Congress leader Priyan-
ka Gandhi Vadra on Fri-
day said that the BJP is
scattered in Rajasthan
and it does not have a
Chief Ministerial face for
the upcoming State As-
sembly polls.
“The BJPis a scattered
party in Rajasthan and it
does not have a face for
the CM’s post. The PM is
roaming every corner of
the state. Sometimes, it
seems that he is out to
find his Chief Ministerial
face,” Gandhi said while
addressing a poll rally at
Sagwara in Dungarpur
district. She said voters
will have to decide what
kind of leaders they want.
“Modi is seeking votes
in his name.Who will run
the state? He will not
come from Delhi to run
the state, a local leader is
needed for that,” she add-
ed. Gandhi also asked the
voters to be careful if
emotions and religion are
used with a design to get
their votes.
“If emotions and reli-
gion are used in politics,
one has to be careful. If
your emotions are being
used, then you will have
to be careful and think
whether they are working
for you or just taking the
name of religion,” Pri-
yanka Gandhi said. P8

CENTRAL GOVT SHOULD
MAKE ‘RIGHT TO SOCIAL
SECURITY’ LAW: GEHLOT
Chief Minister Ashok
Gehlot, who went
to the election rally
with Priyanka Gandhi, made
a political attack on Prime
Minister Narendra Modi in
Sagwara and Chittorgarh,
saying that PM Modi comes
to make false allegations.
Gehlot said that Sonia
Gandhi and Manmohan
Singh had passed 4 laws.
“Now the Central Govern-
ment should make the 5th
law in the country - Right
to Social Security. In this,
every family gets monthly
money. The allegations of
the Prime Minister and his
leaders have no merit. They
do not have the courage to
discuss the criticisms of their
actions. We have given 10
guarantees. These include
everything from insurance
to social security schemes.
They call themselves
religious, but which of them
served the cows in Lumpi.
Our government gave Rs
40,000 to the cattle rearers.
No government has done
such work in the entire
country,” CM Gehlot said. P8

ABOUT PITCHES
& INDIA’S SHOW
ndia’s stupendous performance in the ODI
World Cup 2023 is like a dream. While fans
are overjoyed and bubbling with hope of the
Cup coming to India, there is no dearth of naysayers
especially from Pakistan. A few Pakistani cricketers
raised the bogey of pitches being swapped for an
India match. One of them went to the extent of ques-
tioning India captain Rohit Sharma for tossing the
coin away from him to prevent the rival captain from
reading it. All of them got a fitting rebuttal from
other Pakistani cricketers like WasimAkram, Misbah
ul Haq, Moin Khan and Shoaib Malik, all veterans
of the game who are part of an informal show called
The Pavilion.
Former India captain Sunil Gavaskar also rub-
bished the charge and called the pitch critics “mo-
rons”. Everything depended on who won the toss.
Kane Williamson, the New Zealand captain whose
side lost to India in the semi-final, called the
Wankhede surface “pretty good”.

NMC FORMULA FACES
A SOUTHERN WALL
n August the National Medical Commission
(NMC) announced its decision to limit the
undergraduate seats in each state. With the
underlying idea being to improve the quality of educa-
tion and to provide the undergraduate seats in each
state were decided to be limited to 100 seats per 10
lakh population. “It is expected that this will reduce
regional disparities in the availability of healthcare
professionals and will go a long way in ensuring ef-
fective quality of edu-
cation. With this ratio
there will still be po-
tential for the addi-
tion of about 40,000
MBBS seats in the
country if the medical
colleges are evenly
distributed in states,”
the NMC said in a
press release.
The scheme ran
afoul of the southern
states which forced
the NMC to suspend
its decision on UG
medical seats in
states on the basis of
population. The
strongest opposition
came from Tamil
Nadu, Karnataka and
the Union territory
of Puducherry as
they and other south-
ern states would have been unable to increase the
number of their MBBS seats for the academic ses-
sion 2024-25.
The states of Bihar and Jharkhand would have
gained from the scheme as they are deficient states
in terms of MBBS seats which would have allowed
them to add more seats. Southern states of Kerala,
Telangana, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Andhra
Pradesh already have medical seats in excess of 100
for a population of 10 lakh. With Tamil Nadu Chief
Minister MK Stalin calling it an encroachment on the
rights of the state, the NMC will now be consulting
all stakeholders to rework the policy.

ROHIT ALL
THE WAY
When Rohit was picked in
the Indian team, way back
in 2007, he was regarded
as a prodigious talent. But
he never justified the label
as he wasn’t able to ce-
ment his position in the In-
dian ODI side. He admitted
that not being a part of the
2011 World Cup team was
a big blow for him. It was
MS Dhoni, who promoted
him to open the innings
in the Champions Trophy
2013 which became
his permanent spot.
Rohit validated his cap-
tain’s faith and now seems
a lot like Dhoni in the way
he has become a master
tactician on field! As India
gets ready for One final
dance to lift the coveted
ICC ODI trophy, Rohit has
the law of averages in
his favour. He has hit just
one century in the World
Cup so far, with a string of
scores in 40s. Indian fans
would certainly hope that a
big knock is waiting for
the ‘Hitman’ in the final!

ready to take on Australia
in the final, the whole
world is marvelling at the
brilliance of the ‘Men in
Blue’. To appreciate this
dominance of the Indian
side, one needs to recall
that after India’s crushing
loss to England in the
semi-finals of the T20
World Cup last year, skip-
per Rohit Sharma men-
tioned that he wants his
team to play an aggressive
brand of cricket. The lack
of which was the prime
reason for India’s defeat in
that knockout game. But
how this change would
come about, was still a big
question for most experts
and Indian fans.
Rohit was personally
under lots of pressure, cop-
ing with the criticism that
he didn’t perform to poten-
tial in crunch games, espe-
cially World Cup knock-
outs! In the last one year,
however, the Rohit-Dravid
duo have brought about a
huge turnaround. They
made many changes in the
team personnel eyeing the
ODI World Cup in India
whereby they experiment-
ed in batting positions
along with the approach of
each batter. Rohit’s own
style went for a complete
overhaul as he began at-
tacking and going after the
bowling from the word go.
But he wasn’t always suc-
cessful. Then came the
usual criticism and write
ups about how Rohit was
not in good nick. Experts
suggested that it wasn’t his
usual style to attack the
bowlers straightaway as he
was a player who built his
innings steadily and then
cut loose in a big way at
the end.
India had two batters of
similar mould in the top
order which prevented
them from posting big to-
tals, something which had
become the order of the
day after England changed
the ODI template a few
years ago. As the captain
and leader of the group,
Rohit took it upon himself
to take the challenge and
that effort has finally paid
off. A year down the line
Rohit has had a phenome-
nal impact in the World
Cup with his brisk, bellig-
erent knocks. He may not
have the hundreds but his
initial bursts and command
over the opposition bowl-
ers has put India in com-
fortable positions all along
the championship!
Rohit brought his new
game not just in the league
matches but also in the
semi-finals against the Ki-
wis. He slayed all the criti-
cism about him and the
Indian team that they never
played aggressive cricket
in knockout games. Bat-
ting first Rohit hit a 29 ball
47 with a strike rate of 162,
which provided a great
launchpad and put New
Zealand bowlers on the
backfoot. This start gave
the platform for Kohli and
the rest of the middle order
to stay ahead in the game
and put up a massive total.
While the headlines may
be about Kohli and Shami,
Rohit’s impact with his
batting should receive the
most accolades. Such has
been his six hitting form
that he surpassed the
mighty Chris Gayle to hit
maximum sixes in a single
World Cup. Though Rohit
now has the most number
of sixes in ODIs, it’s not all
about hitting. He has also
assessed situations well as
against England when In-
dian top order fell cheaply
but Rohit curbing his ag-
gression took India to a par
total.
Rohit’s batting form has
also rubbed on his captain-
cy. In the semis, India was
under the pump when Dar-
yl Mitchel and Kane Wil-
liamson stitched a 181-run
partnership and threatened
to take the game away. Ro-
hit asked his pacers to
bowl round the wicket and
had excellent field place-
ments for each batter. Lat-
er, Rohit brought in Kul-
deep after the 40th over, so
that he could have an extra
fielder on the boundary.
That proved a masterstroke
as Mark Chapman holed
out in trying to hit a six,
almost ensuring India’s
win with just a few overs
left.
When Rohit was picked
in the Indian team, way
back in 2007, he was re-
garded as a prodigious tal-
ent. But he never justified
the label as he wasn’t able
to cement his position in
the Indian ODI side. He
admitted that not being a

him. It was M.S. Dhoni,
who promoted him to open
the innings in the Champi-
ons Trophy 2013 which
became his permanent
spot. Rohit validated his
captain’s faith and now
seems a lot like Dhoni in
the way he has become a
master tactician on field!

ages in his favour. He has

Jaipur: It is said that
there is neither
permanent friendship nor
permanent enmity in
politics! Something similar
is happening in the politics
of Bikaner where Ravi
Meghwal was once thinking
of attacking Devi S Bhati
and had become active in
Dalit dominated areas of
Kolayat while preparing
himself to ask for a ticket
from BJP. Now, when his
father Arjun Meghwal
became friendly with Bhati,
Ravi Meghwal also started
campaigning in favor of
Devi Singh Bhati. After his
father’s request, Ravi did
not even ask for a ticket
from Khajuwala. The Bhati

OPS & other promises of Cong proved false in Himachal
Pankaj Soni
Jaipur
FormerHimachalPradesh
CM Jairam Thakur said
that not declaring a chief
ministerial candidate
from BJP in Rajasthan is
party’s election strategy.
Thakur, who is campaign-
ing for the assembly polls,
said that Congress cheat-
ed in Himachal in the
name of false guarantees,
but it is his only effort
that the people of Ra-
jasthan should not be-
come its victim. Some
excerpts from the conver-
sation of First India spe-
cial correspondent Pankaj
Soni with Jairam Thakur
on various issues.
What are the chances
of forming a BJP gov-
ernment in Rajasthan?
It seems that the public is
completely ready to
change the government.
All the guarantees of
Congress are completely
false. About 11 months
ago, assembly elections
were held in Himachal
Pradesh in which Con-
gress had given the same
guarantees as in Ra-
jasthan. Rajasthan CM
Ashok Gehlot said in a
press conference in
Shimla that Congress
leader Rahul Gandhi ful-
fills whatever he promis-
es.You had also promised
to waive off the entire
loan of farmers in Ra-
jasthan in 10 days, what
happened to it? Exactly in
this way the people of
Himachal were misled
with false guarantees.
The people of Rajasthan
need to understand that
they should not fall into
such false temptations.
The OPS was men-
tioned as the main issue
is ouster of your govt in
HP? Here too Congress
is promising the same.
All this is a thing of the
past now. Before forming
the govt in Himachal
Pradesh, Congress had
given 10 guarantees in
which it was said that
there are 22 lakh women
of the state aged between
18 years to 70 years, for
them a decision will be
taken in very first cabinet
meeting that Rs 1500 will
be deposited in their ac-
counts every month. Al-
most 12 months have
passed but till now not
even a single rupee has
come into the account of
any woman. Most of the
7 guarantees given so far
in Raj are same which
were given in Himachal.
BJP did not reveal the
CM face. It is like a wed-
ding procession without
a groom?
No. It’s not like that. The
central leadership of BJP
has taken this decision af-
ter careful consideration.
Who will become the
Chief Minister will be de-
cided after the formation
of the government with
the opinion of the MLAs.
What are main issues
in Rajasthan?
Corruption and paper
leak are big issues here.
In Rajasthan, the name of
Red Diary became asso-
ciated with CM Gehlot in
such a way that whenever
Red Diary is mentioned,
CM Gehlot’s nervous-
ness increases. A double
engine government is
very necessary for Ra-
jasthan, and in the up-
coming assembly elec-
tions, BJP will win with
full majority.

said that the Congress

while the BJP govern-

this while addressing a
huge public meeting or-

BSP candidates.
She appealed to vote
in favour of BSP candi-

Mayawati fiercely at-
tacked the Congress
saying that when the

Baba Saheb had de-
manded to give him the
title of Bharat Ratna,
but the Congress gov-

give him the honour.

“Ashok Gehlot did not

Assam is one third of Ra-

while addressing a public

ma in Chomu.
“If anywhere the price
of petrol and diesel is
high then it is Rajasthan
because Gehlot is filling
his treasury by looting
the poor. PM Modi’s di-
rect instructions are that
the electricity bill should
be the lowest in the BJP
ruled state. The price of

be the lowest,” he said.

Ahmedabad
After 20 long years, it
would be an opportunity
for India to take sweet re-
venge from Australia on
Sunday when the two
teams meet in the finals of
theICCMen’sWorldCup
at the Narendra Modi Sta-
dium in Ahmedabad. It
was in 2003 when the
Aussies had broken the
Indian dream of winning
the second World Cup in
South Africa.
There are many simi-
larities in both the 2003
and 2023 editions of the
ICC World Cup. In
2003, the Australian
team had consecutively
won 10 matches to reach
the finals. And now in
2023, the Indian team
has done the same by
winning 10 matches on
the trot and reaching the
finals unbeaten.
In both the editions of
2003 and 2023, Indian
batsmen were the highest
run-scorers. While in
2003 it was Sachin Ten-
dulkar with 673 runs, in
this edition of 2023, Virat
Kohli is the top run-get-
ter with 711 runs.
Another similarity for
India in both editions is a
“makeshift” wicketkeep-
er Rahul. In 2003, Rahul
Dravid had donned the
keeping gloves and had
shown an impressive per-
formancebothbehindand
in front of the stumps.
Dravid had scored 318
runs in 11 matches then.
Now in 2023, KL Rahul,
who wasn’t a regular
keeper for India, has
scored 386 runs in 10
games. Notably, KL Ra-
hul has got the chance of
keeping wickets for India
as the country’s regular
keeper Rishabh Pant is
recuperating from a seri-
ous injury that he suffered
in an accident last year.
While in 2003, Rahul
Dravid was the vice-cap-
tain, in 2023, KL Rahul
was made the vice-cap-
tain as Hardik Pandya got
injured during India’s
match against New Zea-
land in Dharamshala and
had to be left out.
As two famous sayings
go “records are meant to
be broken” and “history
repeats itself”, India
would be hoping and
praying that the first one
turns true as they would
want to break the notori-
ous record of Australia’s
dominance over them in
the crucial matches. If
India is able to win this
coveted title this time,
another popular saying of
the current era “Modi hai
to mumkin hai” would
come true as Prime Min-
ister Narendra Modi
would be watching the
match from the stands of
the stadium that has been
christened on his name.

es to the team and em-

maintain the same level
of performance dis-
played in the league

they will be a formidable
force to contend with.
“India is looking
smashing at the moment.
India have played very
well in the tournament,
and just one match and
Australia stand between
them and the World Cup
trophy. If India continue
to play like how they have
performed in the tourna-
ment so far, then it will be
tough to stop them. It will
be a good match as Aus-
tralia has a good team as
well,” he remarked.
INDIA VS AUSTRALIA FINAL
India would like to take a sweet revenge from Australia
of their World Cup final defeat 20 years ago in 2003
INDIA & AUSTRALIA CAN BE DECLARED JOINT WINNERS IF...
For the final, as well as the semifinals, ICC has kept the provi-
sion of one extra day (reserve day) to get an outcome of the
matches, besides more extra time. If the India-Australia match
is abandoned or there is no result at the end of the reserve day, both
the teams shall be declared joint winners. If the India-Australia match is
a tie, both the teams will compete in a Super Over, which will deter-
mine the winner. If the Super Over is also a tie, then subsequent Super
Overs will be played till a winner emerges. In the rare case of weather
or other conditions preventing the Super Over from being completed
even on the reserve day, the teams shall be declared joint winners.
Flight tickets fares have
gone up nearly 6 times.
While a flight ticket from
major cities to Ahmedabad
generally costs between `5,000 to
`6,000, the price are now around
`40,000. Due to the demand, some
airlines are now deploying extra
flights just for the match day.
The hotel room tariffs for
the night of the match
have gone up as high
as `2 lakh in top five-star

have also increased their rates
as there is an enthusiasm for the
match not only in India, but people

CM Ashok Gehlot said
on Friday that the BJP’s
manifesto for the upcom-

has no substance and the
public has been greatly
disappointed by it.
Asked about the saf-
fron party’s manifesto,
Gehlot told reporters at

nothing new. According
to me, they did not even

He said the plans that
the Congress government
has already implemented
or the guarantees that
have been promised by
the ruling party in the de-
sert state have been writ-
ten in a twisted manner in
the BJP’s manifesto.
“The public has been

the scene, but don't shy away from
experimenting with contrasting col-
ours to add that extra pop.
Moving on to the mesmerizing
mehndi ceremony, green takes cent-
er stage. Whether it's a saree, lehen-
ga, or an indo-western ensemble,
simplicity becomes the key to acing
the look. Minimalism paired with
elegance creates an aura of grace
that is sure to leave an impression.
Finally, for the grand wedding
day, the choice between the classic
red lehenga or shades of pink is
timeless. These traditional colors,
steeped in cultural significance,
continue to captivate hearts and
make a statement.
As you embark on this exciting
journey, remember that fashion is
not just about clothing; it's a reflec-
tion of your personality. Embrace
your style, experiment with colors,
and let the wedding festivities be-
come a canvas for your unique ex-
pression. Whether you opt for the
traditional or venture into modern
interpretations, let your fashion
choices tell a story as beautiful as
your love. Cheers to a season filled
with love, joy, and breathtaking
style!

Meanwhile, in Na- gaur, mandal presidents along with 10 candidates of BJP will be asked to appeal to more and more people from all assembly constituencies to attend PM Modi’s public meet- ing and for this responsi- bility has been fixed. For this road show of Modi, BJP has prepared theme of slogan ‘Jaipur Maange Modi, Modi Maange Rajasthan’. This slogan will be visible in the banners and posters to be put up for welcome. P8 ‘Jaipur Maange Modi, Modi Maange Rajasthan’, roadshow on Nov 21 Voters will have to decide their leaders: Priyanka Puneet Chaturvedi and PK Agarwal Dungarpur/Chittorgarh Congress leader Priyan- ka Gandhi Vadra on Fri- day said that the BJP is scattered in Rajasthan and it does not have a Chief Ministerial face for the upcoming State As- sembly polls. “The BJPis a scattered party in Rajasthan and it does not have a face for the CM’s post. The PM is roaming every corner of the state. Sometimes, it seems that he is out to find his Chief Ministerial face,” Gandhi said while addressing a poll rally at Sagwara in Dungarpur district. She said voters will have to decide what kind of leaders they want. “Modi is seeking votes in his name.Who will run the state? He will not come from Delhi to run the state, a local leader is needed for that,” she add- ed. Gandhi also asked the voters to be careful if emotions and religion are used with a design to get their votes. “If emotions and reli- gion are used in politics, one has to be careful. If your emotions are being used, then you will have to be careful and think whether they are working for you or just taking the name of religion,” Pri- yanka Gandhi said. CENTRAL GOVT SHOULD MAKE ‘RIGHT TO SOCIAL SECURITY’ LAW: GEHLOT Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, who went to the election rally with Priyanka Gandhi, made a political attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Sagwara and Chittorgarh, saying that PM Modi comes to make false allegations. Gehlot said that Sonia Gandhi and Manmohan Singh had passed 4 laws. “Now the Central Govern- ment should make the 5th law in the country - Right to Social Security. In this, every family gets monthly money. The allegations of the Prime Minister and his leaders have no merit. They do not have the courage to discuss the criticisms of their actions. We have given 10 guarantees. These include everything from insurance to social security schemes. They call themselves religious, but which of them served the cows in Lumpi. Our government gave Rs 40,000 to the cattle rearers. No government has done such work in the entire country,” CM Gehlot said. Anurag Thakur @ianuragthakur IN-DEPTH PAKISTANI CRAP ABOUT PITCHES & INDIA’S SHOW ndia’s stupendous performance in the ODI World Cup 2023 is like a dream. While fans are overjoyed and bubbling with hope of the Cup coming to India, there is no dearth of naysayers especially from Pakistan. A few Pakistani cricketers raised the bogey of pitches being swapped for an India match. One of them went to the extent of ques- tioning India captain Rohit Sharma for tossing the coin away from him to prevent the rival captain from reading it. All of them got a fitting rebuttal from other Pakistani cricketers like WasimAkram, Misbah ul Haq, Moin Khan and Shoaib Malik, all veterans of the game who are part of an informal show called The Pavilion. Former India captain Sunil Gavaskar also rub- bished the charge and called the pitch critics “mo- rons”. Everything depended on who won the toss. Kane Williamson, the New Zealand captain whose side lost to India in the semi-final, called the Wankhede surface “pretty good”. I NMC FORMULA FACES A SOUTHERN WALL n August the National Medical Commission (NMC) announced its decision to limit the undergraduate seats in each state. With the underlying idea being to improve the quality of educa- tion and to provide the undergraduate seats in each state were decided to be limited to 100 seats per 10 lakh population. “It is expected that this will reduce regional disparities in the availability of healthcare professionals and will go a long way in ensuring ef- fective quality of edu- cation. With this ratio there will still be po- tential for the addi- tion of about 40,000 MBBS seats in the country if the medical colleges are evenly distributed in states,” the NMC said in a press release. The scheme ran afoul of the southern states which forced the NMC to suspend its decision on UG medical seats in states on the basis of population. The strongest opposition came from Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and the Union territory of Puducherry as they and other south- ern states would have been unable to increase the number of their MBBS seats for the academic ses- sion 2024-25. The states of Bihar and Jharkhand would have gained from the scheme as they are deficient states in terms of MBBS seats which would have allowed them to add more seats. Southern states of Kerala, Telangana, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh already have medical seats in excess of 100 for a population of 10 lakh. With Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin calling it an encroachment on the rights of the state, the NMC will now be consulting all stakeholders to rework the policy. But he never justified the label as he wasn’t able to ce- ment his position in the In- dian ODI side. He admitted that not being a part of the 2011 World Cup team was a big blow for him. It was MS Dhoni, who promoted him to open the innings in the Champions Trophy 2013 which became his permanent spot. Rohit validated his cap- tain’s faith and now seems a lot like Dhoni in the way he has become a master tactician on field! As India gets ready for One final dance to lift the coveted ICC ODI trophy, Rohit has the law of averages in his favour. He has hit just one century in the World Cup so far, with a string of scores in 40s. Indian fans would certainly hope that a big knock is waiting for the ‘Hitman’ in the final! HITMANHEROICS KeytoIndia’sDreamRunatODIWorldCup Siddhaarth Mahan The writer is a specialist on Sports and Cinema who works as an actor in the Hindi film industry eaders walk the talk and exemplify through their own exam- ple! As Team India gets ready to take on Australia in the final, the whole world is marvelling at the brilliance of the ‘Men in Blue’. To appreciate this dominance of the Indian side, one needs to recall that after India’s crushing loss to England in the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup last year, skip- per Rohit Sharma men- tioned that he wants his team to play an aggressive brand of cricket. The lack of which was the prime reason for India’s defeat in that knockout game. But how this change would come about, was still a big question for most experts and Indian fans. Rohit was personally under lots of pressure, cop- ing with the criticism that he didn’t perform to poten- tial in crunch games, espe- cially World Cup knock- outs! In the last one year, however, the Rohit-Dravid duo have brought about a huge turnaround. They made many changes in the team personnel eyeing the ODI World Cup in India whereby they experiment- ed in batting positions along with the approach of each batter. Rohit’s own style went for a complete overhaul as he began at- tacking and going after the bowling from the word go. But he wasn’t always suc- cessful. Then came the usual criticism and write ups about how Rohit was not in good nick. Experts suggested that it wasn’t his usual style to attack the bowlers straightaway as he was a player who built his innings steadily and then cut loose in a big way at the end. India had two batters of similar mould in the top order which prevented them from posting big to- tals, something which had become the order of the day after England changed the ODI template a few years ago. As the captain and leader of the group, Rohit took it upon himself to take the challenge and that effort has finally paid off. A year down the line Rohit has had a phenome- nal impact in the World Cup with his brisk, bellig- erent knocks. He may not have the hundreds but his initial bursts and command over the opposition bowl- ers has put India in com- fortable positions all along the championship! Rohit brought his new game not just in the league matches but also in the semi-finals against the Ki- wis. He slayed all the criti- cism about him and the Indian team that they never played aggressive cricket in knockout games. Bat- ting first Rohit hit a 29 ball 47 with a strike rate of 162, which provided a great launchpad and put New Zealand bowlers on the backfoot. This start gave the platform for Kohli and the rest of the middle order to stay ahead in the game and put up a massive total. While the headlines may be about Kohli and Shami, Rohit’s impact with his batting should receive the most accolades. Such has been his six hitting form that he surpassed the mighty Chris Gayle to hit maximum sixes in a single World Cup. Though Rohit now has the most number of sixes in ODIs, it’s not all about hitting. He has also assessed situations well as against England when In- dian top order fell cheaply but Rohit curbing his ag- gression took India to a par total. Rohit’s batting form has also rubbed on his captain- cy. In the semis, India was under the pump when Dar- yl Mitchel and Kane Wil- liamson stitched a 181-run partnership and threatened to take the game away. Ro- hit asked his pacers to bowl round the wicket and had excellent field place- ments for each batter. Lat- er, Rohit brought in Kul- deep after the 40th over, so that he could have an extra fielder on the boundary. That proved a masterstroke as Mark Chapman holed out in trying to hit a six, almost ensuring India’s win with just a few overs left. When Rohit was picked in the Indian team, way back in 2007, he was re- garded as a prodigious tal- ent. But he never justified the label as he wasn’t able to cement his position in the Indian ODI side. He admitted that not being a part of the 2011 World Cup team was a big blow for him. It was M.S. Dhoni, who promoted him to open the innings in the Champi- ons Trophy 2013 which became his permanent spot. Rohit validated his captain’s faith and now seems a lot like Dhoni in the way he has become a master tactician on field! As India gets ready for One final dance to lift the coveted ICC ODI trophy, Rohit has the law of aver- ages in his favour. He has hit just one century in the World Cup so far, with a string of scores in 40s. In- dian fans would certainly hope that a big knock is waiting for the ‘Hitman’in the final! THE VIEWS EXPRESSED BY THE AUTHOR ARE PERSONAL As Team India gets ready to take on Australia in the final, the whole world is marvelling at the brilliance of the ‘Men in Blue’ . To appreciate this dominance of the Indian side, one needs to recall that after India’s crushing loss to England in the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup last year, skipper Rohit Sharma mentioned that he wants his team to play an aggressive brand of cricket. NAIM KHAN ‘NoCMface’isourstrategy:Thakur OPS & other promises of Cong proved false in Himachal Pankaj Soni Jaipur FormerHimachalPradesh CM Jairam Thakur said that not declaring a chief ministerial candidate from BJP in Rajasthan is party’s election strategy. Thakur, who is campaign- ing for the assembly polls, said that Congress cheat- ed in Himachal in the name of false guarantees, but it is his only effort that the people of Ra- jasthan should not be- come its victim. Some excerpts from the conver- sation of First India spe- cial correspondent Pankaj Soni with Jairam Thakur on various issues. What are the chances of forming a BJP gov- ernment in Rajasthan? It seems that the public is completely ready to change the government. All the guarantees of Congress are completely false. About 11 months ago, assembly elections were held in Himachal Pradesh in which Con- gress had given the same guarantees as in Ra- jasthan. Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot said in a press conference in Shimla that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi ful- fills whatever he promis- es.You had also promised to waive off the entire loan of farmers in Ra- jasthan in 10 days, what happened to it? Exactly in this way the people of Himachal were misled with false guarantees. The people of Rajasthan need to understand that they should not fall into such false temptations. The OPS was men- tioned as the main issue is ouster of your govt in HP? Here too Congress is promising the same. All this is a thing of the past now. Before forming the govt in Himachal Pradesh, Congress had given 10 guarantees in which it was said that there are 22 lakh women of the state aged between 18 years to 70 years, for them a decision will be taken in very first cabinet meeting that Rs 1500 will be deposited in their ac- counts every month. Al- most 12 months have passed but till now not even a single rupee has come into the account of any woman. Most of the 7 guarantees given so far in Raj are same which were given in Himachal. BJP did not reveal the CM face. It is like a wed- ding procession without a groom? No. It’s not like that. The central leadership of BJP has taken this decision af- ter careful consideration. Who will become the Chief Minister will be de- cided after the formation of the government with the opinion of the MLAs. What are main issues in Rajasthan? Corruption and paper leak are big issues here. In Rajasthan, the name of Red Diary became asso- ciated with CM Gehlot in such a way that whenever Red Diary is mentioned, CM Gehlot’s nervous- ness increases. A double engine government is very necessary for Ra- jasthan, and in the up- coming assembly elec- tions, BJP will win with full majority. Accusing Con- gress of playing reli- gious politics, Joshi reiterated BJP’s com- mitment to the inclu- sive development man- tra of “Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas.” The State President’s comments come in the wake of Priyanka Vadra’s remarks, high- lighting the need for a fair and unbiased ap- proach to governance, ensuring equal oppor- tunities and respect for all communities. MUKESH KIRADOO I Would“Modihaitomumkinhai”turntrue? Sharat K Verma Ahmedabad After 20 long years, it would be an opportunity for India to take sweet re- venge from Australia on Sunday when the two teams meet in the finals of theICCMen’sWorldCup at the Narendra Modi Sta- dium in Ahmedabad. It was in 2003 when the Aussies had broken the Indian dream of winning the second World Cup in South Africa. There are many simi- larities in both the 2003 and 2023 editions of the ICC World Cup. In 2003, the Australian team had consecutively won 10 matches to reach the finals. And now in 2023, the Indian team has done the same by winning 10 matches on the trot and reaching the finals unbeaten. In both the editions of 2003 and 2023, Indian batsmen were the highest run-scorers. While in 2003 it was Sachin Ten- dulkar with 673 runs, in this edition of 2023, Virat Kohli is the top run-get- ter with 711 runs. Another similarity for India in both editions is a “makeshift” wicketkeep- er Rahul. In 2003, Rahul Dravid had donned the keeping gloves and had shown an impressive per- formancebothbehindand in front of the stumps. Dravid had scored 318 runs in 11 matches then. Now in 2023, KL Rahul, who wasn’t a regular keeper for India, has scored 386 runs in 10 games. Notably, KL Ra- hul has got the chance of keeping wickets for India as the country’s regular keeper Rishabh Pant is recuperating from a seri- ous injury that he suffered in an accident last year. While in 2003, Rahul Dravid was the vice-cap- tain, in 2023, KL Rahul was made the vice-cap- tain as Hardik Pandya got injured during India’s match against New Zea- land in Dharamshala and had to be left out. As two famous sayings go “records are meant to be broken” and “history repeats itself”, India would be hoping and praying that the first one turns true as they would want to break the notori- ous record of Australia’s dominance over them in the crucial matches. If India is able to win this coveted title this time, another popular saying of the current era “Modi hai to mumkin hai” would come true as Prime Min- ister Narendra Modi would be watching the match from the stands of the stadium that has been christened on his name. ‘It will be tough to stop team India...’: Dada ahead of WC final against Aussies Former India captain Sourav Ganguly (Dada)commendedRohit Sharma’s ‘Men in Blue’ ahead of the World Cup 2023 final on Sunday. The ex-president of the BCCI expressed his ad- miration for Team India, describing them as ‘look- ing smashing.’Ganguly conveyed his best wish- es to the team and em- phasised that if India maintain the same level of performance dis- played in the league phase & the semi-final, they will be a formidable force to contend with. “India is looking smashing at the moment. India have played very well in the tournament, and just one match and Australia stand between them and the World Cup trophy. If India continue to play like how they have performed in the tourna- ment so far, then it will be tough to stop them. It will be a good match as Aus- tralia has a good team as well,” he remarked. INDIA VS AUSTRALIA FINAL India would like to take a sweet revenge from Australia of their World Cup final defeat 20 years ago in 2003 INDIA & AUSTRALIA CAN BE DECLARED JOINT WINNERS IF... For the final, as well as the semifinals, ICC has kept the provi- sion of one extra day (reserve day) to get an outcome of the matches, besides more extra time. If the India-Australia match is abandoned or there is no result at the end of the reserve day, both the teams shall be declared joint winners. If the India-Australia match is a tie, both the teams will compete in a Super Over, which will deter- mine the winner. If the Super Over is also a tie, then subsequent Super Overs will be played till a winner emerges. In the rare case of weather or other conditions preventing the Super Over from being completed even on the reserve day, the teams shall be declared joint winners. Flight tickets fares have gone up nearly 6 times. While a flight ticket from major cities to Ahmedabad generally costs between `5,000 to `6,000, the price are now around `40,000. Due to the demand, some airlines are now deploying extra flights just for the match day.
