Detailed video analysis
Lilly Wood & The Prick and Robin Schulz - Prayer in C (Robin Schulz
Remix)
The video starts off with a shot zooming in onto a girl sat in front of a mirror
the shots begin to change with the beat of the song getting closer and closer
towards the girls face in different ways. This makes the audience think that
this particular girl in important and key to the narrative of the music video. The
shots switch between a few narratives that some how all fit together during
the video we see this in the shot of the bikes coming towards the camera with
painted faces which is a key point of the music video that is revealed and
carries on throughout the song. In the next shot we see the girl getting this
same style getting painted on her face and we know that this is the key theme
for this particular video.
The number of shots are quite large as this is a fast beat song and the shots
tend to follow the beats there are a mixture of shots from extreme close ups to
establishing shots throughout this whole video showing variety, Having the
shots represent the beats is actually following the conventions from this
particular genre and is quite commonly found not to have longer shots that are
dragged out that you might typically find in slower songs.
The key theme in this video is the Spanish festival ‘Day of the dead’ and the
use of sugar skulls is placed though out the story, it also follows a bunch of
young adult characters. To me this idea of young people and the ‘day of the
dead’ is deliberate in the fact that it is to show that they are living there life to
the fullest and that even when dead theoretically they are still living the
exciting and fun lives they did in the younger years and living each moment as
if it was there last explain there slightly reckless behaviour involving partying,
alcohol, bikes and cars.
The songs lyrics speak about and insinuate forgiveness, living and not letting
things holding you back from what you want to do, the words say ‘ I’m not
wasting no more time’ this is represented in the shots and the narrative of the
story this is more of an illustrated video and sticks to that particular theory.
The camera is often in slow motion this again allows the audience to the see
each shot in its entirety and really does capture each moment, linking again to
the ideas of living each moment to the fullest and like it was your last. Some
shots are normal but some how still seem to be much more relaxed and un-noticeable.
The colour scheme for this video is very simple and the use of natural lighting
is important the idea of this tranquillity and happiness is shown in the sun and
how it is shown throughout the video. The only real amount of bright colours
that are used are the Spanish festival sugar skulls which are already known

for being bright and colourful this being the only really bright colours used
makes them stand out when they are being placed all the way round the
location and to make the young characters stand out from anyone else.
