5. Mood Board Analysis
Is there any repetition in the images you have collected? (Repeated colours/images styles/fonts/tone/mood)
In the front cover images, there is some repetition of how the artist has been positioned. It depends on the audience of the magazine, because
the colour scheme will clearly be different so it can target each audience. Some of the colours that have been used are, different shades of
blues, whites, greys, yellows, gold's and different shades of browns. The connotations of different shades of blues are trust or peace. It can
also suggest loyalty. The connotations of the colour white is pure and perfection. Grey is the colour of compromise – being neither black or
white. Yellow is the colour of the mind and brainpower. It connotes to being cheerful. Gold is the colour success and achievement. This is
probably why most people use these colours of the front cover. The friendliest colour is brown. A very down to earth colour. This shows, that
the artist may be down to earth and they are showing it through the colours. All these colours show the true identity of the artists. This works
along with the colour scheme. For example, the Kanye West front cover on my mood board, has used different shades of blue for the
background and used a white for the feature headline near his head. This all shows the coolness and perfection about the artist. The rest of
sub headings are in black, yellow and a darker blue. This shows the secretive part of the gossip as it won’t let on about it all on the front cover.
On the double page spread images, there is not much that repeats itself. They are different from each other, like the artist image isn’t in the
same position, depending on the artist and then the text is all around it. Finally, the portfolio’s, there is repetition in the how it is set out but
depending on the type of photography, it also depends on the colours of the images. In the images I have on my mood board, the colours are
very natural. This is to show the real image in its true self.
How will your mood board influence your final product?
For my magazine cover, I will think about the colour schemes they have used and their audience and see if it fits with mine. Also, the kind of
position the artist is in so I know how to position my artist. I have to think about my audience and what kind of colours, image styles, fonts,
tone and mood they will like. On some of the front covers, they have used stand out text and a font that links in. Some of them, show the
importance of the artist more and others show the importance of the mast head. They have even used bold fonts and size for the sub
headings. Next, is my double page spread, the colour scheme will follow through from the front cover so it links in with the artist. Again, it was
helpful to see what type of position the artist is in on the double page spread so then I knew what position to put my model in from the photo
shoot to then go to edit. I have also, put some images of photography portfolios, from those images, I can use the type of style the images
have been put in and if they have been edited or not.
6. Informal Proposal
Current Idea
Type of products
you would make:
Magazine Front Cover - called ‘INSPIRE’
Double Page Spread – called ‘Have you heard of Rachel-Marie?’
Audio Interview
Photography Portfolio – called ‘Wilderness by Sim K’
Concept: Firstly, I will be doing a front cover, this will have an image of Rachel. I’m using Rachel as she is an upcoming
female artist for her project. It fits perfectly for my music magazine. I will do some research on what the gossip is
in the music industry, so then my magazine is in current trends. My double page spread, will be an interview
article. I will have 10 questions prepared from research, and get answers. This also, fits in with my audio
interview, as I will be asking the same questions but have different responses so my audience is not reading or
hearing the same thing. Finally, my photography portfolio, will be edited images from the photo shoot and put
into a slideshow portfolio.
What you will need
to make them:
For this project, I will using a computer for all my power points and production work, the studio for the photo
shoot, a DR 05 TASCAM recorder for the audio interview and pen and paper for the written questions.
Audience: My project will be for a 16+ female audience that are interested in a folk and soft pop genre. The social status is
A-E, I have made sure I have different types of products so then it appeals to different kinds of audiences. E.g. the
audio interview will be liked by girls who are interested in local musicians. The actual magazine for those who like
to read about their favourite musicians. Also, the portfolio is for those who are interested in photography more
than reading. For the psychographic of my products will be achiever/emulator because they like to focus on
individuality and have approval of their peers. The geodemographic is national because I produced a magazine for
any audience to read about musicians and current trends.
7. Choices
Discounted ideas Reasons for not choosing this project
Merchandise I had some ideas, which were CD cases, posters, magazine cover
and spread and album cover. However I didn’t choose it because
the ideas were quite simple and vague. Another reason that I didn’t
choose this idea was I would have to do all this work on Photo
Shop. This meant I couldn’t carry on working at home because I
don’t have the software to do the work.
Themed Photography Portfolio For this idea, I had already done this before so I didn’t think it
would be good to do again. Another reason I didn’t want to do this
idea was I wouldn’t have enough people to actually take photos of.
Also, last time when I had done a portfolio, I only had one person
and it didn’t really go the way I wanted it to. Again, for this project,
I wouldn’t be able to go home and do some of the work because it
would be all editing and I don’t have Photo Shop at home.
Furthermore, another reason is I have used this idea and done it
within another idea.
