2. Initial Reaction
From practise, I think I have gotten quite good at Photoshop. Using this skill I
will be able to make a good cover as I plan on making the photography
dominate the page. It is important to make it look good as the cover is what
entices people to buy the magazine, and so this is a very important area. I
would only make a magazine about things I have knowledge in, such as music,
films, TV or games. The magazine will be better quality if it’s something I
enjoy as well as something I enjoy. I think making the double page spread will
be more difficult as it will need a lot of information as well as a large, good
quality photo. It could be surprisingly difficult to find a font that’s right for my
magazine, there will be very few that actually work with the photo, for
example if I’m doing a rock magazine, the font has to be quite tough and loud,
quite in your face, whereas a pop magazine would have a fancier font which is
softer, maybe a smaller size. The font is a part that seems like it wouldn’t
matter however can make a cover what it is.
6. Mood Board Analysis
A common repetition in my mood board is dark colours. It may be colourful
but it is always dark. The majority of colours are blacks, reds, and purples. The
majority of clothing that the artists wear as well is mostly black. This will
influence my final product as it gives me an idea of the colour scheme if my
magazine is associated with these artists. My mood board also gives me an
idea of the styles of guitar they use, as photos from them performing have
similar styles of guitar. If I was to add some guitar photography I would add
some using guitars of that style as it’s the type that the guitarists would use
themselves. The mood board also shows the type of show they put on. This is
useful as live shots can be good for the double page spread, as well as using
some styles that they did live, such as fire or confetti.
7. Schedule
WEEK OVERALL PLAN SPECIFIC TASKS
1 Research, Initial Response,
Audience Research
Complete the PowerPoints on these sections.
One week is enough to complete in detail.
The research is extremely important as it
gives me a feel of what magazines tend to
look like, and the initial plan is important as it
gives me an idea of what I want to do.
2 Production Experiments,
Proposal, Planning
I would start by experimenting with different
Photoshop styles and see what looks good.
Not every style would work with my type of
magazine so I would figure out what does. I
will also need to plan my final cover in detail.
3 Production Start with taking photos that are useable for
my cover and DPS. This could take two days
due to the time it takes to get the right
photo.
4 Production It will take most of the time to edit the
pictures on Photoshop, and so this will take
most of the production time, before laying
everything out on the pages
5 Evaluation Will talk in detail about everything I have
done using photos as well as just describing
everything
