clime is ready to
change as the two time
Chief MInister Deven-
dra Fadnavis is set to
come at helm of the
state’s polity, for the
third time. Returning to ‘power’ after
a brief hiatus of two and a half year,
a young (in political parlance) and
dynamic leader, Fadnavis is quite lit-
erally the ‘turn-around man’ for the
state’s politics.
Political observers claim that Fad-
navis was ‘back-stabbed’ by allies and
his government had to come down,
following which the MVA govern-
ment was formed, however, as they
say, politics is a game of patience and
the 51 year old showed maturity in
leading the BJP legislative party in
assembly as LoP.
One of the most remarkable quali-
ties of Devendra Fadnavis was that
he continued to do what he does best,
work for the people. In the last 2.5
years, he was at the forefront of eve-
ry issue whether covid or other ca-
lamities and went across the length
and breadth of Maharastra to ensure
that government of the day acts re-
sponsibly. His work time continued
the same of spending more than 18
hours every single day addressing
various issues grappling the state. He
never forgot that his role as opposi-
tion was to ensure Govt of the day
functions with responsibility and
completes its promise of delivering
their commitments to the people.
People always came first for Deven-
dra Fadnavis.
And while carrying out his consti-
tutional duties, towards the House,
he played on the political pitch too as
he headed party’s electoral cam-
paigns in Bihar and Goa, ensuring
BJP gets the ‘power-pie’, while his
recent ‘surgical strikes’ during Rajya
SabhapollsandMLCelectionsproved
that he is a smart and competent pol-
itician.
Notably, In Fadnavis’s front team,
in scheme of things, his OSD - Kaus-
tubh Dhavse - also played a key role
in assisting Fadnavis in carrying out
all his ‘home work’ during his Chief
Ministerial and LoP days.

heart and his unstinting support to all those

that treat it not as a barrier but as a great fa-
cilitator,makeshimtheidolof ayoungIndia!
In1995-96whenourfirstgovtwasformed,
there was a five-day meeting in Chharodi.
I came in contact with Modiji at a personal
level and even as I recollect my interaction
with Modiji of those years, I am filled with
emotion. His persona has always been that
of an extremely emotional and a simple
person who harbours and nurtures feel-
ings of compassion for his fellow mates.
Once it happened during that 4 day long
session that all mins were within the prem-
ises for a meeting and their drivers were
sitting outside. Modiji came to me and gave
his special standing instruction to me “Al-
ways serve food to the drivers first”. He
stated a simple reason that supported this
instruction. He explained to me that since
the drivers are always moving around with
us, whether it is day or night and their duty
is extremely tough, they need to be taken
care of. They do a selfless service for us
which goes much beyond their call of duty
.
The salary the drivers receive is not ade-
quate reward for their devotion. Therefore,
we should keep their needs foremost in our
mind. Where do we find a world leader so
acutely aware of the difficulties of the coo-
mon man? I was really very fortunate to
have got a chance to know Modiji’s thought-
process and ideology from a closer angle.
Not just this, we also could see that Modi-
ji possessed a deep know-how of technology
and had a keen foresight when it came to
technicalapplications.Heusedtoliveinone
of the rooms of Maninagar RSS Bhawan at
that time. One day he asked me if I had a
tech-savvy friend who could help him
get a computer. I said I had one, Anil
Patel, who had a tech business.
Anil is in Canada now. Well I ar-
ranged for a meeting between
Narendraji and my friend
and I must admit, I was in
awe of Modiji when I wit-
nessed him interacting with
Anil. Modiji held a discussion
withAnilPatelfornearlyhalf
an hour pertaining to comput-
ers. I am talking about an era
which can easily be termed as
the dawn of the computer age in
India. Computers was a new sub-
jectinourcountryanditwasextremelyrare
tofindsomeonepossessingsuchdeepknowl-
edge of computers. Also people of Modiji’s
ageinthosedayswerenotusuallyinterested
in this field, and one could forget about dis-
cussing the subject at length with someone.
Well, after talking through the intrica-
cies of computer applications, Modiji
asked Anil if he would mind getting him a
computer. Anil agreed readily and then
Modiji worked on it, learning more about
computer applications. In the 90’s era wit-
nessing a well-known leader display such
interest and ability at computers was a
clear inspiration for me.
I also recall another motivating aspect of
his personality
. His room at Maninagar RSS
Bhawan was 10 feet by 10 feet. In the middle
of theroomwashisbed.Andbelievemeyou,
when I used to visit him, I could see that he
was engulfed within a sea of books. He had
stacked up books up to a height of 6 feet
around the bed and in the middle of this
ocean of knowledge, Modiji used to be seat-
ed, always engrossed in deep study
. On his
forehead, there used to be the white mark of
purity
, which is the chandan leip (sandal-
wood paste) as we know it. That vision of
Modiji, a simple man wearing a dhoti, his
face resplendent in the light of wisdom, his
physical presence like that of an ascetic, a
divine light shone on him as he sat in middle
of a room on a bed surrounded with innu-
merable books touching ceiling – well, it is
notpossibleforanyonewhohasbeenwitness
to that vision to remove it from his living
memory! Such was the aura, power, I would
say a magnetic pull, of Modiji’s persona.
I only consider myself extremely fortu-
nate because this visage, this divine ap-
pearance, manifested itself to me during
those 4 days! And I can say it with convic-
tion, in fact I have no doubt about it, what
Modiji is doing for our country and the
world, he is doing it because he is inspired
by some divine force. Our PM is no ordi-
nary mortal. All his actions are guided by
a calling that goes much deeper and all his
works are invariably imbued with the fra-
grance of spirituality and wisdom.

Mumbai: Even as the
fate of the Maharash-
tra government hung
in the balance, the
state cabinet on
Wednesday approved
the renaming of Au-
rangabad city as
Sambhajinagar and
that of Osmanabad
city as Dharashiv.
The decision on the
emotive issue of renam-
ing of the historical
city of Aurangabad
came even as the Shiv
Sena, which heads the
ruling MVA coalition,
faced a rebellion by the
majority of its MLAs.
The cabinet meeting
chaired by the belea-
guered Chief Minister
Uddhav Thackeray also
approved the naming of
the upcoming Navi
Mumbai international
airport after the late
farmer leader, DB Patil.
Interestingly
, state
planning agency CIDCO
had earlier proposed to
name the Navi Mumbai
airportafterthelateBal-
asaheb Thackeray
, the
founder of the Shiv
Sena. After the Shiv
Sena broke off its alli-
ance with the BJP and
joined hands with the
Congress and NCP to
form the Maha Vikas
Agahdi government, the
BJP had often reminded
the Sena of its own old
demand to rename Au-
rangabad,whichderives
its name from Mughal
emperor Aurangzeb.

ered. Congress had

Thackeray chaired
a cabinet meeting
here while the hear-
ing on his govern-
ment’s petition chal-
lenging the gover-
nor’s directive to con-
duct a floor test to
prove majority was
underway. An official
said that Thackeray
told his cabinet col-
leagues that he had
been betrayed by his
own people.
“I also apologize if
I have hurt anyone un-
intentionally,” the of-
ficial quoting Thack-
eray as saying.
The ministers
clapped after Thack-
eray addressed the
meeting, he added.
The official also
said the chief minis-
ter did not say any-
thing or hint that he
was planning to quit
before a possible trust
vote on Thursday

Meanwhile, Con-
gress minister Sunil
Kedar, who spoke to
reporters after the
meeting, said Thack-
eray had also thanked
his cabinet colleagues
for the cooperation
they had extended in
the past 2.5 years.
Thackeray had al-

chartered flight and

Pednekar on Wednes-
day said she has re-
ceived a letter at her
Lower Parel address
threatening to kill her
and her family. She
lodged a complaint with
Byculla police station
after receiving the let-
ter, which was replete
with vulgar language,
and warned her that
she, along with her son
and husband, would be
killed once “a new gov-
ernment” comes to
power, she said.
She had received a
similar threat letter
sent by the same per-
son, who identified
himself as ‘Vijendra

Mumbai: A Memo-
randum of Under-
standing (MoU) was
signed by the Maha-
rashtra government’s
energy department
on Tuesday with Ada-
ni Green Energy
Group Ltd (AGEL) to
generate 11,000 MW
green power in the
next five years.
It would entail an in-
vestment of `60,000
crore and provide em-
ployment to 30,000 peo-
ple, a statement from
the government said.
According to the agree-
ment, AGEL will set up
Pumped Storage Pro-
jects (PSP) in the next
four to five years,
through which about
11,000 MW power will
be generated, said a
statement issued by
the state energy
department.
The state will reap
many benefits from
PSPs which will gener-
ate or store electricity
with the help of non-
conventional energy
sources, it said, adding
that they will be espe-
cially useful for imme-
diate power generation
in case of shortage.
The MoU was signed
by Narayan Karad, dep-
uty secretary, Depart-
ment of Energy, Maha-
rashtra and Ajit Baro-
dia, senior vice-presi-
dent, Adani Industries
Group. Under secretary
Nanasaheb Dhone and
associate vice-president
of AGEL Akshay Ma-
thur were also present
on the occasion.

and Principal Secretary

Palghar: Two persons from West Bengal have
been arrested in connection with the theft of gold
jewellery worth over `25 lakh in Palghar district,
police said on Wednesday. The accused, Naseem
Sirajali Mullah, and Allauddin Munaf Shaikh, who
worked in a factory here, had stolen valuables
worth `25.13 lakh from their employer and fled
on June 06, senior inspector Sampatrao Patil
said. The police examined CCTV footages, worked
on intelligence inputs and conducted searches in
Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh and West Bengal. The
duo was arrested from West Bengal and stolen
ornaments worth `21.17 lakh were seized from
their possession.
Mumbai: Actor Swara Bhasker has received
a death threat in a letter sent to her Verso-
va residence, following
which Mumbai police have
launched an investigation,
an official said on Wednes-
day. After receiving the letter,
Swara Bhasker approached
Versova police station two
days back and lodged a
complaint against unidentified persons. “Based
on the complaint, we have registered a non-cog-
nizable offence against unidentified persons,” he
said. The letter, written in Hindi, mentions that the
youth of the country will not tolerate the insult of
Veer Savarkar.

Palghar: An agri-
culture officer has
been arrested for
allegedly accepting
a bribe of `7,000
in Palghar district,
an official from the
Anti-Corruption
Bureau (ACB) said on
Wednesday. Based
on a complaint, the
ACB laid a trap on
Tuesday and caught
Santosh Pawar, the
taluka agricultural
officer at Dahanu,
while accepting the
bribe amount, deputy
superintendent of
police (ACB Palghar)
Navnath Jagtap
said. The accused
demanded `10,000
for not taking action
against the com-
plainant, who owns
an agri centre, for
failing to make online
entries of certain
sales and purchases.
Palghar: A fire broke
out at a chemical
unit in the industrial
area of Palghar dis-
trict on Wednesday.
No one was injured
and no casualties
were reported in the
incident. The blaze
erupted at the unit
located in Boisar
MIDC around 12.30
am on Wednesday,
following which the
fire brigade was
pressed into service,
the official from the
Palghar police con-
trol room said. The
fire was doused after
a five-hour operation
around 5.30 am, he
said, adding that the
exact cause of the
blaze is yet to be as-
certained. According
locals, thick smoke
and flames were
seen in the premises
due to the blaze.
Mumbai: The Bombay High Court on Wednes-
day directed the National Investigation Agency
(NIA) to file an affidavit
detailing the status of
the trial in the 2008
Malegaon blast case,
which is underway in
a special court here.
A bench of Justices
Revati Mohite Dere and
VG Bisht directed the
probe agency to inform the high court of the
status of the trial and the number of witnesses
examined so far. The NIA has been asked to
file the affidavit within two weeks.

Mumbai (PTI): A leop-
ard was safely rescued
from a school in the
Bimbisar Nagar area
of Goregaon (East) on
Wednesday, officials
said. The big cat had
entered the premises
on Tuesday night and
was first spotted by a
security guard.
After receiving a dis-
tress call, the Mumbai
range rescue team of
the Thane forest
department and a team
from Sanjay Gandhi
National Park (SGNP)
rescued the feline,
which had been hiding
in the school’s wash-
room, in the early hours
of the day
.
The leopard was tran-
quillized before being
rescued from the prem-
ises, as redirecting it to
the forests was not pos-
sible, they said, adding
that it was later shifted
to SGNP for medical ex-
amination, before being
released into the wild.

Mumbai: Some flat
owners and others
have been booked in a
case of culpable homi-
cide not amounting to
murder by the Mum-
bai police in connec-
tion with the collapse
of a building in subur-
ban Kurla that killed
19 persons and injured
15 others, an official
said on Wednesday
.
Although the Brihan-
mumbai Municipal
Corporation (BMC) had
declared the building as
dangerous to live in,
some flat owners, in-
cluding Rajni Rathod,
Kishore Chavan,
Balkrishna Rathod and
Dilip Vishwas rented
the flats to tenants, he
said adding that they
were booked.
Accordingly, an of-
fence under Indian Pe-
nal Code (IPC) sections
304 (2) (culpable homi-
cide not amounting to
murder), 308 (attempt to
commit culpable homi-
cide), 338 (causing
grievous hurt by act en-
dangering life or per-
sonal safety of others),
337 (causing hurt by act
endangering life or per-
sonal safety of others)
and 34 (common inten-
tion) was registered
against these flat own-
ers and others at
Nehrunagar police sta-
tion, he said.
The incident had oc-
curred around Monday
midnight in the ground-
plus three-storey build-
ing at Naik Nagar Co-
operative Housing Soci-
ety Senior BMC offi-
cials had said that the
residents of the build-
ing, constructed in 1973,
had undertaken to car-
ry out repairs, but ap-
parently no repairs
were carried out.

Mumbai: A major accident
was averted on Monday
night after alert railway staff
switched off power, and
drivers of the Bhagalpur
Mumbai Express stopped
the speeding train in time
after spotting a tree that had
fallen on the tracks near
Parsik tunnel. It was at
8.46 pm that an RPF official
informed the station master
at Thane and also RPF
Control Room regarding the
fallen tree between Thane
and Parsik on the fifth line.
“Acting swiftly, our staff
swung into action to switch
off power for safety reasons
at 8.48 pm,” Central Railway
chief public relations officer
Shivaji Sutar said.

bourers died and

a lift accident at a
construction site
on Tuesday in
Taloja area of Navi
Mumbai.
The incident took
place at the Taloja
Phase 2 CIDCO
Housing Project, and
the deceased labour-

gaged by BG Shirke
construction firm.
“The lift used for
construction materi-
als crashed along
with six workers,
killing four and in-
juring two. The pro-
cess of registering
an offence is under-
way,” Inspector Ji-

Thane: A 52-year-old
man was killed and
his wife severely in-
jured after a building
collapsed in Kalyan
town of Thane dis-
trict on Wednesday
.
According to a civic
fire station official,
the ground-plus-two-
story structure col-
lapsed around 6.15 am,
and the couple were
the only residents of
the building in the
Rambaug area of
town.
Firemen rushed to
the spot and extricated
the couple trapped in
the debris. The body
of Suryakant Kakad
was pulled out of the
rubble, while his
50-year-old wife, who
was injured, was
rushed to a hospital,
the official said.
It was not known if
the building has been
declared dangerous
and inhabitable by the
civic authorities.

Mumbai: The careless-
ness of the railways as
well as poor quality of
manufacturing and
upkeep have led to the
deteriorating condi-
tion of the once iconic
and prestigious Mum-
bai-Pune Deccan
Queen train.
The roof of one of the
toilets in the air-condi-
tioned C2 coach of the
brand new Deccan
Queen train came
crashing down while on
the run on Monday
.
Railway Pravasi
Group member Harsha
Shah, who brought the
incident to light, said,
“The incident took
place after the train left
Pune and was near Lon-
avala. The roof ceiling
could have led to inju-
ries if anyone was us-
ing the toilet.”
Although no one was
injured in the incident,
passengers have ex-
pressed concerns about
the safety and quality
of the new train, which
was introduced on June
22 with brand new LHB
coaches.
There were also com-
plaints of leakages and
new vinyls coming off,
just a few days after its
introduction.

that the Congress party
has fallen alone in Ma-
harashtra. In the Rajya
Sabha elections, its can-
didate Imran Pratap-
garhi won, but the sec-
ond Congress candidate
could not win in the
Legislative Council
elections. The first can-
didate and Mumbai Re-
gional Congress Presi-
dent Bhai Jagtap also
won in the second
round of counting.
Even in his victory, less
of the party and his
own influence came in
handy. Congress has 44
MLAs but got only 41
votes. This means that
three MLAs did cross
voting. The question is,
where did these three
MLAs go? Did they vote
for BJP or go for NCP in
alliance? Keep in mind
that voting in the Legis-
lative Council elections
was done by secret bal-
lot. However, informed
sources say that the
leaders of both Shiv
Sena and NCP are an-
gry with the aggressive
politics of party’s state

While all eyes were set on
extension of GST com-
pensation mechanism for
states and a highest 28 %
tax rate on online gaming,

a Group of Ministers report
on online gaming, casinos,
horse racing deferred. GoM
will now submit sugges-
tions on regulations in 15
days. The GOM, headed by
Meghalaya CM Sangma,
had recommended that
online gaming should be
taxed at full value.

New Delhi (PTI): The
Indian Air Force (IAF)
has received over 1.83
lakh applications under
the Agnipath recruit-
ment scheme within six
days of the registration
process, an official com-
munication said.The
registration process
that began on June 24
had seen filing of 94,281
applications by Mon-
day, and 56,960 applica-
tions till Sunday
.
After the scheme was
unveiled on June 14, vi-
olent protests against it
rocked several states for
nearly a week, and sev-
eral opposition parties
demanded its rollback.
“So far, 1,83,634 future
Agniveers have applied
on the registration web-
site. Registration closes
on July 5, 2022,” the IAF
said on Twitter. Under
the scheme, the govern-
ment had said youths
between the ages of
17-and-a-half and 21
years would be induct-
ed for a four-year-ten-
ure, while 25 per cent of
them will be subse-

after five more people

24.92 lakh people have
been affected by the
floods in 28 districts of
Assam, reported PTI.
On Monday, 21.52 lakh

tra, after the BJP, it is

best performance. Al-
though the NCP has 53
MLAs in the Assembly,
two of its MLAs - Anil
Deshmukh and Nawab
Malik - are in jail, who
were not allowed to cast
their votes. Thus its ef-
fective strength of
MLAs is 51. Despite
this, its two candidates
got 56 votes in the Leg-
islative Council elec-
tions. First candidate
Eknath Khadse got 29
votes and second candi-
date Ramraje Nim-
balkar got 27 votes. So
the question really is,
from where did Pawar’s
party juggle five extra
votes? After the elec-
tion, Eknath Khadse
said that his old friends
in BJP did cross-voting
for him. Keep in mind
that Khadse was in the
BJP in the past but his
claim is not entirely
true.
BJP leaders have not
done cross voting. Had
BJP leaders done cross-
voting, the number of
votes polled by its five
candidates would not
have reached 133. So, it
seems that by talking to
the smaller parties and
independent MLAs sup-
porting the govern-
ment,theNCPgarnered
five extra votes for it-
self. It is also clear that
Pawar left both the al-
lies on their own terms
or ensured that both of
them suffer. Keep in

didates of Shiv Sena

BMC RIGGED LEGAL SCAM
TO BENEFIT OCTROI MAFIA

Mumbai: The Indus-
trial Court in Mumbai
on Tuesday quashed
charge sheets against
octroi inspectors (OIs)
and the punishments
meted out to them in
11 different cases,
bringing the spotlight
on a scam perpetrated
for years by a vested
political-bureaucratic
nexus in the Brihan-
mumbai Municipal
Corporation (BMC).
The court also pulled
up the BMC for flout-
ing a Bombay High
Court ruling of 2008
with its inquiry rules.
According to those
close to the issue, con-
scientious OIs were de-
moted for attempting to
flag the corruption,
whichwouldberevealed
during random checks
of vehicles that had al-
ready been cleared at
octroi checkposts.
Advocate Prakash
Devdas, who has repeat-
edly and successfully
fought the case for 11
suchOIssaid,“SomeOIs
with 25 years of service
were demoted to
paygrades they enjoyed
25 years before, as clerks
with a meagre basic sal-
ary component. Their
servicetenurecontinued
but they were back to
squareone,aswhenthey
had first joined civic ser-
vice as freshers.”
The court accepted
the argument made by
advocates Prakash Dev-
dasandVidulaPatilthat
the entire inquiry
should be quashed as
the Karu letter issued to
all of them was not in
line with the standard
standing order of the
Bombay High Court is-
sued in 2008.
“The civic corpora-
tion incurs huge legal
costs annually in crores
of rupees doled out to
senior legal counsels to
challenge the orders of
lower courts, right up to
the Supreme Court, of
India knowing full well
the cases would be dis-
missed as it flouted the
High Court benchmark
set by Justice DY Chan-
drachdu (currently a
Justice of the Supreme
Court of India),” it said.
It would have been far
simpler to adhere to the
2008 High Court order
than to continue with
the flawed inquiry pro-
cess as followed by the
BMC that would not be
open to legal challenge.
Even Octroi evaders got
away in court citing the
inquiries against these
OIs, the court obseved.
But then, it is suspect-
ed that under-the-table
commissions from the
private legal firms as
referral fees were doled
out to civic officials,
staffers in the legal de-
partmentandunscrupu-
lous politicians elected
so the legal scam contin-
ued unabated. Former
BMC Commissioner
Pravin Pardeshi had
promised to rectify the
anomaly but was since
moved out.

Mumbai: The state
capital Mumbai re-
mained dry for the
first 10 days of June
and rainfall activity
began only after the
monsoon arrived
over Mumbai.
The India Meteoro-
logical Department
(IMD) has now predict-
ed heavy rainfall for
June 30.
According to IMD
Mumbai, from June 1
the Colaba observatory
recorded the total rain-
fall of 296.8 mm, while
the Santacruz observa-
tory recorded a total
rainfall of 230.4 mm.
This year, Mumbai
is yet to experience
typical Monsoon rains.
The rainfall activity
has mostly been mod-
erate. In fact, not a sin-
gle spell of heavy rain
has been observed thus
far. In terms of statis-
tics, Santa Cruz has
received approximate-
ly 250 mm of rain so
far, compared to the
monthly June average
of 493 mm.
Mumbai is now ex-
pected to experience
some light rain while
isolated pockets may ex-
perience heavy rain on
the last day of June.
These rains are most
likely caused by an off-
shore trough along the
West Coast, as well as a
cyclonic circulation
over Madhya Pradesh
andneighbouringstates.

eted QS rankings has
placed Mumbai as
the highest-ranked
city in India for Best
Student Cities. The
other cities that
made it to the list of
top 140 cities for in-
ternational students
include Bengaluru,
Chennai and Delhi.
Mumbai, which has
a global ranking of 103,
gets a high score in ‘af-
fordability’ parameter
but struggles in ‘stu-
dent mix’ and ‘desira-
bility’. It is followed by
Bengaluru (114). India
doubled its representa-
tion with two new en-
tries this year--Chen-
nai (125) and Delhi
(129). International
students represent
only a small fraction of
the overall student
body in India. Accord-
ing to the All India Sur-
vey on Higher Educa-
tion (AISHE) 2018-19,
the number of interna-
tional students en-
rolled in Indian univer-
sities was just 47,427.
India seeks to attract
2,00,000 international
students, more than
four times the current
total, by the end of
2023, a goal which may
need to be reviewed as
it was set prior to the
COVID-19 pandemic,
which has deeply af-
fected international
students mobility
.

met with the VBA chief

planned rallies and told

terms that police lathi

Pandey, who was
privy to intelligence re-
ports citing plans to
stoke the violent situa-
tion in Mumbai, went a
step further and told
Ambedkar:“If thestreet
violence escalates and
there is arson, those (ar-
sonists) at the forefront
will be shot right be-
tween the eyes.”
His words had the de-
sired effect; the large-
scale protests were sim-
ply put off.
More recently, amid
the ongoing political
turmoil, Pandey nipped
the issue in the bud, en-
suring that violence did
not spill out onto Mum-
bai’s streets. There has
only been one instance
of vandalism in Mum-
bai, where irate Sainiks
vandalized the office of
rebel Shiv Sena MLA
Mangesh Kudalkar--a
fact largely attributed to
Pandey’s clamping
down on the situation,
even though the Shive
Sena holds the reins in
Maharashtra.

32-yr-old man killed over parking
dispute in Pune; four arrested

Pune: Four people
were arrested for al-
legedly attacking and
killing a 32-year-old
man over a parking
dispute outside a res-
taurant in Pune, police
said on Wednesday
.
The incident took
place in Ambegaon area
on June 26, in which the
victim was killed.
According to the po-
lice, following an argu-
ment over vacating a
parking space outside a
restaurant in Ambe-
gaon the accused bru-
tally thrashed the vic-
tim. The victim was the
son of a retired inspec-
tor general rank offi-
cial, it was stated.
“After beating up the
victim, the accused took
him to a deserted spot,
where they abandoned
him. On the morning of
June 27, the police re-
ceivedacallaboutabody
lying in the area,” a sen-
ior police officer said.
The victim’s spleen
was ruptured in the at-
tack, causing his death.
“WeexaminedaCCTV
footage, in which four
people were seen attack-
ing the victim and they
have been arrested,” the
official said, adding, a
case has been registered
with Bharti Vidyapeeth
police station and a fur-
ther probe is on.

the blood, reveals a new
study published in eLife.
The findings suggest
that eating up to one egg
per day may help lower
the risk of developing
cardiovascular disease.
Eggs are a rich source
of dietary cholesterol,
but they also contain a
varietyof essentialnutri-
ents. There is conflicting
evidence as to whether
egg consumption is ben-
eficial or harmful to
heart health.
A 2018 study published
in the journal Heart,
which included approxi-
mately half a million
adults in China, found
that those who ate eggs
daily (about one egg per
day) had a substantially
lower risk of heart dis-
ease and stroke than
those who ate eggs less
frequently
.
Now, to better under-
stand this relationship,
the authors of this work
have carried out a popu-
lation-based study ex-
ploring how egg con-
sumption affects mark-
ers of cardiovascular
health in the blood.
Few studies have
looked at the role that
plasma cholesterol me-
tabolism plays in the
association between
egg consumption and
theriskof cardiovascu-
lardiseases,sowewant-
ed to help address this
gap, explains first au-
thorLangPan,MScatthe
Peking University, Bei-
jing, China.
EGGS CAN BOOST
HEART HEALTH
Pan and the team select-
ed 4,778 participants
from the China Ka-
doorie Biobank, of
whom 3,401 had car-
diovascular disease
and 1,377 did not. They
used a technique called
targeted nuclear magnet-
ic resonance to measure
225metabolitesinplasma
samples taken from the
participants' blood. Of
these metabolites, they
identified24thatwereas-
sociated with self-report-
ed levels of egg consump-
tion.Their analyses
showed that individuals
who ate a moderate
amountof eggshadhigh-
er levels of a protein in
their blood called apoli-
poprotein A1 — a build-
ing block of high-density
lipoprotein (HDL), also
known as 'good lipopro-
tein'. These individuals
especiallyhadmorelarge
HDL molecules in their
blood, which help clear
cholesterol from the
bloodvesselsandthereby
protectagainstblockages
that can lead to heart at-
tacks and stroke.
The researchers fur-
theridentified14metabo-
lites that are linked to
heartdisease.Theyfound
that participants who ate
fewer eggs had lower lev-
els of beneficial metabo-
lites and higher levels of
harmful ones in their
blood, compared to those
who ate eggs more
regularly
.Together, our
results provide a poten-
tial explanation for how
eating a moderate
amount of eggs can
help protect
against heart
disease, says author As-

More studies are needed
to verify the causal roles
that lipid metabolites
play in the association
between egg consump-
tion and the risk of car-
diovascular disease.
This study may also
have implications for
Chinese national dietary

lines in China suggest
eating one egg a day, but

some insides of your journey?
Ever since I was a little girl,
I have dreamt of becoming
a model while my parents
wanted me to choose the
field of medicine. Now that
I’m pursuing my medical ca-
reer, I found it the most ap-
propriate time to channel
my passion and waltz
around in this glamorous
world that I have always
been fascinated with. This
journey wouldn’t have been
possible without the support
of my mentor Abhimanyu
Singh Tomar sir from Style
Skool, who instilled in me
the confidence and courage
to enter this completely
new realm safely.
What was the biggest rookie
mistake you made when just
starting out?
This 5g internet world
throws an end number
of opportunities at you
but not conditioning
my brain to actually
scout for the best op-
portunities set me
back by a year or two.
What has been the
most memorable or
rewarding moment
in your career?
The most reward-
ing moment for me
has always been
and always will be
“That one perfect
shot”. Nothing sat-
isfies more than
that one shot that
pleases my young-
er self that was al-
ways eager to get
clicked.
