FMP idea?
A shortfilmabout someone whohatestheir
neighbourscreatingadarkcomedy
Why have youdecidedtomake it? I have ideasthatI coulddo for my piece thatI’ve
neverdone bothforfilmingandinpost before
and thisimage Ihave in my head allowsme todo
all of these thingswhile stillcreatingacompelling
story. As well asthis,it’sone of my favourite
genres.Ilike horrorand dark comedies.Hopefully
I can make somethingthathasaspectsof both.
Finally,inmyheadIhave had a lot of ideasfor
differentshotsthatI couldputin the film. Isince
have come up withthisideawhichwill allow me
to do all these shots.Myideais heavilybased
aroundcinematographyoverstory,butthis
projecthas allowedme toconcentrate onboth.
What aboutyour projectmakesitimportantto
you?
Thisis myfinal projectsoI reallyneedtomake
thisone count.It is byfar the mostimportantfilm
I have evermade and so it’simportantto me. I’ve
neverplannedsomethinginsuchmeticulous
detail asI am for thisproject,sothe more I doon
it,the more importantitfeels.ThisiswhatIwill
leave collegewith,Iwanttomake it as goodas I
possiblycan.

End of the F*ckingWorld. – The entire style of
the show is an influence.The waytheycreate
somethingthat’ssoseriousyethasthe burstsof
comedy isinspiringandsomethingIwantto do
myself.
Scenesfromthe Office –how usingnosoundand
justusingthe actor’s emotionto show whathas
happened.
Pan’sLabyrinthtransitions –usingobjectsinthe
foregroundtochange scenesasthe camerapans
FilmPosters – researchthose fromfilmsof a
similargenre,seeingsimilaritiesanddifferences
betweenthem
Life isStrange music– Indie acousticstyle would
workwithmy type of project.
Edgar Wright – His unique camerastyle is
somethingIwantto try. The classicquick
montage style issomethingthat’sbeendone by
countlessstudents,howeverIwantto tryit ina

storyrather than justusingitto show the making
of a cup of tea.
What effectdoyouwant to have onyour
audience whentheysee yourproject?
I wantthemto come awayfeelingwowedby
whattheywatch. I wantto add some comedyin
there to lightenthe moodsotheyshouldn’tcome
away feelingtoodepressed. Inreality,Ijustwant
people tocome awayhavingenjoyedwhatthey
justwatched. The whole pointof filmisto
entertainpeople,andthat’smygoal.Leaving
people bored ispossiblythe worstthingIcould
do.
Describe the tone/mood/style of yourproject
[whichproductiontechniques/characteristicsare
youemploying?]
For a lot of it I wantto create tensionandkeep
people onthe edge.Thiswill be done mostlyby
my use of sound.Using musicor nomusiccan
make people thinksomethingisgoingtohappen,
as well asothersoundeffectslike creaking
floorboards.Everynow andthenthough,Iwant
to breakthe tensionwithsome comedy. Most
studentfilmswillbe serious,so Iwant mine to
standout. Comedyisdifficultatthislevel and
hard to do,so if I do it well,thenmyfilmcan
standout and be differentfromthe rest.
Why have youdecidedtomake yourprojectin
thisstyle?
Thisis the style Iwork withbest,where alotof
the work isdone inpost. Of course, I will have a
lotto do for filmingbutinpostmore will be done
than inthe average shortfilm. EditingiswhatI
enjoytodo, sothere will be plentyof itwhichwill
be a massive partinmakingmyfinal project
good.
