This document is a skills audit completed by Emel Combey-Yildiz. It summarizes the digital technology, post-production, research and planning, and creativity skills Emel acquired and used to create a film production for an AS level project. Emel used a camera, tripod, and Photoshop for the production. Final Cut and GarageBand were used for post-production. Research included analyzing horror films and applying conventions to the project. Storyboards and animatics helped with planning. For the A2 project, Emel plans to further develop these skills by experimenting with different equipment, learning new software, analyzing music videos, and applying conventions while adding a unique twist.

The use of the camera and
tripod allowed us to create the
product with a more
professional feel. Using
Photoshop also let us create a
more realistic feel to the
product and let us experiment
with logos, posters and other
things that would be used for
production.
Using better and different
cameras will allow use to play
around with different lightings
and focusing techniques. We
can use all of our knowledge
and skills we learn from As and
apply them to A2 and expand
on them.
Post production

These speeded up some of the
processes of production and
allowed us to get a more
professional feel the ability to
get un copy righted music and
sound effects also let us make
the most and fully complete our
final product
I will attempt to discover even
more software and applications
to add more to the final product
also now that I have worked
with and had a good idea of
what to do with it.

2. Research and Planning

preparing to film your
sequence?
- How did your planning
help the smooth
progression of your film?
With the research I used a few
things to help with inspiration
for the final product I completed
tasks such as the history of
horror and also analyzed a
number of horror films such as
insidious breaking it down. For
planning the use of storyboards
and animatic helped to
separate it and make our ideas
visual.
We were able to take ideas and
conventions of the films we had
analyzed and apply them to our
own film. The use of
storyboards and animatic
helped use get a clear view and
kept the process more
organized and simpler.
The way we analyzed will be
helpful when we come to
analyze the music videos also
the different ways they were
created such as shots; sounds
and angles can be used as
inspiration for our own video.
Using conventions of real

- Did you take any
inspiration from the
conventions found from
your research?
I analyzed insidious as a main
inspiration but also looked a
thrillers such as taken both from
the same kind of genre but
taking different ends of the
spectrum comparing horror and
thriller both films where modern
but I also looked at other horror
films from other times when
researching the history of the
genre and I used some of the
conventions in my own film.
The films had a large
contribution as we used
elements of the films it self as
well as the shots and angles
and tried to recreate similar
things in out own particularly
with the shots.
I will most likely use more
examples for music videos and
get a wide range of ideas from
my chosen genre and get an
understanding of the
conventions used in the
particular with that genre
similarly what I did with my AS
product film
Creativity
- Were our ideas for your
portfolio imaginative and unique
or did you adhere to
conventions?
We did stay very close to the
conventions of the genre as we
didn’t want to stray to far and
lose it all together but we did
also try to put out own twist on
things with particular shots
Knowing the conventions of
horror already really helped to
create our film. Such as
shadows and dark areas and
ghosts and the devil

pick them out in my music video
