1. Task 4:
How did you use new media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?
Throughout the Research & Planning stages we used a mixture of websites/online applications and
software;
Slide Share -
This website helped us to share each other our
research and planning to be able to show on our
journals but also with each other. It also allowed us to
gain secondary research from different sources, such
as, the photography tips.
Prezi -
Prezi was helpful to present the research in a different
and interesting way; such as my own genre and
magazine research.
YouTube -
YouTube further helps us to research to the past films,
by finding similar teaser trailer within the same genre
(thriller). This also allowed us to see students past
work and comments on this which helped us to learn
how to use new techniques in our work.
Box Office Mojo -
Box Office Mojo was useful when finding statistical
secondary research, such as the film’s audiences
various age ranges and demographics. This helped me
to find out the target audiences for the films that we
looked at as they are within the same genre (thriller)
and therefore to help find our target audience.
2. Throughout the Production & Evaluation stages we used, websites/online applications, software and
computer equipment/devices;
Pearl & Dean -
Similarly to using Box Office Mojo’s website this was helpful
when finding statistical secondary research, such as the
film’s audiences various age ranges and demographics. This
helped me to find out the target audiences for the films
that we looked at as they are within the same genre
(thriller) and therefore to help find our target audience.
Survey Monkey -
Survey Monkey was useful to collects primary
research for our target audience, as it allows you to
make an online survey that I asked questions to see
what are target audience expect from a film in the
thriller genre. I then shared this on my social media to
gain a range of different answers.
YouTube -
YouTube helped in the production and evaluation, in
which allowed us to upload both of our rough and
final cut of the teaser trailer. This allowed us to gain
and share feedback with other students.
Voice Memos -
We used voice memos, on the iPad to record the
dialogue for the Animatic Storyboard to help research
how we were going to have to insert dialogue in some
scenes and help to further plan this for the final cut.
Sound Cloud -
We used Sound Cloud to upload the voice clips in
order to get them on to the Animatic Storyboard.
Also, this helped with sound research.
3. We also used this to make the mist on the poster, we
followed a online tutoril to help us to be able to enhance this and learn how to improve our knowledge/skills
in making this appear to look realistic. This was by using the magic tool to select the background, then change
the ocpacity, change the shadow, scroll over these areas and then use the black paint tool with a lower
opacity to add more dimension.
Canon 80D Camera -
This DSLR camera is what we used to film our teaser
trailer, and take the photos for our poster/magazine
cover. Therefore providing high quality shots and
photographs for our products.
Final Cut Pro X -
This was the main program that we used to
edit/create footage for our teaser trailer, final and
rough cut but also the animatic storyboard. We used
the different tools within this to enhance these clips.
For example the blade tool to make a clip shorter or
change the tone of the voice to disguise for the
antagonist when he was on the phone.
Adobe Photoshop -
Was extremely helpful as it was one of the main
programs used for creating/editing our poster,
magazine cover and the company ident. For example,
we were able to create different backgrounds and get
rid of imperfections by using the magic tool to cut out
what we didn't like or want in the image/poster.
Denoiser -
A system that is also found within Final Cut Pro X is the
Denoiser that we used in our final cut to further disguise for
the antagonist when he was on the phone and further get rid
of any of the background sound.
4. How did this Technology help to overcome problems and find
creative solutions?
These technologies allowed me to come up with creative solutions to overcome problems when trying to
find research and when trying to plan/share our work/findings with each other.
Furthermore, I found that Illustrator was the most challenging program to use, as I had never used it before
and therefore had no previous experience. Moreover, by further using Final Cut Pro X and Photoshop it
allowed to further my skills. I further learned how to store our research on OneDrive and Google Drive, to
help store websites, platforms and documents online.
Free Sound.org -
Similarly, another website that we used to find ambient
non-diegetic soundtrack for the teaser trailer, and to
find royalty free sound clips.
GarageBand -
This was helpful as we used this to experiment and create
an ambient non-diegetic soundtrack for the teaser trailer.
Adobe illustrator -
Was extremely useful as it was the other main
programs used for creating/editing our poster, and
magazine cover. In which we combined all the images
that we made in Photoshop.
As I have not used this before I used online tutorials
to help me create different effects. For example, how
to layer the different texts and images in orders.
