COURT JUNKS PLEA

A NEW REPORT SAYS INDIA IS ON TOP RANK
IN WORLD ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE RACE
The Delhi
High Court
on Monday
dismissed a petition that
had sought directions
to disqualify Prime
Minister Narendra Modi
from contesting elec-
tions for six years for
allegedly seeking votes
in the name of deities,
saying the plea was
“thoroughly miscon-
ceived”. Justice Sachin
Datta said the plea was
“devoid of any merits”.
Petitioner Anand S
Jondhale, a lawyer, had
urged the court to take
action against Modi for
allegedly seeking votes
in the name of gods
and places of worship,
saying this amounted to
violating the model code
of conduct and commit-
ting an offence under
the Indian Penal Code
and Representation of
the People Act.
The intelligent data infrastructure company
NetApp recently released report on cloud
complexity suggests a clear division between
countries at the forefront and those behind on the
emergence of artificial intelligence (AI).

round the world, there’s a concerted push to
forge an agreement aimed at eradicating plas-

the continued reliance on fossil fuels by certain coun-

pose significant obstacles to reaching a consensus.

trucks laden with
plastic dumped their
content in oceans everyday and 19-23 million tonnes
of plastic waste pollutes seas, rivers and other water
bodies. Its presence in humans and in the bodies of
fish, animals and birds cannot be ignored.
The hazards plastic poses are numerous. Along
with environmental issues like climate change, eco-
system degradation it poses health, social and eco-
nomic risks. While thrashing out the issues to make
the earth free of plastic as far as possible, the nego-

families are dependent on the plastic industry. Yet, a
way to reduce plastic waste has to be found.

COACHING
DYNAMICS
Coaching is a goal-orient-
ed and a well-defined ap-
proach wherein, a coach-
works with a group or an
individual to assist them
achieve laid out goals.
Responsibility of a Coach
is to help the subjects
realise their strengths and
weaknesses, set targets or
objectives and then evolve
strategies to improve per-
formance. More often than
not coaching is skill based.
A Coach need not neces-
sarily be from the same
industry as the individuals
being coached. Coach-
ing periods are often of
shorter-terms and better
organised compared to
mentoring relationships.
MENTORINGCOACHING
THEDYNAMICTWINS
n the contin-
uously pro-
g r e s s i n g
global busi-
ness envi-
ronment, it is of vital im-
portance to develop the
next generation of skilled
and thoughtful leaders who
can guide and direct or-
ganizations to achieve de-
sired results. This meticu-
lous and relentless process
of tilling and preparing fu-
ture leaders is basically a
long-term investment re-
quiring a well-structured
strategic approach.
In my long and arduous
career as a corporate train-
er, I have observed that
coaching and Mentorship
are two flavourful tools
that play a pivotal role in
assisting industries achieve
their objectives. Both these
perspectives extend a win-
dow of opportunity to indi-
viduals to learn from sen-
iors in their field of inter-
est, hone essential leader-
ship skills and gain con-
stant guidance. It is by
nurturing the prospective
emerging talent that busi-
ness houses ensure a suc-
cession ladder of leader-
ship to keep them relevant
in the times to follow.
I have perceived that
even senior leaders often
use coaching and mentor-
ing interchangeably,
though they are heteroge-
nous in character. While
both the terms are invalu-
able in their own way, they
plate up to dissimilar pur-
poses. Normally, Mentor-
ing involves an experi-
enced person called mentor
from the same industry,
sharing his/her knowledge,
skills and experience with
a less experienced person
called mentee. Mentors are
trusted advisers and expe-
rienced person who guides
and supports the journey of
the mentee based upon
how he could tide over
similar challenges in his
own life and therefore, it is
more behavioural and cus-
tomised. Process of men-
toring tends to be on a
longer-term or at times life
long and remains more per-
sonalised than coaching.
On the other hand,
coaching is a goal-oriented
and a well-defined ap-
proach wherein, a coach
works with a group or an
individual to assist them
achieve laid out goals. Re-
sponsibility of a Coach is
to help the subjects realise
their strengths and weak-
nesses, set targets or objec-
tives and then evolve strat-
egies to improve perfor-
mance. More often than
not coaching is skill based.
A Coach need not neces-
sarily be from the same
industry as the individuals
being coached. Coaching
periods are often of short-
er-terms and better organ-
ised compared to mentor-
ing relationships.
So, in other words, if
mentoring is an informal
alliance aimed to build a
two-way, mutually benefi-
cial relationship for long-
term career movement,
Coaching can be defined
as a partnership with a
group of people/ team or
an individual for carving
out a creative process to
influence and persuade
them to optimise their per-
sonal and or professional
potential.
While Mentoring is a
self-directed activity
where mentee has a choice
to select a mentor and
where the approach de-
pends on a self-matching
procedure for a long-term
association, Coaching is
structured for shorter peri-
ods on a more frequent ses-
sions to work on a nar-
rower agenda and oriented
toward achieving expected
results.
Let me give examples
from great epic Mahabhar-
ta. Both the warring fac-
tions, the Pandavas and
Kauravas had the same
coach in Guru Dronacharya
whose content and style of
coaching was identical for
both. Yet, each one of them
acquired expertise of vary-
ing standards on different
weapon skills dependent on
each one’s personal liking
and interest. The devotion
and dedication of each one
also differed which led to
different results. But while
Arjuna selected Krishna as
his mentor who led him to
the path of righteousness,
the mentor chosen by
Duryodhana was crafty,
dishonest, cheat and a ma-
nipulator Shakuni. And we
all are aware of the out-
come of the battlefield at
Kurukshetra.
My next example is
from the spirited world of
sports where peer mentor-
ing and support measures
up to a pivotal role in shap-
ing the future of newer and
younger personalities.
Months before Indian team
triumphed in T-20 world
cup, they faced humiliat-
ing ouster in ODI cup by
losing to minnows Bangla-
desh and Sri Lanka at the
group stage itself in West
Indies in 2007. The coach
Greg Chappel turned out to
be a coach who managed
to brush the careers of
many acclaimed stalwarts
of Indian team like Kaif,
Irfan, Harbhajan and Sau-
rav Ganguly under the car-
pet. Yet, a few who chose
a correct mentor (Sachin)
like Sahwag managed to
sail through.
Owing to the examples
cited above, as a corporate
trainer I strictly advice my
clients that it is essential
and important to select a
mentor who has the capa-
bilities to impact the char-
acter of the mentee.
Though, selecting a coach
is also very important, but
then it is only for a specific
art, sports or business trait.
While a wrong choice of
coach may only result into
a failure in just an area, loss
of time, money, opportu-
nity or substandard perfor-
mance, wrong choice of
mentor may just be disas-
trous for your entire life.
THE VIEWS EXPRESSED BY
THE AUTHOR ARE PERSONAL
While Mentoring is a self-directed activity where
mentee has a choice to select a mentor and where
the approach depends on a self-matching
procedure for a long-term association, Coaching is
structured for shorter periods on a more frequent
sessions to work on a narrower agenda and
oriented toward achieving expected results

INDI ALLIANCE WANTS TO GIVE PM'S POST TO
EACH LEADER FOR ONE YEAR: PM MODI
Solapur: PM Narendra Modi said the opposition “INDI
alliance” wants to give the PM’s post to its leaders
for a year each, and asked the people if they support
such an idea. “There is a great war going on about who will
be the leader of the INDI alliance. Can you hand over such a
big country to someone whose face is not known,” Modi said
claimed that if the INDI alliance comes to power, it will work
with the “one year, one PM” formula during its five-year term.
“These people have been dividing the country to grab power.
Now a new formula has been brought in, that of five prime
ministers in five years. One PM every year,” he said. “While
you have seen each and every aspect of Modi in the last 10
years, there is war on who will be the leader of INDI alliance,”
he said. Modi said that in the last 10 years, his government
has put emphasis on “true” social justice. Modi said the
Congress, despite its “tainted background”, is dreaming of
snatching power in the country unaware that the INDI alliance
is already vanquished in the first 2 phases of LS elections.

untrue. Addressing re-

HIGHLIGHTING INDIA’S ‘ACT EAST’ POLICY SUCCESSES
New Delhi: External

the perception of people
living abroad had changed
after seeing how India
handled the COVID-19
pandemic and that the
country’s lunar mission

is watched by everybody

we make at home, is also
very keenly followed by the

ever way we wish, it’s not
just a conversation amongst
ourselves,” he said.

southern coastal parts of Tamil Nadu
are likely to experience the “kallakkadal

alerts to fishermen and coastal residents.
“As the rough seas are likely to intensify, stay
away from the danger zone areas as per the
instructions of the authorities,” according to the
Indian National Centre for Ocean Information

issues weather warnings for fishermen in the

The voting conducted on
25 Lok Sabha seats of the
State has shown a trend
of low voting.
Even veteran leaders
could not be as success-

was being claimed. If we
compare the voting in the
2019 Lok Sabha elec-

of Urban Development
Minister Jhabar Singh
Kharra, Water Resources
Minister Suresh Rawat
and Deputy Chief Minis-

lagged behind.
In Kharra’s Shrimad-

condition of Dudu As-

The victory and defeat in
the recently concluded
LS polls is hidden in
analysis of booths! BJP
and Congress are busy
analysing booth wise data
and matching between
Assembly polls and last
LS polls. Both parties are
preparing possible results
based on this. Where BJP
has claimed to win all 25
seats, Congress leaders
are claiming victory on
about 8-10 seats. Mean-
while, bookies of State
have also become active.
Meanwhile, BJP State
President CP Joshi dis-
played his sincerity to-
wards those who cam-
paigned for him in polls.
Many BJP stalwarts
toured Chittorgarh dur-
ing election campaign
and thus Joshi expressed
gratitude to all prominent

In fact, many leaders
even said that they had

other candidates as well,
but no one even thanked

captivating hearts and turning
heads with its fiery allure. From
the crimson carpets of Hollywood
to the runways of Paris, this iconic
hue continues to reign supreme,
effortlessly infusing elegance and
sophistication into any ensemble.
In the world of haute couture,
designers have embraced the al-

Beyond its sartorial appeal, red
carries a rich cultural significance,
evoking emotions and associations
that span centuries. In ancient civili-
zations, red was revered as a symbol
of wealth and status, adorning roy-
alty and nobility in opulent garments
fit for kings and queens. Today, red
remains a symbol of power and au-
thority, imbuing its wearer with a
sense of confidence and charisma
that commands attention wherever
they go.
From the iconic red lip to the time-

accessories add a touch of drama and
sophistication to any look. Wheth-
er you’re stepping out in a sleek
black dress or a crisp white ensem-
ble, a pop of red instantly elevates
your style game, infusing your outfit
with a bold and audacious flair that’s
impossible to ignore.
For those who dare to make a
statement, red offers endless possi-
bilities for self-expression and crea-
tivity. Whether you’re channelling
old Hollywood glamour in a vintage-
inspired red cocktail dress or em-
bracing your inner rockstar in a bold
red leather jacket, there’s no denying
the transformative power of this
iconic hue.
As we navigate the ever-changing
landscape of fashion, one thing re-
mains constant: the timeless allure of
red. Whether you’re embracing its

M CHASING A CHIMERA ON USE OF PLASTIC round the world, there’s a concerted push to forge an agreement aimed at eradicating plas- tic due to its detrimental impact on both hu- man health and the environment. However, achieving unanimity seems improbable given the conflicting interests of oil and gas-producing nations. Moreover, the continued reliance on fossil fuels by certain coun- tries and the vested interests of the chemical industry pose significant obstacles to reaching a consensus. Negotiations are underway in Ottawa to arrive at a treaty on plastic waste. India is among the 175 countries involved in the negotiations.Aglobal trea- ty, though unlikely, could bring about speedy reduction in plastic production and to prevent the re- lease of micro and macro plastic in the environment. Problems related to plastic are not con- fined to one country alone. It is also as det- rimental for marine and aquatic life as it is for earth and air. Ac- cording to the UN Environment Pro- gramme, an equiva- lent of 2000 garbage trucks laden with plastic dumped their content in oceans everyday and 19-23 million tonnes of plastic waste pollutes seas, rivers and other water bodies. Its presence in humans and in the bodies of fish, animals and birds cannot be ignored. The hazards plastic poses are numerous. Along with environmental issues like climate change, eco- system degradation it poses health, social and eco- nomic risks. While thrashing out the issues to make the earth free of plastic as far as possible, the nego- tiators will have to bear in mind that millions of families are dependent on the plastic industry. Yet, a way to reduce plastic waste has to be found. A Negotiations are underway in Ottawa to arrive at a treaty on plastic waste due to its detrimental impact. Responsibility of a Coach is to help the subjects realise their strengths and weaknesses, set targets or objectives and then evolve strategies to improve per- formance. More often than not coaching is skill based. A Coach need not neces- sarily be from the same industry as the individuals being coached. Coach- ing periods are often of shorter-terms and better organised compared to mentoring relationships. MENTORINGCOACHING THEDYNAMICTWINS n the contin- uously pro- g r e s s i n g global busi- ness envi- ronment, it is of vital im- portance to develop the next generation of skilled and thoughtful leaders who can guide and direct or- ganizations to achieve de- sired results. This meticu- lous and relentless process of tilling and preparing fu- ture leaders is basically a long-term investment re- quiring a well-structured strategic approach. In my long and arduous career as a corporate train- er, I have observed that coaching and Mentorship are two flavourful tools that play a pivotal role in assisting industries achieve their objectives. Both these perspectives extend a win- dow of opportunity to indi- viduals to learn from sen- iors in their field of inter- est, hone essential leader- ship skills and gain con- stant guidance. It is by nurturing the prospective emerging talent that busi- ness houses ensure a suc- cession ladder of leader- ship to keep them relevant in the times to follow. I have perceived that even senior leaders often use coaching and mentor- ing interchangeably, though they are heteroge- nous in character. While both the terms are invalu- able in their own way, they plate up to dissimilar pur- poses. Normally, Mentor- ing involves an experi- enced person called mentor from the same industry, sharing his/her knowledge, skills and experience with a less experienced person called mentee. Mentors are trusted advisers and expe- rienced person who guides and supports the journey of the mentee based upon how he could tide over similar challenges in his own life and therefore, it is more behavioural and cus- tomised. Process of men- toring tends to be on a longer-term or at times life long and remains more per- sonalised than coaching. On the other hand, coaching is a goal-oriented and a well-defined ap- proach wherein, a coach works with a group or an individual to assist them achieve laid out goals. Re- sponsibility of a Coach is to help the subjects realise their strengths and weak- nesses, set targets or objec- tives and then evolve strat- egies to improve perfor- mance. More often than not coaching is skill based. A Coach need not neces- sarily be from the same industry as the individuals being coached. Coaching periods are often of short- er-terms and better organ- ised compared to mentor- ing relationships. So, in other words, if mentoring is an informal alliance aimed to build a two-way, mutually benefi- cial relationship for long- term career movement, Coaching can be defined as a partnership with a group of people/ team or an individual for carving out a creative process to influence and persuade them to optimise their per- sonal and or professional potential. While Mentoring is a self-directed activity where mentee has a choice to select a mentor and where the approach de- pends on a self-matching procedure for a long-term association, Coaching is structured for shorter peri- ods on a more frequent ses- sions to work on a nar- rower agenda and oriented toward achieving expected results. Let me give examples from great epic Mahabhar- ta. Both the warring fac- tions, the Pandavas and Kauravas had the same coach in Guru Dronacharya whose content and style of coaching was identical for both. Yet, each one of them acquired expertise of vary- ing standards on different weapon skills dependent on each one’s personal liking and interest. The devotion and dedication of each one also differed which led to different results. But while Arjuna selected Krishna as his mentor who led him to the path of righteousness, the mentor chosen by Duryodhana was crafty, dishonest, cheat and a ma- nipulator Shakuni. And we all are aware of the out- come of the battlefield at Kurukshetra. My next example is from the spirited world of sports where peer mentor- ing and support measures up to a pivotal role in shap- ing the future of newer and younger personalities. Months before Indian team triumphed in T-20 world cup, they faced humiliat- ing ouster in ODI cup by losing to minnows Bangla- desh and Sri Lanka at the group stage itself in West Indies in 2007. The coach Greg Chappel turned out to be a coach who managed to brush the careers of many acclaimed stalwarts of Indian team like Kaif, Irfan, Harbhajan and Sau- rav Ganguly under the car- pet. Yet, a few who chose a correct mentor (Sachin) like Sahwag managed to sail through. Owing to the examples cited above, as a corporate trainer I strictly advice my clients that it is essential and important to select a mentor who has the capa- bilities to impact the char- acter of the mentee. Though, selecting a coach is also very important, but then it is only for a specific art, sports or business trait. While a wrong choice of coach may only result into a failure in just an area, loss of time, money, opportu- nity or substandard perfor- mance, wrong choice of mentor may just be disas- trous for your entire life. THE VIEWS EXPRESSED BY THE AUTHOR ARE PERSONAL While Mentoring is a self-directed activity where mentee has a choice to select a mentor and where the approach depends on a self-matching procedure for a long-term association, Coaching is structured for shorter periods on a more frequent sessions to work on a narrower agenda and oriented toward achieving expected results I Col Anupam Jaitly (R) The writer is defence expert, motivational speaker and corporate trainer
