be Narendrabhai’s number. Let me reiterate, I was so politically naive, I did not even know what it meant to be Rashtriye Sanghathan Mahamantri of BJP . Nevertheless, I called up the landline number. Naren- dra bhai used to reside at HarishchandraMathurLane at that time. Then there was a discussion that he would be given ticket in the Legislative Council elections to be held on seven seats, but he didn’t even get the tick- et. Now Yediyurappa has said that a big re- sponsibility will be given to his son. There- fore the question is, will his son get the big responsibility as his fa- ther has claimed? Keep in mind that the assem- bly elections are going to be held in the state next year and it is be- lieved that Vijayendra can get a ticket then. But contesting the as- sembly elections is not a big responsibility. So the question natural arises: Is Yediyurappa seeing his son become the chief minister? On the other hand, knowledgeable BJP leaders say that Basa- varaj Bommai has been made the Chief Minis- ter of the state as Yed- diurappa’s choice. So now there is no need to listen to him. Either he can keep a chief minister of his choice or get his son made a minister. It is said that Yeddyurappa is sacrificing his son only to keep ‘alive’ CM ‘nominated’ bi him. But it won’t last long. Yeddiurappa will real- ly take some big re- sponsibility in the par- ty for his son before the next assembly elec- tions. If his son is not made a minister, then he would like to inter- fere more in the distri- bution of assembly tickets so that more and more people can get tickets. The title track O’meri Sharmilee is super cute and buoy- ant. Khiltey hain gul yahaan and Megha chaye aandhi raat are both totally humma- ble even today. Aaj madhosh hua jaaye rey … it’s all about love and togetherness. Rakhee is actually breathtakingly beau- tiful in both person- nas as the wild and outgoing Kanchan and the demure and traditional Kamini, though I personally in looks preferred the traditional sweet Ra- khee. She does mod- ernise herself for her beau Shashi but her core remains tradi- tional. I liked the negative Rakhee as Kamini much better with her spontaneity, naughti- ness, perkiness, self- ishness and flirta- tious ways much more than Kanchan who is ‘demure as dumb’, painfully shy. And un- like the usual Bolly- wood twin dramas, the ‘bad’ twin does not have a change of heart in the end, in fact Kanchan be- comes actually vil- lainous towards the end- her’s and the movie’s. There is a stark contrast be- tween the two with the self- sacrificing Kamini and the self- ish Kanchan. Shashi Kapoor will steal your heart as a dashing, handsome, charming Army of- ficer (in uniform most of the time) who falls for one sister to be married off to her twin though I do wish he had been kinder to the innocent Kamini; he is brutal in heart- break and actually we see a nervous break- down. But the charac- ters are all too human, be it Shatrughan, Ra- khee as Kanchan or Shashi. The movie has a moral lesson of traditional versus modern Kanchan the party girl falls in the wrong com- pany and how her life deteriorates. The strength of Kamini who with her moral compass and compas- sion finds happiness. The movie does have some unnecessary twists and under- world drama but then what is Bollywood without these?
